IOTA issue ? PJ2MI
Loren McCullough - WA3WZR
Hi Andrew. Steve's answer is essentially correct. The software we use does a lot to identify who may be eligible for an IOTA award, but there is so much incorrect information out there that we cannot just go with what is on the ADIF record for the QSO. The verification process for the IOTA awards has always been a manual process just to make sure the award has been earned. You would not believe how many entries we have in our spreadsheet to indicate incorrect data, for example, someone indicating on QRZ or eQSL that they are on an island when they are on the mainland no where near the coast. Sometimes it is just an error on the part of the log entry (for example a USA callsign indicating an Oceania island). The software does weed out a lot of those errors, but we have new ones all the time that have to be checked. Another example is 1x1 calls that are reused and they are only valid on an IOTA for specific dates. (Side note, I have had argues with several members over why some of their entries are rejected, one was claiming 170 IOTAs when in reality we could only verify 120 and he argued that the EPC PSK checker accepted all of them as valid so why wouldn't we - the EPC software (UltimateAAC) doesn't validate, it just sees an entry in IOTA).
In the case of PJ2MI, he is one of several known callsigns that are valid for both SA-006 and SA-099, depending on the dates. That "manual credit to be applied" is a note for me to just verify the dates are within the correct time frame and for the correct IOTA. Having something like that being automated is a wish list item for the future. This will all be handled when you eventually are eligible to submit for IOTA.
One note on your log. I just took a look at the IOTA entries the award checker has identified. They all look correct, except for N4NUI. Your N4NUI QSO is indicating IOTA NA-006 (Nunavut), but that is in Canada and would only be valid with a VE8 or VY0 prefix. This is a known error that is showing up in many logs. Not sure where that incorrect information is coming from. This should be automatically rejected by the software and indicated on your Award Progress Checker page with a Red entry.
Hope this helps.

Our IOTA guru is Loren W3WZR, hopefully he will chime in with more insight than I possess on IOTA'

Jose PJ2MI had many PSK31 QSOs years ago, since we were both beta testing early PSK31 software. What does "manual credit to be applied" mean ? I am assuming I need to check the RSGB's IOTA since for their records of this island being recognized by IOTA ? Maybe I simply need to record it as SA-006 ?

I'm not the expert on this, but I'll give you a quick answer. I'm hoping a more rigorous answer is provided by the members of the team that actually process this.
Quick answer: I think the manual process referred to here is inside the club's award processing team--I don't think it refers to anything you have to do. The software currently does a lot of checking of IOTA claims, because there is so much false information out there (e.g., errors on QRZ listings). When there are known changes (such as the PJ2 transition from SA-006 to SA-099 in 2010), this may just be a note for an internal manual review. There won't be a problem with Jose--he's a known PSKer, and was my 106th PSK QSO back in Jan 2001--so please just be patient.
Back story: (Note to all the previous members--you can ignore this paragraph as you've all heard it many times.) The club's software (e.g., the endorsement/award checker) is being held together with (virtual) duct tape and baling wire. We used to have a robust system built on GoogleSheets. But Google chose to deprecate the development language we used a few years ago. Our one (at the time) software developer didn't have the time to completely rewrite the system, and effectively abandoned it. A new management team volunteered to take control, but only one of us is a software developer, and he has a full-time job, a family, and is taking classes towards a Master's degree. As a result, we are limping along using the parts of the old system that still work, and implementing manual processes to replace those that don't work. We have the beginnings of a new contest scorer, but there's also a gaggle of volunteers that are keeping the club running manually. You'll run into those over time, but we are trying to make progress that can lead to a new automated system.
