At least I am not alone.
Got the wife to help with the math and turns out
sunset is about 04:20Z but band doesnt wake up till 05:00Z.

Had a look at the history of The Firecracker and found
the following results..
2018 there was 0 contacts after 04:00Z
2017 there were 5 after 04:00Z
2016 there were 32 after 04:00Z
2015 there were  32 after 04:00Z

Strangely this just happens to coincide with the two of us whining on the digest.
Maybe we should lobby the executive to let us have a 40M contest in the begining
of July where the only points are contacts with a PNW station. Alternatively another
thing may help is to assign 100 bonus points to any PNW station. This would keep the
active calls going a bit later.
now I am just rambling
cheers de Barry

This is way too late for an old man to play.
Hope there is a good turn out.

Yup Jim, it is TOUGH!  In fact, I think it may be the toughest of all the 070 endorsements.  Particularly those A's, I's and N's.  It always comes down to them at the end.  But being tough is what makes it so rewarding when it's done.  But you've completed 93.41% of what's needed!  That is 2098 completed and only 148 to go.  I know you will make it!  Just keep on keepin' on!

And have you noticed that once you complete a letter, calls with that letter are all over the waterfall?  At least it seemed that way to me - hi hi!

Jim:

Did my WTW in it’s 1st year or so and tried to wok everything in sight on WF.  In those years there were daily openings to Europe and sometimes Asia & Pacific.  Must have worked hundreds of Italian, French and German stations… called “CQ” a lot and took everyone who answered… especially the QRP European guys which we don’t hear much from these days.

The old adage of “make hay while the sun shine”  comes to mind on this. When the propagation is there one needs to work it relentlessly. But now many have gone to “that mode which shall not be named” and there are fewer PSK31 stations to work, but it seems that many are returning because of boredom.

Conditions should pick up in a year or two; meanwhile, work everything you can… set up schedules to work some you need.

BTW , I wasn’t on everyday because I had a full-time job I was working; so was home maybe 2 days a week or went in late. Some morning I would work 30-50 stations before heading off to work.  Now that I’m actually really retired, the propagation stinks !!!

Talk about so, so, close, but no cigar. If you get a chance, please help out these “almost there” folks:

K3RTK, Rick – Needs one (1) member QSO for LONP at the 100 level.

RN3Z, Mikhail – Needs 15 “N’s” for WTW (has 2231 of 2246 letters needed to complete)

W7PAQ, Frank – Needs 13 “I’s” and 21 “N’s” for WTW (Must be an “N” shortage.)

N9AVY, Jerry – Needs 76 new member QSO’s for LONP Honor Roll++ Level (1,000)*

I’m sure there are many more that are almost there on some Endorsement or other. When you get really close, feel free to post a request for some assistance!
