Yes, far too many SK lately.   Got word of 2 on same day.

Lost one in his 90's who was a WWII survivor from Ukraine. Forced to work for Nazis and at end of war ended up working as translator (5 languages) for U.S. Army.  He had lots of stories, but didn't share them on the air.  Far too many are leaving us...

On one hand I am sympathetic with Kathy's lack of desire to visit that grid but on the other hand I am thinking bribery works wonders. If we all chipped in a dollar and bout Kathy a gift of her choice, do you think this might help her get over her aversion. After all, the climate should be warm and sunny, just like a vacation and not over run with people as it is not in the top ten destinations. Have a good and safe trip.

Portable Operations in Canada

Steve VA3FLF/KM4FLF

The Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) has announced a program for the remainder of the year and beyond promoting portable operations. Canadian Amateurs are encouraged to go portable and collect bonus points by activating POTA, SOTA, Lighthouses of the World, and IOTA.  See the announcement:

 https://www.rac.ca/rac-canadian-portable-operations-challenge-starts-july-1/

I plan on starting some activations and hitting POTA and Lighthouse locations in the coming weeks. I will make an announcement ahead of time here. As usual, I will be QRP digital on my trusty FT817 with a couple of different antenna configurations. Also look for other VE / VA operators working /P.

070 Club - Spokesman Award

stan W9SMR

Two of our members are doing a wonderful job promoting our glorious PODXS 070 Club.

They are doing this by making their QRZ.COM pages into a focused ad for our club.

Check out Dave, NU4N's page for his highlighted 070 Sticker collection.

Then check out Don, KC4OBB's page highlighting his A.P.E. Hunter Award earned in 2019 for working APE Station KC9UR on 3 or more bands.

Both of these pages have solicited inquiries about 070 and probably new members.

I know that our all-time Champion APE Hunter Jeff, W3WMU proudly displays his APE Hunter Awards in the shack. He is the only person to have earned that certificate every year that KC9UR has conducted his APE (2013 to 2020). Maybe he can add a shack photo of them to his QRZ page?

The KC9UR APE this year will be August 20-22. Look for the official announcement soon.

If you also are highlighting and promoting our club, please post that information. If not, consider adding highlights and awards from your PODXS 070 club membership to your QRZ.COM page. Give this club a boost.

73,
Stan

The LAPD has a fleet of the small BMW all electric cars. Like maybe 25 or 30.
They use them for parking enforcement downtown.
What happened to the days of the Cushman 3 wheel scooters?
Maybe 'cause they're not air conditioned, or the ladies don't like helmet's?

Hi Rick,

I found information on the vehicle on the net, it has a 190 mi range.  The inside pictures make is seem luxurious and roomy, not.  Feel sorry for the poor crew members that we assigned to these.  Since the van get about 26mpg and has a 400 or more mile range we probably would have to get a local sheriff to loan us one.  I am sure in TX most departments have something like that and possible some high rate of fire weapons to go with it.

I have already mailed out the May-June new member packets.  If you joined in May or June and got yours let me know, also let me know if you did not get yours.

I also just got back from a brief vacation, and have some logs to check for additional LONP points, I think we have one new member but will know for sure in couple of days.

Bob, the DXLabs-FLDigi Gateway will work with Win 10, once you get it installed. It took me three times to install with no errors but have been using it for close to a year now with no issues. Have you tried installing only the base program without the update? That's how I installed mine (eventually!), then just have to copy the upgrade .exe file into the directory. Also, allow the installer to place the Gateway in the default (C:\) directory.

Hope this helps
