Hat & License plates

Jerry N9AVY

Told this story to W4BZM  and got a response from K6LR; so thought I’d share it with group.

A couple years ago my grandson who is in Navy and was aboard the T.R. (carrier) gave me a nice ballcap with NAVY on it for Xmas.  Didn’t get much use until lately when I started wearing it.

Last week I was at a burger joint in drive up window and ordered a small burger for lunch.  There was a guy in a pick up in front of me. When I got to window the kid handed me the burger and said the guy ahead paid for it with a “thanks for your service !”.   Well,  I was never in the military and felt really guilty about this.  Guess I’ll have to “pass it on”.   Had posted this on Facebook last week, but thought I’d share it with group.  Guess I’ll stop wearing my Navy hat , but will keep license plates !

Geary:

Wasn’t really hiding.  Saw you several times in QSO, but you already have me for LONP credit.  Skipped a few others for same reason.  This was aimed at getting new members a boost in their LONP totals.  (maye a few old members, too).  Was trying to play by rules…

Good signal out of Oklahoma !  (Love spelling Oklahoma because song runs through my head – Tnx Rogers & Hammerstein !)

Jerry, you hid well from Oklahoma. HI HI
N8TCP is the only station I have seen all weekend calling CQ CQ 070 Daze, other than myself.

We finally made contact Sunday morning!  Barely, but made it.

The bands frustrate this old farm boy who grew up using Motorola business band radios.

But I get to make QSOs enough I am enjoying HF again/still, after a nine-year lull until just before the Chase last year.

I still prefer PSK, have not been back to FT8 since January.  This is where prefer to stay.

Have fun y'all, it is a great hobby.

working stations with 070 numbers

Jerry N9AVY

Been thinking back to all the 070 numbers I’ve worked since 2006.  Most times I just called “CQ” and took whoever answered. Seems like often some would have 070 numbers they forgot about or just didn’t bother to include in macro. Needless to say I was surprised when I uploaded contacts to the checker and found out I had work stations with 070 #s.

So, just work everyone you see on waterfall and you may get some surprises.  I tried using the app for MixW, but couldn’t get it to work. Would have been helpful, but just wasn’t meant to be.

I approved one station today who upped his LONP totals; so the 070 Daze was somewhat of a success. Added a few new members to my own LONP totals which was fun in spite of poor conditions.  New members: just keep calling and you’ll be surprised what happens.

Moved to 20M from 12:00Z-14:00Z

Appears to be a bit slow today.

According to PSK Reporter, I'm heard in CA, TX, and WV so the band is open....but no takers.  Guess nobody is up and around yet.  Going down to 80 and see what PSK Reporter shows for me there.

Just looked at 20/40/80m  and they’re pretty dead.   Hope tomorrow (Sunday) is better.

Worked some stations in IA & MN today on 20m which is a rare happening here in Northern Illinois. Got them in log.

Spent a lot of time listening to W4BZM (which I need for LONP), but every time I went to call he disappeared… maybe tomorrow.  Also missed YV4YY whom everyone seemed to work , but it appears his signal didn’t make it this far North.  There were probably some other new members , but never heard any.
