Re: TDW

Don Snider

Thanks to those who pulled out my QRP signal.

I was camping on Red Creek campground on a 4000 ft plateau in Dolly
Sods, WV and having a blast. The weather held me back a bit with heavy
rain and lightning Friday night and a variety of electrical storms
through the weekend. Top it off with continuous high winds and you can
imagine it was a bit of a challenge up there working from under a tarp
or in the tent.

I only managed 6 070 contacts but I still had a great time. Twenty
meters was great fun on Sunday morning with VKs and ZLs booming in like
they were down the street.

Rig: FT-817 into an MFJ tuner into a Delta Loop up about 30 ft
Computer: Fujitsu Lifebook P, MixW 2.0 and homebrew interface.
Charging: Unisolar flexible 5 and 11 watt solar panels (The 11 watt has
a hole in the middle but it still works like a champ).
Power: High capacity laptop power pack for the laptop and a gel cell for
the ft-817.

Good Job Ludek!!!
Sounds like you were a busy guy this weekend. I kept looking for you on 10
meters, but it was really bad here, I only got 5 qsos on 10 all weekend,
PY2MJ was the only DX station I got on that band.

Last year I was a bonus station because I was part of the planning and helped out a little there.

This year I was a Bonus station because N3QDU needed 4 stations and only had 3 so I jumped in.

Drop a line to JAY and tell he you would like to be a bonus station He likes to spread them out some so all 4 stations will not be in Calif or the Flordia.

You might remember to send him a note next year as if you do it now he just may forget, well send him two one now telling him you would like to be a Bonus station and one next year to reminde he you are still here and want to help.

Well, Duncan, it's a dirty job, but somebody has to do it.  Just so you won't miss the contest next year, send me some tickets and I'll do the travel part for you and tell you how it was and that I missed the contest terribly.

The contest was fun, but travel in NZ sounds like more fun.  But we all feel sorry for you.  ROFL!!!!!!

Absence is excuseable folks! I'm sorry about the TDW. I have
been travelling around our 56000 sq.m. Island, the World's 10th largest, for the
last four days, and without a radio or computer.
It was a 3 day long weekend in ZL and we made use of the extra day to do some sightseeing
on the West Coast of the
South Island. We haven't been there for 25 years.
Did you know that we have glaciers in our sub-tropical rain forests in New Zealand?
Yes! It's true!
That's where we were....had a lovely time!
See you later 73s Duncan

Re: Gloating

Bernie <kf4fhs@...>

Well I guess it's my turn.

This was my first TDW, and I had a ball..
I was on the air 52 of the 72 hours, several of which were spent sending CQ
into the black hole of 10 meters. I added several callsigns to my LONP list,
but don't know if I got enough to finish it up or not.
I gave out enough information, to the ragchewers, about the 070 club to
make the membership at least triple :-)
and got several good DX entities and atleast 4 IOTA's.
I want to thank everyone who took the time to work me and to the ones who
spent an extra few minutes to say hi, I enjoyed every one of you.
I tried my best to work everyone that I saw, and to those I missed, I'm
truly sorry. If I had one more qso I would have given out 10,000 points.
Last but not least, I would like to thank the PODXS guys for putting this
great contest together.

73, Bernie / KF4FHS

"Ain't anybody gonna gloat?"
Are you sure you aren't transplanted from down here?
Excuse me....."Ain't you from round here?"

The band conditions, at least down here in Alabama, were dismal.Never saw any 070 ers on 80M/10M/6M.
I worked qrp,3-5W,with the FT 817 and portable MP-1,mostly out on the patio---good test for Field Day.Did make a few off-shore contacts with PY2MJ,OK1VSL,OK1AZK,and DL2AYL,which supprised me,considering my setup.
Family activities precluded spending as much time as I would have liked on the TDW,but had a ball working the other members.
   Would you settle for bloated?
