N3MK Dolly Sods, WV September 2002 writeup

Don Snider

We have posted the results of our (N3MK/W3GCW) September 2002 expedition
to Dolly Sods, WV. Since we had the luxury of driving right to camp we
experimented with some BIG antennas which were attached to a 36 ft
conduit tower. The tower was strapped to an 8ft "lantern support" that
was anchored with concrete. Antennas included an Arrow on top of the
tower and a 20, 15, 10 meter wire beam. We also has the luxury of a big
80 Ah gel cell and at 24 Ah gel cell.

The wire beam turned out to be a much more complex project than
anticipated and it took 6 hours to build. We never had a chance to
really tune it up properly. However, I still have the beam and will
probably play with it some more in the future. As it turns out, the 77'
delta outperformed the beam on all bands. I was able to tune the delta
for 40 - 6 meters.

Logs should be posted soon. I made my first VHF contest contacts on 50,
144, and 432 MHz from this location. Other contacts included 20, 15 and
10 meters.

Check out the details and pictures at:

Certificate Confusion...PLEASE READ

ny2u@...

Greetings:

I just read my last message and DO NOT want to cause any additional
confusion. I stated in my last message that it was directed to the members of
the "WORLD TEAM." That is partially true. I want to direct it towards those
that were actually on "TEAM CHALLENGER" but their certificate was printed as
"WORLD TEAM." Sorry for any confusion that message might have caused!

Certificates Corrected

ny2u@...

Greetings:

This notice are for the 5 members of the "WORLD TEAM" for the TARA PSK
"SPRING" RUMBLE - 2002. I apologize for the error with your certificates and
I can assure you the news ones are already printed and ready to be mailed. It
was a very simple error on our part but that doesn't correct things
unfortunately. We'll try and have the new certificates out in the mail on
Monday, Tuesday at the latest.

I want to thank you all for you support of the TARA PSK Rumbles!

80 M Sprint Results

Hey Everybody.

I would like to thank everyone who entered the first ever PODXS 070 Club
80m Autumn Sprint, I hope everybody enjoyed the contest, it was definately
different.

The scores that I have received and checked so far are on the website at :

http://www.angelfire.com/folk/leonards/80mresults.html

Some folks failed to count a few multipliers, and the scores on the website
have been adjusted to reflect the change.

Thanks Again & 73,
Bernie / KF4FHS

Aw come on Ernie, I just turned 63 and I can still do two or
three a minute, on CW anyway. Sorry I didn't get to
participate last night, taking my 3 year old granddaughter
to the county fair took precedence! Seeing her face on the
pony ride was, well, as they say priceless!!

Hi ya'll :)

Claimed Score:
Total QSO's = 27
Power Mult = 2
Total SPC = 19
Claimed Score = 1026

SOAP: Wow! I turned 60 this year and it
shows... I started off ok, but
as soon as my contest QSO rate reached 6.75 QSO's
/hour I could not
take the physical and mental pressure. Sorry guys
the pace got to me
and I had to be a 'no show' for the last two. :)

Here are my results:

IG: IC-751A into Alpha Delta Pathfinder tuner - Zepp antenna 300 ft long
and 60 ft high
PWR: Low (12 watts)
Time Zone: EST

There were a bunch of very light traces that I just couldn't make out
through the QRN and QSB.

Points 25 (QSOs) X 2 (PWR) X 21 = 1050 points

Re: 80m Sprint

Well I ended up with 8 contacts and 8 SPCs. With the x3 power
multiplier, that's a total score of 192.

I've uploaded my log to eQSL--even managed to find a way to
create an ADIF file from Excel. So all of you who contacted me will
have a eQSL waiting for you. I'd appreciate a response for DPX
purposes.

Thanks to all of you who managed to dig the weaker signals out of
the mud. Maybe next time I'll have a better 80m antenna, and it
won't be so hard.

Well it was a fun contest last night. We had a big storm come through at about 10:30 and the signal were up and down the rest of the night. I was finally able to work Bernie at the end, he was my last contact. I saw him a few times but could not make him out until the end. Unofficially here is my results.

34 QSO's
2 Power
20 SPC
