Contest! Contest!

Rick - N7WE

Get ready!  It’s the only 070 contest that includes other PSK modes besides PSK31.  And it is coming next weekend.  Test your software.  Edit your macros.  Tune up your 20m antenna.  The wise contester will use as many PSK variants as possible!  Come one, come all!  Open to members and non-members alike.  Tell your friends!

Check the rules.  Click Here.  Pick your 6 hour block.  Check out last year’s results.  They're here.  Select your category – 3 power levels to choose from.  Plot your strategy!

Logs will be due within one week using the online contest scorer.

Dan Morris - KZ3T

jay — I use PSK Express by N7YG which is a step up from the Digital Engine and gives a lot more info and I also use it to send my data to ACLog very seamlessly —   There are 100 macros available so I have a couple banks of 10 that I use for various PODXS contests and all I have to do is make a slight change to what is required for that particular contest and ready to go!!

Thanks David,

We used the very basic NY7G digital engine with AClog for Winter Field Day, and that worked fine for that event.
Since it has such a seamless tie to AClog for logging, we have used this when operating portable as well... I just didn't know if there was something better.

Welcome Jay. :-)

It’s a lot of personal taste, and depends on what you mean by contesting.  I use FLdigi, but that’s mostly because I’m using a non-Windows system.  I’ve been pretty happy with it, but my needs are pretty minimal; just about anything would make me happy.

I would say use whatever you are comfortable with.  Try a few to find out what they're like.

I use  MixW 3.2 for every day work, but transfer contacts to ACLog.   I use N1MM for CW & SSB and also xfer it to ACLog. It a bit of extra work , but for me it's worth extra work.

BTW, Jeff, N7YG, is a friend and have met with him on several occasions. A nice guy and always interesting to chat with.

A  big welcome Jay !  Glad to have you on board .    Many of us collect grids ... info at club home page. IOt's a lot of fun. There are many upgrades/endorsement stickers to keep one busy; like the WTW  and 24/7 which are a couple of the harder ones.

As one of the new members to the group, thanks for the welcome.
There should be at least 4 other new members rolling in soon as well.  I am part of a small group that does a lot of portable work (every week) and one of our group goals was for all of us to get better in the digital modes - so we started with PSK31.   We saw all the activity for the past 070 contest and thought "that would be fun to participate in!".  There should be 3-4 more members soon as they are racing to complete their 50 and start joining in on the fun.

Looking forward to taking part in some of the 070 contests.

Speaking of... which software do you all find is the best fit for contesting with psk31?

Re: Boring fact

Welcome aboard Jay.  And we will welcome the rest of the bunch as they come onboard.

As to which software is best for contesting....like Jay, my answer would be whatever you normally use.  I don't know of a PSK31 contesting software - something like N1MM+ is for CW, RTTY, and SSB.  Personally, I use HRD and DM780 for my PSK31 work.  It does fine for me in contests.  You can see what people use by going to David's KJ4IZW Contest Scorer and looking at the results.  Click HERE for the last contest results - St. Patrick's Day.  Scroll down to the Logging Programs and it will show you the summary.

The next contest is coming up Saturday April 7!  This is a unique one for the 070 bunch as you can use all 6 PSK variants!  Watch here for posting for more announcements. You'll have fun!

That's good news.  Looks like PSK31  is getting back in the game in spitte of the mode that is forbidden to mention !
