I just subscribed to the 365 Chat and this technologically obsolete guy needs some instruction!  First, how do I tell if anyone is in the chat?  I think I sent a message asking if anyone was there, but not sure.  Second, how do I tell how old the messages are?  I see time stamps (are they local time of the post, all the same time zone, UTC...?) but no dates.  Are the messages deleted after so long?  So as you can see, I'm don't know how to use chat to know when someone is on looking for a 365 contact.  Do you just continously monitor the chat?  Any help greatly appreciated...and have NO FEAR of being too basic for this old fuddy-duddy.  Tnx!

Chimp Chase Winners

stan W9SMR

Congrats to all those hearty souls that braved the weather and propagation and attempted the Chimp Chase challenge to work 5 QSOs from a portable location during the Endorsement Daze #4 event May 22-23, 2021.

It didn’t always work out, but important lessons were learned along the way.

Congrats to the following members who succeeded in the challenge and will receive the coveted Chimp Chase Atta-Boy as a PDF to print for their display:

A note of encouragement to the several I am aware of that made a valiant effort but somehow narrowly missed the 5 QSO threshold: Steve, WB3LGC and Bo, W4GHV. Congrats to all who made the effort.

We will do this again during Endorsement Daze #5 in August. Think PORTABLE!

Please also seriously consider staging a full-on August PSK31 Expedition (APE). Check the APE Tall Tales on the website to see how much fun that can be.

Contact Dave, KB3RAN for details   See: APE - August PSK31 Expeditions

Please let me know if I have missed your success or messed up the data.

Even if you have worked a fellow member before, please answer that CQ 365 call. Let’s make 366 happen for as many as we can.

To see what dates you need, upload your full log and check the "Online Endorsement Checker". In the "In Progress" section, click on "Target" for the 360 category and a list of needed dates will show. If you have a problem seeing that, please just let me know.

In the table below I have shown June and July need dates for only those members needing fewer than 46 days total. These are the folks really getting close. Be sure to look for them. Use the 365 Chat to announce your own needs and hopefully you will punch through and grab those needed dates. As a bonus, focus on the WARC bands if you also want credit for those Endorsements.

Congrats, Harry!

Before I saw your posting, I had checked your log upload and I did notice that you now need only 45 more days to complete your 366 Endorsement.

Wow is right!! That is a great start and we'll be looking for you on June 13 and 14.

Do not give up. Fifty six of our 2,850 members have shown it can be done. So far in 2021, John, KG5OIB; David, VE7BGD; and Mary, KC4TIE have completed the challenge. Congrats to them, also!!

I used to volunteer with the county Emergency Management Agency. The Emergency Operations Center was in the same building as the county courthouse, the county sheriff's department and the county jail. The sheriff kept a bulletin board with photos of the most wanted. Every time I passed by the photos I checked to make sure I was not pictured. laugh2

I was not worried though. The sheriff did a thorough background check on all volunteers before they were given access to the building.

Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't know how the chat works.  I see there are chats on there going back to 2019 so they might stay around forever.  To see who is on the chat, hit the plus sign (+) and you can see who is on the chat.  Think those are local times at our time zone, don't know if they show up in a west coast time zone as 12:33 or 9:33.  You must have posted it correctly because I saw it.

I'm sure there are some great stories out there!  Consider posting yours here
to encourage others. And answer those "CQ - 365" calls.  You can't do 365 all
by yourself!
I used TeamViewer over an iPhone standing in line for a roller coaster at Cedar
Point. I had set up a camera pointing at the rig so I could see what it was
doing (so I could tell if it got stuck). This was also before I had a full rig
control setup so I had to leave it on one band (IIRC, 20m). I also had a
remote power killswitch if things went completely sideways so it didn't get
stuck transmitting.

It can be a bit complicated, but absolutely doable.
