Re: Eqsls

Hi All,
It seems to me...

Wouldn't it be great if eQSL had an automatic log check function? That
anytime someone uploaded their log, the function would check each callsign in
that log to see if that station had uploaded his/her log, then find the
matching QSO. They could have a button/section in the InBox to list/view all
eQSL verified QSO's separate from unverified QSO's. It would eliminate a lot
of time spent at the site, and free it up for other users.

There has been some discussion about eqsl.cc, with people preferring that method
of confirmation.
This is the way a lot of people wish to confirm QSOs and in my opinion, if you are
a DXer in whatever mode you choose, you should join just to reply to the cards that
have been sent you by those people who do not use the existing methods. It doesn't
cost anything but a bit of time! You can also carry on as normal with your QSL collection
by advising the station via your own eqsl, that you expect their card in the traditional
method. In this way you can be selective in requesting the cards you actually need!

By uploading all your unconfirmed QSOs, that you haven't bothered to QSL, you will
allow those that wish a electronic confirmation to do so, and select the ones they
want.... then you continue to collect via the old methods!
I note when I check the site for any call, that there are 100s of unconfirmed QSOs
which is a pity....
How good is your own return??? Mine is 66% direct, 30% via the Bureau :-(

I think one of the problems with the eqsl system is that some ops are just uploading their whole logs en masse, probably because it is easier for them to do it that way than to send out individual requests for qsls. If everyone does it that way, then it is no problem. But some ops still log on paper (myself included) and have to do a manual search thru the logs to confirm the contacts. I have gotten eqsl requests for contest contacts that go all the way back to 1994, and it's pretty obvious that the guy just dumped his log up to eqsl and doesn't really need nor want my qsl. I have a bad return rate too on eqsl too, but for paper qsl's am 100%, because the guy went thru the trouble to put a stamp on it! Jay N3DQU.

That's possible, Don. I'm just not at the computer to play with it.
But you should be able to follow the procedure to save the contest
macros in a contest file, and then get the default set the way you
want it and save those.

In my case, though, I just use the Ctrl-macros for contests, and the
regular (non-shifted ones) for routine QSOs. I have to edit the
contest macros for each contest, but that way I don't confuse myself
with multiple files. It was only at the club station computer that I
messed with the files. And, I hope, most of the time Bill KG6EXF was
able to "unfix" whatever I had done to that station. :-)

Steve was right on.  I just checked and the DigiPan macro file is titled "default.mac".  The file contains such mysteries as "Call1" "CQ" "BTU" etc.  Open it with Notepad and you should be able to edit the information.

I think the files have a .mac extension. Somehow you must have
saved the "Field Day" setup. When operating at a club station, I
created my own set of macros and saved them as w3hf.mac. (I'm pretty
sure Digipan set the extension.) You can use a similar procedure.

(Note that I'm working from memory here.)

1. First of all, save what is now the default set of macros as
FieldDay.mac, or something similar. This will preserve them for
future
use.

2. Then modify the on-screen (default) macros back the way you want
them, and make sure that these get saved in the defaults file.

There's probably a way to simply rename files to effect this, but I
don't want to speculate without trying it first. (I just don't
remember what the "default startup" macros file is called.)

When I get home, I'll look around for the filenames, but someone here
can probably beat me to it. Look for .mac files in the DigiPan
folder.

I use EQSL and really like it. As others have said,
download and print the cards out by using a photo
program to batch print 4 on a sheet.

I quit the ARRL when they went to the "You must be a
member to get the award", it was just another example
of their snobishness, one thing we dont need.

I perfer now to work the 070 DX award and the EQSL
award, although the Eqsl is a bit harder (070 taint
easy either).

My sign off file on PSK says to qsl either direct or
via eQSL.cc

Re: Eqsl-ing

Dick Thompson <wb0dul@...>

Just an added thought; you can also print the eQSL cards you receive on a glossy or matte photo paper and they look much better.  Especially those that the sender has taken some time to make a nice looking card.  I hope the ARRL will someday see fit to accept cards from eQSL for miscellaneous awards.  There seems to be a little "war" going on between eQSL and the League.

Not sure how you folks feel, but the most beautiful QSL cards I've received over the years have come from Japan.  They all seem to take pride in what they mail out.  My eQSL card has a personalized photo of the Garden of the God (here in Colorado Springs) on it.  I did make a small donation and the service is nice.

To those that don't like that kind of QSL, then don't use it.

You can write comments on the cards when you enter them one at a

unless you want to put the same comment on every card. You can
also print more than one card/sheet if you download them and use
your own graphics program to lay out the page. If the cards don't
look nice, it may be because the originator didn't make an effort
to personalize his graphic or maybe that you need a new printer. I
have some that look better than many professionally printed cards.

It's the greatest thing since slice bread hi..well moving from the dark ages into the newer digital realm of the QSL card. And just think how many germs get passed arnd on traditional QSL cards hi. You dont know where that hand has been young man. And ARRL is already moving towards Electronic QSL cards in the future that we US hams will have to Pay for like Verisign service hmmm lots of money I see going down the drain with the Log book of the world ARRL's idea.
Something like 10 or 20 dollars for maybe 10 QSL cards sent out . And maybe your right on being charged for EQSL cards but, if everyone makes a donation it will stay free somewhat anyway. And you can get them proffesnial printed out and sent to via snail mail too.
And for me on my very very very limited budget Eqsl is right up my alley. Give em 5 dollars and exchange 2000 QSL's that a bargain too me. But, I guess the future will tell us everthing abt it. And it wil all come out in the wash. 73

Hi All, the eqsl service is free to register and collect
cards/upload log files. You can make a donation if you wish, but most
of the facilities are free. I have received nearly 500 eqsl's and
have uploaded my complete 2001 log to eqsl. The "authenticity
guarantee" is also free, just email a scanned copy of your license. I
like the eqsl service but also like real cards too. If anyone has had
a qso with me in the last year, go onto eqsl and your card will be
waiting. Like the others, I have not paid a penny for this service,
although the guilt factor is telling me that I should make a donation.

Re: Computer logging the PSKFest

I recently started using MixW and registered it about a week later
after I played with it extensively. The logging function is built in
to this multi digital mode program. Prior to the contest, I set up
macros just the way I wanted them for the contest. MixW
automatically indentifies the other station's call when it comes
across the screen. You just click on the call at it goes into the log
and the program will tell you if it is new, a new DXCC, new WPX or a
previous dupe. As a result, everything was automatically logged and
very rarely did I do any typing to work the contest. Just a lot of
clicking of the mouse on the screen.

So who all used a computer to log the PSKFest? Any good/bad

and except for a glitch that I may have caused myself, the program
worked fb!

Speaking of the TDW, we still need one more bonus station to get things set up for June. East coast, Left coast and central Europe are covered...Any volunteers?? Jay N3DQU.

Re: Digipan

Hi Don,

Ok, now I remember what I had to do when I had the exact same problem with
Digipan.

The "Default" macros "appear" to be saved to the default.mac file. In
actuality, they are, But! they are also saved in the Digipan.INI file and
these are what are loaded when you start Digipan. Open the .INI file and
edit these macros, save it, then start Digipan. The macros should be back to
where you want them. What I did after fixing that was set up my new
nonstandard contest macros and save them in a .MAC file with names such as
TDW.MAC or RUMBLE.MAC. Now I only have to load them for the tests, and for
normal ops the everyday macros load with Digipan.

Hope this helps,
