Re: CQ Digital Prefix Hunters

Hi Jay,

I'm excited about the new DPX award, but a little surprised that the award will require actual QSLs in the possession of the applicant.  I have always loved the PODXS "log info only" requirements for awards and endorsements.  If anyone cheats, they've their own conscience to tend with.

But thanks for accepting eQSLs - it makes it so much easier.  (At least someone accepts them...)

Vy 73 and the best to you in the new year,

Chas, K8IJ

Subject: [070] CQ Digital Prefix Hunters

CQ digital prefix hunters! Beginning January 1, 2002, the Penn-Ohio DX
Society (PODXS) will be unveiling a new award program called PODXS DPX.
Similar to the CQ WPX program, PODXS DPX is for the amateur out there who
does his prefix hunting on the digital modes.
The idea for this award came from Ernie Mills WM2U when he discovered that
the CQ WPX program covered only the CW and Phone modes. So for the last
couple of weeks, Ernie and I have been burning up the internet, sending ideas
and files back and forth until finally we came up with what we think will be
a very popular program with the digital crowd! As it turns out, Ernie is a
great guy to work with and pretty much already had the whole thing figured
out at his end, all I had to do is throw in my 2 cents worth every once in
awhile to keep things interesting! Hmmm...Guess that is why the Rumble is
such a big success, eh!
The rules and forms are available at two websites: <
http://www.qsl.net/wm2u/podxs_dpx.html > and <
http://hometown.aol.com/n3dqu/podxs_dpx.htm >. A "Top Ten" list will also be
posted yearly on the PODXS website. Note that the DPX program will not be
officially online until Jan 1, 2002 so don't start sending in your
applications yet, but I wanted to give you guys advance notice so you can
start counting up them prefixes. Also, please note that 070 Club members get
a 50% discount on the basic certificate, just one of the many perks of 070
Club membership hi! 73 de Jay N3DQU.

Good morning  Happy New Year

Glad to see someone else has an anti-DL filter. I already worked one EA station from the US, I see we already have a winner for the award so there must be some out there.

I not have my 20 Dl stations just a day late and a contact short

Charlie

Glad to see someone else complaining to Jay, I do it all the time, I have no problem with needing the cards or eQSL cards.
Now I have sent over 300 cards to the burro over the year and still waiting for my first one from them, I do understand I have some there but they have not sent me any, should I get them I might almost be there for the award or at least close.

Good Luck and Happy New Year everyone.

Sorry Steve,

but the year is not over yet, on 20 meters are always some early birds,
maybe you can catch the last one short before midnight.
Good luck with that one and for the coming year !

DX-DL

spdomingue@...

Well I did not make the DX-DL as of 11 AM local here and the dx windo is closed unless somthing strange happens Looks Like I did not make the award.

Well I will try to be the first on MY block to get the DX-JA and DX-EA unless the filter here changes from DL to EA stations but sure worked a bunch the last few days looking for the last few DL station. I made 19 contacts this year with DL stations just one short.

Good luck every one in the New Year and See you all in the PSK Fest.

Hello Everyone,
Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy New Year. We have a lot to give
Thanks for. Unfortunately, many people here in the Big Apple will
not. Our prayers go out to them.
Gud DX and a clear waterfall to all.

Re: Great DX

Hi Steve and 070 Gang,
Yes the DX was fabulous yesterday. In addition to the stations that Steve mentions, I also worked CT1, LA4, PA5, SM5, C31BO (Andorra), G4 and the Canary Island station EA8EH. I'd trade them all in for Delaware and HI.
Gud DX to all,
Lenny K2LAM

Great DX

spdomingue@...

Today Saturday was Great on 10 and 15 meters Here are the PSK stations I saw print on the screen Here in Boise Idaho.
ZD7, SP3, ON!, 4K6, EZ8, IK7, SMO
I even worked  2 DL stations and after giving up for the day on the DL's I worked CU3FV, EA6DD, EA8EH, and EA5AMK for some new DX locations and IOTA contacts. So DX was great here but for the lack of the DL stations well 2 days and 3 contacts to go for the DX-DL endorcement.

Best of the New Year to everyone and Good DX to all

Hi Steve - Gud morning,
I've been working 20mtrs exclusively. In Fact, all but a hand full of contacts are on 20mtrs. I guess I've been looking too hard for DE and HI. Will definitely get on the other bands for sure. Will be looking for you and the group.

Lenny -

You have GOT to get on 10m, the sooner the better. I still haven't
found Hawaii, but I made it to Japan, on five watts and an attic
dipole! Marginally copyable, and probably helped by the fact that it
was an operator I had worked before when I was in California, but a
legitimate QSO nonetheless.

Now back to searching for Delaware ....

Steve

Well said, dear Duncan, the PSK-31 people are notorious
their for long transmissions, compared to RTTY (Baudot)
DXers. It's a good idea to keep transmissions short when:

1. Working DX pile-ups

2. Facing changing propagation conditions and slow QSB.

Or, I might add, when working QRP. I may indicate that I'm QRP,
but only if the other op seems to want to "chat" a little.

I save the really long brag files (with hard disk size, monitor type,
printer, and color of case) for my very good friends. :-)

A real good idea is to short your transmissions and wait for the gap, rather than
calling over each other...just a stupid mess....Happy New Year! Of course! I apologise
it's not this group that needs the advice....:-)

Me too, at 0738 UTC. Real S9+5 dB over here. He uses 150 W on
quad antenna. QSL is via DJ1MM.

It is digusting every time a new one turns up, they keep calling
and calling so actually nobody has a chance.
It's the direct result of DX-cluster. Without DX-cluster
you cannot work SSB DX because they don't identify. With
DX-cluster, the pile-up is created within seconds. A few
days ago I heard 7Q7LA callign CQ in CW and we had a nice
chat for a while. As soon as I signed SK, a huge pile up
started instantaneously, making further contacts with
7Q7LA nearly impossible.

Happy New Year
