Firecracker Sprint

Well, the firecracker sprint is over. I don't know about y'all, but I had fun, and learned a lot. Now, I'm flipping a coin to see whether or not I should turn in my log. I only got 5 QSO's and one of those was the K2K special event station.

Turn it in…

I managed 6 Q’s for the contest.  Plus, I would think by turning in your log you’ll be confirming your contacts with the other stations in the contest.

It was fun.  I only had about 2.5 hours in the chair for this one.  Condix was horrible this afternoon but it was a hoot working W3HF at the tail end of the contest.

Thanks PODXS guys for putting on the show.  See you all at the next go-around!

Jon -

Actually, you have a couple of errors. One is that KE4JB and AK4MK are not listed with their states in the right field.

The other (more significant) one is that you didn't properly select the starting time for your six hours. The scorer thinks you chose 0100z. That means that your first four QSOs are not counted. You need to select 2300z as your start time.

Fix both of those errors and re-upload. It's good to upload even if you didn't "place." Part of it is maximizing the matches in the scoring. But another part is showing the interest in the contest. And the third part is that you earn an 070 "attaboy" for participating and uploading.

FWIW, I will upload my 3 QSOs some time this week. We are typically away for the contest's "prime time" on Saturday evening, so I was only on after 0155z last night.

P.S. I saw fragments of your call last night, but not enough to work you. I hope we can do so soon--I need you for LONP!

I also have a couple errors when I upload my log, and I'm not sure what is going on, anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks,

For us "mortals" to make a suggestion, you have to check the box to "allow anyone to see your log." You apparently didn't check that, so your callsign (on the results page) isn't a link to your log. Most (but not all) of the other entries are links.

If you don't check that, then only the club management can see.

Steve,
Thanks for the info and help.  This us the first time I've submitted a log.  I'll get my errors corrected land re-uploaded later this evening.

Sorry, we had company for dinner so I didn't get a chance to look until now.

The issue is that you operated for more than six hours--you started at 2000z and ended at 0411z. That's over eight hours. You need to pick the best six-contiguous hours. You can either do the analysis yourself, or let the checker decide for you. Just upload multiple times selecting different start times: 2000z, 2200z, and 2300z. (Since you had no QSOs during the 2100z hour, that wouldn't be a good starting time.) Then do one final upload with the version that scores the best.

My guess (without doing the math) is that 2200z will be best. You only have one QSO during the 0400z hour, so that's not likely to be worth more than the QSOs you will lose for skipping the 2200z hour. And you only had five QSOs in the 2000z hour--starting at 2000z means you lose the 11 QSOs during the 0300z hour. The "catch" might be the multipliers, as I didn't look at that.

No worries, we have a week to upload the logs after all.

I seem to have been doing the math wrong in my head, thinking I only worked 6 hours....  My best score is based starting at 2200.

Again, many thanks!

Jon,

Turn it in for sure.
I have actually won the QRP division in two separate QSO Parties with only 1 contact each.
You just don't know how far you can move up the food chain when condx are less than optimal.

I once sent in a log for 50 QSO's in the arrl dx fone contest..I was just searching for all time new ones but I could send in a log with just a click of the mouse in the logging program. Turns out I was the only QRP fone entry in the Central Division..That plaque sure looks nice on the wall in the shack. those days are gone..now qrp fone entries have qso counts in the hundreds..sigh
