I am usually checking 14.070 around 2000 GMT mostly every day, so if you need a contact send me an email.

Hi Karl,

I am aware of POTA and have already done a couple of activations.  I will find out who did the activation and ask them what they took with them and how they managed it.

Milt,
I would like to run higher power, but I can seem to get the xyl interested in carrying the 105AH deep cycle battery, hi hi.  We will have to carry everything for the day, so I am looking at keeping it as light as possible.

I will let the group know when and if this is going to happen.

I'm also working on finishing my 365 award.

I usually check 7.070  each day at 0000Z for a few minutes.

If I make a contact, I'm good for that day.
If I don't make a contact then, I still have the rest of the day to find one.

I'll keep an eye out for you other "hunters".

Mike N6STA,
Great Idea .  Lots of useful tips on Youtube.  I don't own a 7300 but have been looking a them for some time.  I have a IC-7200 and struggled to get everything working the way I wanted.  Hints:  Load the Icom USB driver before you plug the USB cable into the computer.  Know which version of Windows you have, 64 or 32 bit.  Check the versions of firmware that on your rig to see if you need to update.  It might have the latest versions.  Plug your USB cable into the main USB hub on your computer, most likely the one on your computer motherboard.  I struggled two days trying to FLDIGI to work.  I read a post and moved my USB cable from the front of my computer to the back where the motherboard USB connector is located and everything worked fine.  Consider using a more user friendly rig control software.  A few have great visual interfaces and allow you to control many rig functions, volume, RF gain, filters, band selections and more.  A few allow you to store frequency, filter settings and mode for all your favorites.  Enjoy your new rig. Congrats.

Agreed. I did a look-see and came up empty also.
Q?...anyway you could bring more than 5 watts with you?
I've been there, and it's a nice place.

As far as I know, that grid has never been activated on PSK31. I know it's been activated on 6m (for the ARRL Fred Fish Memorial Award), and numerous other times for IOTA purposes.

But PSK31 I think would be new.

Do any 070 members know of an activation of this grid, EL84.  The xyl is looking a trips and is thinking of taking the ferry from Key West to the fort.  I was thinking of taking my FT817nd, fishing pole antenna, and tablet and trying to work some stations from that grid.

That would also be a valid POTA reference: K-0023 - https://pota.us/#/parks/K-0023

Based on the POTA park stats page, it has been activated on SSB once, but never in any digital mode. So, if you are a POTA member, I would encourage you to submit your log. Advertising on the POTA spotter page would probably also give you a lot more traffic.

As propagation conditions have improved, we are showing some good gains in member Endorsements. Our regular contests and Endorsement Daze have helped also. Delays in the Endorsement Checker mean that I will be reporting UNOFFICIAL results pending official results.

LONP - To qualify for LONP, 100 QSOs with fellow members are required.
In 2020, 15 members were officially recognized:

366 – The 366 Award requires a QSO on each of the calendar days of the year, a large
B-I-C commitment. Only 52 members have earned this. Accomplishing this during 2020 were:

#1609             KC4OBB

#2328             WB8YXF

#2347             K4ARE

#1699   SA7BXU   (10/30)

#1769   R6KEE   (12/15)

360/366 – Needing from 2 to 5 dates:

#919   KC4TIE     (5/15, 6/2, 7/3, 9/12)

#404   WA7HDZ        (8/7, 8/16, 8/19)

24/7 – Due to a unique strategy formed by Alan, KA5VZG, several among us either achieved or made great progress toward the 24/7 Award. The 24/7 Award requires making a QSO for every hour slot on every day of the week, 168 slots total. Alan proposed a strategy with 2 hour blocks, over a 3 week period. With the enthusiastic support of Bob, KK6KMU, Bob, K4VBM and several others, 4 members qualified with all 168 slots: Alan, KA5VZG, Bob, K4VBN, Don, KC4OBB and David, KR4U. Getting within easier reach were Stan, W9SMR with 166 and Bob, KK6KMU with 160 slots. Those were bleary eyed but very rewarding middle of the night hours.

WTW – Work The World - One of our toughest Endorsements. It requires 2246 specific call sign suffix letters to spell out Country names around the world. Only 42 members have earned this challenging award. Only Lee, N5SLY completed in 2020. Two active members have completed US and are pending completion of AF for the entire WTW series.

#2252   RN3Z  needs 8-N

#354   W7PAQ  needs 13-I and 20-N

TRI-WARC  - As Propagation continues to improve, the 070 Club offers the "TRI-WARC" pennant. Work three different stations on each of the WARC bands (30M, 17M and 12M). Follow that with the 12/12M, 17/17M and 30/30M awards.

Congratulations to all!

Many more Endorsements were earned, far too many to list. I apologize for any errors and if I missed your efforts.

Keep up the good work!

Stan

I'm operating from southern Maryland by the Chesapeake Bay.  That's Eastern time zone.  I work mostly 20 and 40. Can do 80 but don't have a great antenna for that.  My G5RV is North-South at about 70'.  My dipoles (10,20, and 40) are East-West. They're just inverted vees supported with a 33' camo pole.

I'm not sure what to say about gray line.  Sunset is around 5 PM or 2200Z.  I usually can make 20 meter contacts during the day and get 40's as evening comes on.  I'll be spending as much time as I need to get these contacts this month.

Appreciate the concern and help.  Every day until the 22nd this month, I'll be trying.

Dave,
Can you tell us more about your operating availability?
Some details pls? Times, bands, gray line, etc?
There's a number of us old, (truly, a state of mind), crusty guys hanging around that are as equally pedantic about getting in your log as you are about having us there, and, on the day & time that's needed.
And, I'm thinking that there's a lot of others needing schedules for band, time & day also.

I'm needing  all the days up to Jan 22nd. That's every day from now until 22 then the 26th.  Feb 15th, Jun 3, 25, 26 and July 31.  That's all for the endorsement. Thanks to all for the support and replies.  I'm on 40 and 20 trying and getting nothing.  Seeing a few stations on psk31 now but no luck yet.  It will happen I'm sure.
