Re: Wanted list for grids ?

Stephen Melachrinos

There are 488 grids that touch the lower 48 states. The definitive list is for the Fred Fish Memorial Award, which ARRL gives to 6m operators for working them all.

070 chose to skip 52 of those grids, because almost all of the grid is either wet (i.e., water) or in Canada or Mexico. EL28 is one of them. The full list is on the 070 Membership Endorsements page.

Hi Steve,

I did not see EL28 on your list.  I plan on activating in Jan 2018 as we are staying in Freeport, TX for a week.

As my grandkids would say "Totally Awesome!" Thank you so much Steve.  Gives this old grid chaser some hope that it isn't hopeless....well, except for those 11.  But maybe someone or several will do GridXpeditionsnow that the list is out. They would be guarenteed a pileup!

As to the xlsx file, I'm still running Office 2000 so couldn't open it.  But it opened fine in OpenOffice, then saved it as an Excel 97 file.  All good here!

Steve, et al :

I just opened it.  Before it there was a file, but no content and I got nothing.  Accessed it via  myyahhoogroups, but have no idea what happened. It opened with open office just fine.

If anyone goes to print this out to have next to rig,  be careful as it prints out to about 10 pages.  Did my want list for grids on Open Office and had same problem. but using the old glue stick & exacto kife method I was able to put it on one page. I know I could probably have used cut & paste, but I'm old school )

Jerry - try the link in the email that was sent out by Yahoo when Steve uploaded the list.

It downloaded fine for me. Keep in mind that it's a newer Excel version with an .xlsX file type, so you'll need to have a new enough version of Excel to read it. Alternately, you could download Microsoft's Excel Viewer.

Y'all be good - thanks for doing this, Steve!

Ok everyone.  Here is the schedule according to the XYL.  DM86 on 8/25 during the day.  DM48 & DM37 on 9/5 during the day.  DM68 on evening of 9/3. DM67 for two evenings 9/6-9/7. DM95 on evening of 9/8.  Gainesville on evening of 9/9.

I have decided since the rig will be in the car to use KC3EF/M for this trip.

Will try to post possible times for the day events, but will probably be in areas with no coverage, but will try to post estimate the night before from the hotel.  If we wander off path to a different grid will try to post also.  If anyone is interested in the entire route let me known and I can e-mail the links to google maps that show the entire trip.

.WOW !  Great job  !!!   This would have taken me days/weeks to process.

As suspected  most of East coast grids (FM/FN)  are somewhat easy to work.

Looking through the list, it seems I have 7 out of all on list worked: DN04/DM74/DM87/DM90/DN43/EN38DM53; However, I know I've missed a 1/2 dozen or so over the years which are probably on the list.

This morning I got all excited over an Eqsl from 2007... checked logs and couldn't find that station which was in EM39 (last one to finish MO) ... turns out it was a SSB  QSO - BAH !

I'm not an expert on "big data manipulation", but I know my way around Excel pretty well. So I took on Jerry and David's challenge, and here are the results.

There are just over 2.2 million QSOs in the database, but that includes non-US stations/grids, and QSOs that don't include grids. Filtering to just QSOs with US stations with grids included and grids within the 436 that count for the 070 award takes the total down to about 598 thousand. I then tallied (not manually!) how many QSOs were with each of those 436 grids. Note that this counts QSOs, not unique callsigns (so there are many duplicates in the count). I also did not do any real quality checking other than that they were valid 4-character grids that matched one of the 436. So if someone had logged me at my home QTH (which is FN20), but put EN20 or DN20 as the grid, it was counted as that errant grid.

- There are eleven grids that have no QSOs at all:

DL88
DM85
DN01
DN02
DN25
DN34
DN52
DN57
DN65
DN75
EN28

- There are thirty other grids with less than ten QSOs each:
