Just getting to DM46.  Will be on in a few minutes.   Not seeing any traces.

Looks like we will be going thru DM65, DM55, DM45, DM46, and either DM47 or DM36 and staying overnight in DM37.  Probably won't hit any of the wanted grids until after 12:00 PM MDT.  I will try to post a more exact time, but depending on the route we take, there may not be good cell coverage.

Missed all you guys !    Just hooked up Signalink USB for the last time before giving up and it worked.  Had a QSO on 40m with N3CAU at 1945 UTC.

Maybe I’ll be able to catch KC3EF/m in a needed grid.

Worked the following stations today from DM63:   N7WE, AK4MK, NN9K, and KK4ZSH on the way to the wildlife refuge.  When we left the refuge fired  up the radio and worked VA7GEM and N2MLP just before leaving the DM63 grid.  Hit very heavy TStorms that were left over from the tropic storm.

We may be changing our route thru NM and AZ on our way to DM46, I will post before we leave Albuquerque.

Yes, Steve is correct, we visited the Very Large Array Radio Telescope.  Really neat to see.  28 antennas covering 13 miles.  When we were out in the antenna field they started repointing the antennas.  It was neat to watch a choregraphed movement of multiple antennas.  The have a big hydraulic crawler that moves the antennas from position to position.  There are 82 miles of rail track for the crawler to move on.  No RF emitters are allowed on the site, had to turn off everything.  This place is in the middle of no where.  It was a 1 ½ hour drive from Albuquerque to the turn off and then another 1 drive to the site.  Nothing around there.  All the employees are bused in from a couple of locations.

I assumed he meant the Very Large Array, based on his route (which includes New Mexico).

Also, all those beautiful antennas would be an appropriate destination for a ham.

OK, I have to finally ask.  I looked up VLA and got Very Large Array, Virginia Library Association, Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts as well as several other references that probably do not apply.

What is this VLA which you reference?

Are you waiting? Are you ready? It's October and it's almost time!

Rick - N7WE

The 2018 GREAT PUMPKIN SPRINT starts Saturday October 13th!

This fun, fantastic 070 contest is PSK31 on 160m only.  The contest window opens at 2000 UTC on the 13th, but YOU get to choose which 6 hour block works best for you and your time zone.  The window closes at 2000 UTC on Sunday October 14th.  4 power categories, ATTA BOY sticker for all participants, top score for each class from each time zone receives a certificate, and highest 070 Club member gets Top Dawg certificate and a Rollo Dog Tag!

This sprint is open to all licensed amateurs with 160m privileges.  So spread the word to your non-member PSK friends.

If you don't have a 160m capable antenna, now it the time to rig something up.  Forget "I don't have enough room for a 160m antenna."  If it will load, it's a go!  I once heard of someone working 160m from an old wire bed-springs!  Best event of the year to work on the Top Band Endorsement.  Only 20 different stations required, yet only 41 member hold this endorsement!  Here's your chance to join that select group and chase the GREAT PUMPKIN - all at the same time.

As always...
I am busy doing non-Ham stuff.
20 Meters is pretty busy right now.
Just hearing nobody close, like the Mobile in DM63.
Italy is pretty good right now.
Have fun all. Still kicking and a little tired of the FT8 bad behavior.
