I will be operating from DE Sept 7th and 8th.  Probably on 20, but will also have 40 and 15 capability.  If anyone still need a DE contact let me know.  The xyl and her girlfriend are going to a high school reunion in NY, so I will have most the weekend for radio ops.

Glad for the miss-post.
I finally have my 20, 15, & 10M Vertical up and am on the air again.
I am still unpacking and slowly setting things up. Need to get up my Doublet or Inverted L for 80 & 40.
In any case, I hope to be on in some capacity next weekend if anyone needs my number.

Some good news for you Justin!  You don't need 100 contacts using N2CMC for membership - only 50 different calls using PSK31.  And they don't have to be 070 members.  Now to get them LONP, you would need 100 different members AFTER N2CMC has membership.  Can you give us some idea of the time you'll be on?  Preferably in UTC?  I'll be looking for you between our thunderstorms.

Stan, thanks for drawing some attention to my needs. This is actually not clever planning, it’s the other way around ;) I need these days because that is the week my wife and I spend in the Adirondacks every year. And up until this year, I did not have a mobile data station. Hopefully my setup will work. I do however have a backup: I set up my home station so that I can remotely operate if I have to. You’ll see what station I am operating based on my grid: if it’s FN13, it’s home and does not count for APE, if it’s anything else, I am operating from the field.  I hope to fill in those days with APE contacts.

Thanks again,

Karl Heinz - K5KHK

N2CMC this Sunday

Justin Mattes--KC2GIK

Ok Folks I have good news and not so good news!! After months of back and
forth I have finally gotten the green .light to do PSK from the Cape May
County Amateur Radio Club (N2CMC) this SUNDAY (tomorrow). Now the not so
good news, I'm restricted to 40 and 80 meters AND I can't use my own call
obviously. The station is located at the airport and unfortunately it
isn't 20 miles from my house, so not APE for me. However I can give out a
rare grid!!! My goal for this next few weeks is to go 100 contacts using
the N2CMC so the club can apply for its own 070 #!! So if you see me
PLEASE give me a call!

I see several 366 Award chasing folks need some QSOs on August dates coming up fast.

If you see these folks on the air, be sure to give them a call and make their DAY.

WB8YXF - 8/4
KE0GHU - 8/4, 8/5
VA3TPS - 8/8, 8/10
K5KHK - 8/11, 8/12, 8/13, 8/14, 8/15, 8/16, 8/17

It looks like Karl, K5KHK, has cleverly planned his upcoming K5KHK APE efforts (August 10 - 16) to overlap his missing days very nicely.

If you also need dates in August, post a return to this notice back to the Reflector so we can be on the lookout for you.

Endorsement Daze #2 - LONP and WALC-NA

This new activity is intended to promote more on-air time among members and provide targeted opportunities to achieve specific PODXS Endorsements. This is not a contest.

This 2nd Endorsement Daze activity will target LONP and the added focus on WALC-NA.

LONP - If you are a new member, this is your Golden Opportunity!  You can start accumulating toward that 100 member contacts required for LONP Membership - Currently, only 423 of our 2,698 members are qualified.

If you haven't made LONP Honor Roll (500) – maybe this will put you over the top. Additional info and LONP Rules at LONP Rules

A second objective – WALC-NA Worked All West Coast North America*

With the questionable Propagation conditions these days, we can all use a boost toward the NALC-NA Sticker. In summary, work Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California on PSK-31.

Our Endorsement Daze #2 event is planned for 2 DAYS:

Starting: 00:00 UTC on Saturday, August 10 (Friday, August 9, 2000 EDT, in NA)
Ending:  23:59 UTC on Sunday, August 11

Join the fun and enjoy…Call: CQ CQ 070 Daze de (Ur Call)

Upload your entire log promptly to the  Online Endorsement Checker   Your LONP total will be displayed under the 070-LONP tab. Your WALC-NA progress will be shown in the “Completed” or “In Progress” column on your “070 Award Progress” page.

Our members on the West Coast are struggling for contacts, partly because those operators on the East coast and the Mid-West are hitting the sack before conditions are favorable to the West coast. An idea has been offered where operators periodically check the activity they see and post that info to the Reflector. Enter your own call or other’s in PSKReporter to see activity. As you see activity on the waterfall, be sure to “SPOT” those calls to PSKReporter. Pick your operating times and Bands to optimize short, medium and long distance contacts.

It’s OK to QSO with non-members, too. Just show them how much fun the 070 PODXS Club can be and welcome them to join us.

If you have questions concerning this event or concerning the upload process, please let me know:  robinstan@...

* WALC-NA
Work All Left Coast of North America and earn the WALC-NA endorsement! To qualify for the WALC-NA, work Alaska, British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and California on PSK31, one contact required in each state/province for a total of 5 contacts. 160M thru 6M only.

Actually, the Rules are quite specific. No Special Allowance is required :

"An APE Award portable expedition site must be at least 20 statute miles (32 km) from the home QTH of the primary applicant."

As Primary Applicant, Bob, KC9UR, is quite within the bounds and historic interpretation of the rules, being 44.5 miles south of the Pontoon Portable location.

I hope you all enjoy the APE chase and persevere under these lousy propagation conditions to win the coveted APE Hunter Certificate for working us on 3 or more bands.

You did not read that wrong.  However, there have been special allowances made in the past as long as the “spirit” of the APE is honored.

Re: The APES are Coming!

I say this because I, in fact, got the allowance for my APE in 2014 for the BSA Airfest.

http://www.podxs070.com/ape-august-psk31-expedition/ape-tall-tales-2014

It was only 13 miles from my home QTH, but it’s pretty obvious the spirit of the APE was met, and item #6 of the Requirements covers the bases for the allowance anyway.

6. All applications are subject to the aproval (or not) of the APE Award Manager. Applications determined inconsistent with the spirit of this award or the philosphy of the Penn-Ohio DX Society (PODXS) Ø7Ø Club may be rejected. The Penn-Ohio DX Society (PODXS) and the Ø7Ø Club reserve the right to waive certain requirements for this award as is deemed necessary.

I am looking forward to having contacts with all the members that are going to setup a APE station. I realize that the time, effort and expense to setup a APE station requires a big commitment. I would like to thank all those stations going APE this year.

I believe most members realized from the 1st time the KC9UR APE station went on the air that it more than met the distance requirements.

If a station did require special allowances I myself would definitely be in favor of granting the allowance for the simple reason the station requesting is already going the effort. To the majority of us I believe the spirit of the club is to fun and enjoy the hobby and not to get nick-picky.

All members benefit from the efforts of the few that go to the time and trouble of setting up a APE station. The majority of us do not go APE and to those that do I say again "THANK YOU".

PS to Stan and Bob I already have a frame ready for certificate #7.
