You can swat skeeters, but swatting FT-8 stations is considered "malicious interference".  The FCC wants to open up the bands to all modes which would cause total chaos.  If that happens we might as well all take up knitting !

A few minutes ago I was on 14071 and there was a FT-8 signal.  So went to 40m and there was another FT-8 sinal on 7070.  These things are like roaches , they're all over the place !!!   Need some FT-8 spray. It's bad enough they pretty much killed off 18.100  for PSK31 .

I’m on the WSJT Development list; a spy of sorts.  They’ve been playing with the new DXpedition mode and over the weekend some stations parked on 14.070.  I protested as politely as I could and suggested they avoid the PSK frequencies, as we’re using them and we’re not terribly happy with the intrusion.  I also voice my opinion about what poor practice it was for them to put the 17 meter anchor frequency directly on the PSK frequency.  So far I have not elicited any responses.  Apparently the FT8 crowd doesn’t have the attention span to engage in a discussion/argument!

Open it would be a good marketing tool for the club.

Anything we can do to encourage the use of PSK31 is only for the good.

I think that at this late stage of the game this year it would be best to leave it as it is and make the change in 2019.

If we are going to open it up, and require member numbers we will have to standardize the entry for non members_maybe 0000.

Ahh, but the point is “valid call sign exchange”

Without a proper verification that you got the call correctly, it isn’t worth the radio waves it travelled on.

Hey, y'all - I was just chatting with Bruce Horn of WA7BNM Contest Calendar/contestcalendar.com fame about the ST Patrick's Day contest being a closed, member's only contest.

Why is it closed? Just because it always has been? Would anybody have any objection to opening up the contest to the masses, unwashed or or not?

I'm in favor of the idea, but I'd like to hear any detractor's points of view as well.

I didn't just want to "make it so" without some discussion and input from the members on the matter. Please, let's discuss the pros and cons of making it a public contest.

Personally I would be happy for it to be open or closed>

Open it would be a good marketing tool for the club.

Anything we can do to encourage the use of PSK31 is only for the good.

I think that at this late stage of the game this year it would be best to leave it as it is and make the change in 2019.

If we are going to open it up, and require member numbers we will have to standardize the entry for non members_maybe 0000.

I can recreate cards if you have one that is filled out...I use GIMP to scrub out any written data on the card and create a blank one..Then I can make a template with 4 up on a sheet that you can print on you printer or take to office max.

I remember those solicitations from card printers.  Think they started arriving about 2 weeks after the license and the address had my call on it!  In fact, if memory serves, one of them included 10 "sample cards" all printed up with my call and info!  I think I ordered my 100 from them.  Sure wish I had saved one of those original cards.
