Just a reminder that the 2001 DX Specials are getting ready to expire
at
the end of this month. So if you've worked 20 different German stations on
PSK this year, send me your log info and I'll get your endorsement in the
mail.
Two new DX Specials for 2002 will be announced shortly after the new
year.
Be assured that I have conferred with my closest advisors in chosing the
2002
DX Specials, so there wont be another "BV incident" again. Hey, how was I
to
know there weren't any PSK-ops in Taiwan ?? 73 de Jay N3DQU.

Mysteries of the 070 Club Revealed!

N3DQU@...

Every so often we hear from an 070 Club member who wonders why he got his
certificate in the mail but not his endorsements, or visa versa. For those
relatively new to the 070 Club and those members who have often wondered but
were afraid to ask, here is a brief description of the 070 Club organization
and what happens with your applications.

The 070 Club is a PSK awards program sponsored by the Penn-Ohio DX
Society, a very small (only 4 members!) HF-oriented club located in western
Pennsylvania and more commonly known by its initials PODXS (pronounced
PO-DIX), not to be confused with the Ohio/Penn DX Bulletin, a very fine
weekly DX newsletter published by Tedd Mirgliotta, KB8NW.

The 070 Club itself is run by two guys, both named Jay. For convenience
sake and to avoid any confusion, they will be referred to by their callsigns
KA3X and N3DQU.

KA3X is the manager of the 070 Club and holds certificate #001. He is the
Top Banana and takes care of the new members, issues 070 Club member numbers,
member certificates, Ragchewers certificates and QSO upgrade spots (e.g. 50,
100, 150, etc). KA3X's email address is < JHudak3rd@... >.

N3DQU holds certificate #010 and takes care of the 070 Club website and all of the
information placed therein. He also takes care of the 070 Club reflector, issues the
endorsements (e.g. Aloha, Lower 48, Hot Dog!, etc.) and often spends his off
hours thinking up new ones just to keep you guys busy! N3DQU is also the
contest manager and takes care of such things as the Three-Day Weekend (TDW),
which took place this past June and was a big success! N3DQU's email address is
< n3dqu@... >.

If they are lucky, KA3X and N3DQU may see each other once a month. There
is no central database and no meetings to conduct 070 Club business. Almost
all correspondence regarding the 070 Club is passed between the two via the
internet, and each mails out the respective items that they are responsible
for to the members. For example, if a member puts in for an upgrade to the
300 QSO level and also applies for an Aloha endorsement, then the 300 spot
will be mailed out by KA3X and the Aloha endorsement will be mailed out by
N3DQU.

For best results, please send your applications and requests to the person
responsible for that particular item. If you send a QSO upgrade to N3DQU for
example, your request has to be forwarded to KA3X and may result in a delay.
By the same token, if you send an endorsement request to KA3X, then he must
forward the information to N3DQU, once again possibly resulting in a delay.

So you can see that it is quite possible to receive your upgrades,
certificates, and endorsements all at different times, even though you had
applied for them at the same time. The TARA Rumble and the TDW also
slowed throughput down quite abit, but the backlog has been cleared up and
everything is now back on track.

The 070 Club is free and open to all amateurs licensed to operate on the
HF bands. Operation of this awards program is made possible thru the support
of PODXS and contributions made by 070 Club members. Many thanks to all the
070 Members for your participation and enthusiasm! 73 de Jay N3DQU.

Thank-You Jay for clearing that up for me. You explained it well
enough that even this ole hillbilly understands it now.

There's been quite a lot of activity in the Deathmatch so far, most
all has been on 10,15 and 20 meters, I haven't seen much on 40 or 80.

Thanks Again & 73,

Hey Bernie, we don't laugh at them elementary questions, it's the
advanced ones that we get a chuckle out of hi! Anyways, according to
the rules on the Deathmatch website, you get credit for working DXCC
countries once per band. So for example, if you work DL on 20m, DL on
15m es DL on 10m, that would be 3 mults. It would be easier to figure
them out by band I would think, altho you can do it whichever way is
the easiest for you. So first I would add up all the DXCC countries
worked on 80m, then do the same for 40m, etc. After you get all your
DXCC mults figured out per band, add them all together, then multiply
that total times the total contact points to get your final score.
Clear as mud, eh! I don't see anything in the rules about not taking
credit for working your own country, so don't forget to take credit
for any W's that you worked. Also, they want a buck included with
your entry so don't forget to send that along too.
I didn't get a chance to work the Deathmatch, so how about some
reviews from those that did work it, good, bad or otherwise....Jay
N3DQU.

PSKFest es TDW

N3DQU@...

Hey, speaking of PSK contests, don't forget that we have the PSKFest
coming up next month, January 19th, so save some on-the-air time for that
one. And coming up in June will be the TDW. For the benefit of the new guys,
the Three-Day Weekend or TDW as everyone likes to call it is a closed contest
for 070 Club members only. The rules from this year's event are still posted
on the 070 website, so you can get an idea of what it is all about.
Everything will be the same, except for the number of multipliers and the
bonus stations. If it's not too early to ask, I am looking for volunteers to
be bonus stations for the next TDW, to be held June 2002. If interested, send
an email to n3dqu@aol.com direct with your request and a run down of your
station. I will need four stations again and will try to space them out
around the globe to give everyone a shot at some bonus points....Jay N3DQU.

ATA Contest

N3DQU@...

There have been a number of questions from the members concerning the ATA
Contest held last month. I can not answer for the lack of TA participation in
the event as I have no information that would clear up that little mystery
for us, but I can tell you this: If you worked the Anatolian ATA PSK Contest
and would like to receive the Attaturk Attaboy, please send in your logs to
ta7j@qsl.net in accordance with the rules on the contest website. Do not send
your logs to the 070 Club! Also, please do not be concerned if you do not
receive an acknowledgement to your submission or that the results are not
posted on the contest website. The important thing is to submit your log to
TA7J by the deadline 10 December 2001.
After you have sent off your log to TA7J, send an email to n3dqu@aol.com
saying that you have submitted your log and would like to receive the
Attaturk Attaboy...Jay N3DQU.

Anatolian Question

Hi All,

I sent my logs in for the Anatolian ATA contest to the e-mail
address on their website. But since it doesn't appear that they are
going to post any results before the deadline of the 10th. for the
070 endorsement, do we also need to send our logs to 070 or what do
we need to do ?

Thanks & 73,
Bernie / KF4FHS
