As an aid to planning your APE, and activating a most wanted Grid Square, I put together the attached using Bob's - KK6MKU - Map and Steve's - W3HF - Most Wanted list.  The Top 40 are highlighted in yellow and the listing on the right is the number of QSOs that have been logged by 070 members with those grids.

Going APE is great fun!  Going APE from one of those grids almost guarantees you'll be the station creating a pile-up!  That is an experience every ham should have at least once!

Dave-
Welcome to chasing grids!  It can be both a lot of fun and very frustrating!

Attached are a couple of Excel Spreadsheets (old .xls format) that make it easier to track your progress on grids.  The first - Grid Master Spreadsheet - is just a listing of all the grids needed for the 070 Endorsement.  I put it together - with help and guidance from Steve, W3HF, when I first started working on grids.  The second - Maidenhead Grid Map Master - is a very clever spreadsheet created and offered up to the group by Bob - KK6KMU, It is arranged to reflect the grids on a map of the USA. The Red filled squares are grids that are in the lower 48 but are not required for the 070 grid awards.  When you work a grid, you simply use "fill" to color the cell for that grid!  Super!

This morning I created a folder - 070 Grid Chase - in the files section of this group.io and uploaded both these files to it.  So if the attachements won't open for some reason, you can download them from the files section.

Enjoy the chasing grids and hope to work you soon!

GO APE – Plan it - Do it!

stan W9SMR

Go APE!

Activate a County, State or National Park.

Put a rare Grid on the air!

Throw an antenna into a Roadside Rest-Area tree!

Join Justin, KC2GIK under the Cape May Lighthouse
Take over a Pontoon Boat

Now it is time to start planning to GO APE!

For our newer members, APE stands for August PSK-31 Expedition - sort of a 070 version of Field Day.  But much more relaxed.  The rules are pretty simple – basically, go at least 20 miles from home and go portable.  You can find the complete details by clicking here-APE Rules.  Check it out!

And no, you don't need a battery or generator.  You can use commercial power if it is available.  You just cannot use preexisting amateur radio equipment or antennas at the site.   But, you don't have to "rough it."  You can operate from an air conditioned cabin at the lake if you want.

Talk it up to your friends from Field Day and your local Radio Club.  Convince them to join you in going APE!  You can go alone or you can have as many operators as you want.  Each operator may use their own call sign.  You can go APE for one day or the entire month of August.

To qualify for the 070 APE Award, you need only 20 two-way QSO’s.

Be sure to post your plans here on the Reflector at least 2 weeks prior to your operation.  Or you can send your plans to the APE Award Manager, Bryon, W7RIV.  APE Manager

Start planning!  August is just over 2 weeks away !

Hi Dave,

What grids do  you need?  I usually operate if some has a specific grid request, but if I have operated from that grid, I usually don't again.  So Please send me you grid requests and I will try to be on the air in those grids.  I will be on in the morning from EM94, EM95, E M96 and EM97, FM07.

Start planning APEs

Justin Mattes--KC2GIK

Alright folks time to start planning those APEs. I again want to invite
members down to the Cape May Lighthouse (USA-127) to do an APE. I don't
have a working PSK-31 setup at the house so basically I am providing some
space in Cape May in view of the lighthhouse to setup shop! I tried this a
few years ago with Steve, W3HF and we figured out the garage is the best
place to setup your gear. I really want to get back on the air even if the
bands aren't great

Let me know

Barry,

This is not a contest.

It is a Members' Meet & Greet with a bonus of working on Endorsement Stickers.

There is no rush. Chat about your LONP status, your Rig, your other Hobbies or just exchange your name, the RST, your QTH and Grid.

So let the mood guide you and enjoy our marvelous PODXS 070 Club!!

Hope that will work for y'all!

Heads Up - Endorsement Daze – LONP and WALC-NA – Friday Aug. 9 to Sunday Aug. 11

stan W9SMR

This new activity is intended to promote more on-air time among members and provide targeted opportunities to achieve specific PODXS Endorsements. This is not a contest.

This 2nd Endorsement Daze activity will target LONP and the added focus on WALC-NA.

LONP - If you are a new member, this is your Golden Opportunity!  You can start accumulating toward that 100 member contacts required for LONP Membership - Currently, only 419 of our 2,600+ members are qualified.

If you haven't made LONP Honor Roll (500) – maybe this will put you over the top. Additional info and LONP Rules at LONP Rules

A second objective – WALC-NA Worked All West Coast North America*

With the questionable Propagation conditions these days, we can all use a boost toward the NALC-NA Sticker. In summary, work Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California on PSK-31.

Only 339 of our 2,600+ members have earned this one. And most of those were back when the ionosphere was quite agitated! These days we need a little help!

Additional info and WALC-NA Rules at http://www.podxs070.com/membership-endorsements/available-endorsements

Our Endorsement Daze #2 event is planned for 2 DAYS:

Starting: 00:00 UTC on Saturday, August 10 (Friday, August 9, 2000 EDT, in NA)

Ending:  23:59 UTC on Sunday, August 11

Join the fun and enjoy…Call: CQ CQ 070 Daze de (Ur Call)

Upload your complete log promptly to the  Online Endorsement Checker   Your LONP total will be displayed under the 070-LONP tab. Your WALC-NA progress will be shown in the “Completed” or “In Progress” column on your “070 Award Progress” page.

We are blessed to have several very active members in those states/provinces needed. I’ll note just a few. Alaska is well represented by Alan, WL7CG. Barry, VA7GEM, does a great job putting British Columbia on the waterfall. Washington has 57 members and is well represented by Tom, K8TOM and Paula, K7PAX. Oregon has 42 members and California (not surprisingly) has 129. Bob, KK6KMU provided many Ops in the 40M Firecracker Sprint their CA QSO.

Our members on the West Coast are struggling for contacts, partly because those operators on the East coast and the Mid-West are hitting the sack before conditions are favorable to the West coast. An idea has been offered where operators periodically check the activity they see and post that info to the Reflector. Enter your own call or other’s in PSKReporter to see activity. As you see activity on the waterfall, be sure to “SPOT” those calls to PSKReporter. Pick your operating times and Bands to optimize short, medium and long distance contacts.

It’s OK to QSO with non-members, too. Just show them how much fun the

070 PODXS Club can be and welcome them to join us.

* WALC-NA
Work All Left Coast of North America and earn the WALC-NA endorsement! To qualify for the WALC-NA, work Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California on PSK31, one contact required in each state/province for a total of 5 contacts. 160M thru 6M only.
