Re: BV Survey

Steve W3HF

Correction, I listed all the different calls that were on the e-mail.

I have only worked 3 total BV4VE, BV8BC, BX4AG (worked BV8BC 3 times)
wish I had worked all 12 on the list.

And here I was, incredibly impressed at your marvelous
achievement!

But according to the stats I've seen, even three isn't shabby! And
you still have 13 more days to find a few more. Now that I'm back
home in PA, it looks like I won't see my total increase.

Well, BW0RS is a scoute group in Taiwan. I have received
their QSL card as well.

B Prefixes

Duncan McMahon <zl3jt@...>

de Jungle Telegraph
I don't want to create an international incident, but I have a copy of 'Call Sign
Directory' by Hans Schwarz, published in Germany 1996. I know things can change but
the allocation of 'B' prefixes from this book is as follows:
BA to BN Peoples Republic of China (PRC), the number and suffix can indicate the
area in China; BO to BQ Taiwan, (Special stations): BR to BU, PRC (Special stations
e.g. BS7H for Scarbrough Reef): Now here's the fly in the oil! BW to BX, PRC Allocated
to foreigners: and last but not least, BY to BZ, PRC Club stations, or 'co-operators'
of club stations.
Now the fact that people have worked BW and BX and been told that the station is
in Taiwan, makes me think that the PRC or ITU must have re-allocated this sub section?
Is Hans Schwarz wrong? Or was the station in which country to avoid...ah! problems?

However the website may be more accurate...but never take anything on the web as
gospel...Hi! 73s

I just checked the "suspect" calls from my list (BX4AAC, BX5AA,
BN0W, BW0N, and BW0TCC) on the HamCall web server.

All but BN0W showed up with Taiwan addresses. BN0W showed up
as being assigned to Taiwan (based on the indicated flag), but
without a direct address (QSL via BV5KI).

Maybe not definitive, but more information.

That's only the second PRC station I've heard of on PSK. The other
was BA4RF. (What an awful callsign in English! I keep reading the
letters and skipping the number!)

I believe if I was that feller I'd move to a country that has vanity
calls.

Looks like you're right Steve.
I went to:

http://cpcug.org/user/wfeidt/Dxcc/dxcc.html

and here's what it says.
Taiwan is BM thru BQ, BU,BV,BW and BX
and all the rest must be PRC.
I should have thought to look there. I turn to the NG3K web page
often for other DX info. Thanks for the reference.

SOOOOO after much cyphering, whining, grunting and squirming in my
chair trying to turn that D into a V, it looks like my BD5RI ain't
Tawanese. I have recounted, refigured and talleyed up my standings and
after removing BD5RI from the list of all of my Taiwanese contatcts
for the year 2001, my Grand Total is..ZERO :-)
Hey, look on the bright side: you've got a different DXCC entity now.

Re: BV Survey

Steve W3HF

Ok, How about a BV Survey. The question is, how many different BV's
have
you worked in 2001? Jay.
I worked three, and saw two others.

But I think Erika worked eight, if I understood her email. And Steve
N6YIH/7 worked 12.

BTW, I've been keeping track of the different calls that were
reported, and I only counted up to 12:

BN0W
BQ9P
BV1YA
BV4DC
BV4QI
BV4VE
BV8BC
BX4AAC
BX4AG
BX5AA
BW0N
BW0TCC

BD5RI was also reported, but I think that may be People's Republic
of China, not Taiwan? (BTW, what IS the right split between PRC
and Taiwan in terms of prefixes?)

Here are the stations that have been worked!
Well, there are only 12 stations there maybe we could get Jay to drop the
number of contacts to 1 or 2
That would be nice. Just a thought.

Yes, I worked more but that are all I ever heard or saw:

BN0W
BQ9P
BV1YA
BV4QI
BV4VE

BX4AAC

Seems we just worked not hard enough for that one, maybe some of the 070
members should go on dxpedition
to Taiwan.
Good weekend to all!

Steve W3HF did very well! I got 3 in my log...
BX4AAC, BV8BC, BV4VE... with Steve's report there might be 8 or so

Anybody else got any others?
