Soapbox Anyone?

One typical contest aspect that has been missing from our 070 contests is SOAPBOX. So here's your chance. Post your 2018 PSK Fest stories and experiences here. Anything from "had fun" to "it was so cold the iguanas froze, fell out of the palm trees, and pulled down my homebrew 16 mile long receive-only beverage antenna." Let's hear how it was for you!

Well, I’m not a contester… not in the competitive manner anyhow, but I did enjoy PSKFest. I was only able to operate hit-and-miss, but managed to get 30+ QSOs, which helped my WTW, LONP, and Grids totals.
40 meters was lousy at the start, but finally settled and because usable later on. 80 was pretty good from the start – at least I was working the stations I could hear. Soapbox Comments: Made a lot of contacts on 80 and 40. Some strange looking signals on the waterfall from time to time. 7.040 is usually good for a couple of DX stations but it was full of RTTY. I would call CQ and sometimes would get someone send their call sign one time but often it was scrambled. Me thinks you should send your call at least twice. Also, I know what my call is, if you call me, send my call one time and send your call two or three times. A lot of fun, wish the propagation had been better but the waterfall got a good workout. I really enjoy the PODXS 070 Club!

Well I didn't get on until 13:59, but I had a blast. Lots and lots of PSK31 on the waterfall - more than I've seen in the last 6 months I think - which was great to see. Managed to grab Qs on 80m, 40m, 20m, and even 3 on 15m. 40m was the workhorse here in central Florida with 20m being good in the afternoon. And no iguanas fell out of the palm trees at our house - hi hi! Thanks to all who worked me. I hope you had as much fun as I did.

Another great 070 club contest!!!
I managed to operate much more than I intended. 80 meters was great Friday evening, and 40 was ok. Got on Saturday morning around 7AM local and worked some on 40. Saturday 20M was booming. Managed to work west coast, east coast, PR, Canada, even had some you don't see often. Couple of Idaho, Wash, Oregon, WY. Only thing north of me was one KS station none of the Dakotas, Neb, Ok. Saturday on 20 proved that the lack of propagation is caused by the scarcity of people on the bands. Had a blast, and looking forward to the next one, which is Valentines Sprint, I think. -- Jim, K5SP #483 Member Services Director |

I love the contest scorer program...Nice analysis of the contest. I also noticed that I forgot to weed out the k1KSC, Kennedy space center QSO I grabbed during the contest and I fat fingered a state entry..sigh..But it was fun time on coooooold winter nite
One thing I need to figure out how to to is some sort of dupe checking using HRD..even though I used a seperate log and database for the contest it still recongnized QSO's from an old log somewhere and flagged them as worked..Any clues?? Brian K9WIS |

Soapbox Comments: I had a ball!! First time for me was last year and I did okay. Don’t remember what the band condx were like back then (I slept since then) but condx were very good this year. As stated earlier 40 started out pretty lousy but picked up. 20 was great and then later 40 and 80 were both good. Sunday was pretty rough on 80 meters because of all the RTTY signals but still managed to pick quite a few out. Thanks to everyone for all the fine contacts during the contest. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m not a contester by any means (at least not seriously or for any competition), I just wanted to get as many as I could to bolster up my WTW, 070, LONP contacts. I may have even slipped in a SD/ND contact toward that endorsement.
