Re: Help

Hi Erika,

I had a problem involving the WAVE volume control in Windows. The WAVE would
be muted on computer startup. I would have to go in and un-check the mute
box whenever I started the computer. It fixed itself - and isn't THAT a
scary thought!

Good Luck,

Re: New Prefixes for DPX

Costas Krallis SV1XV <sv1xv@...>

From 2003 the prefixes SW1-SW9 are to be used for the new VHF-only
(144 and up) license and will not be available as special prefixes.
I think about using an SW1 prefix for a weekend during the next
weeks.

SJ1CI was on 18.156 this afternoon. Quite a pileup, but only on SSB.
6J1J is on 20m PSK now, and I saw 6J2IW a while ago, but then I
saw him CQing as XE2IW, so I'm not sure which call he was using.

In case you haven't seen them yet, Mexico has authorized special
prefixes for amateur stations from mid-August through 31 December.

The prefixes are 6J1, 6J2, and 6J3, with the 6J replacing the
traditional XE.

So here are a few more to chase for DPX.

Jay -

As the (unofficial) rules maven of the 070 club, I would like to
point out the following clause in the LONP rules:

"Operator-based Award - This is an operator-based award program and
as such, places no restrictions on the participants' respective
geographic locations at the time any QSOs submitted for this award
were made. QSOs made while portable or mobile in any way are all
valid for LONP, provided that the QSOs were made under the member's
call signs as listed in the 070 Club Alpha List and all other
conditions for the award are met."

The last sentence seems to say that the QSOs need to be made under
the member's callsign, and thus not under a club or other callsign.

Note that you can contact each 070 member only once. So if you
already have N3DQU in the log, any other contact with him can not be
counted for LONP purposes (no matter how much fun it is to talk to
Jay!).

Also note that there are some club stations in the 070 club. This is
one case where an individual may be a control operator for two QSOs
that will count for LONP, e.g., K3NJ and K3VOA, or K6DF and NJ6VT.

FYI,

THe new address for the PODXS.com home page is PODXS.com.

This works for most Folks, however if you are in VK land you must use WWW.podx.com.

So if you tell some one of the new address I believe we should send WWW.PODXS.COM so the rest of the world can find us.

If you have not gone to the new pages take a look we have a bunch of photos up there from the 1st Annual 070 Club meeting in Dayton.

Thera about 60 pages starting at www.podxs.com with all kinds of information there.

IF you see somtthing we do not have up there let me know and I will see if I can get that on the web.

More Re. 070 Sprints

JACK WEST <w7ld@...>

Rick and Bernie,

I have just a few more comments on the 070 Sprint subject. I am the OM of
Lovey, KB7JMW. I watched her work the 40 meter sprint. Propagation on 40
meters was pretty good early on in the evening. She watched the east coast
on her waterfall work stations two hours before she could start as she
waited for her "local start time". Then when it became midnight on the east
coast, propagation was still very good between here and there, but most of
the east coast stations had got tired and apparently went to bed such that
there were not many stations left to qso with her.

Thus she had about 4 good hours our of the six allotted to work the contest.
Lovey did WIN her local time zone, but she commented there was no way she
could win the "TOP DOG" award from way out here in the northwest. The east
coast is lucky that they can work Europe in a 3,000 mile hop and there are
many countries in Europe to work. Granted, on the west coast we can work
Hawaii and Alaska in about the same distance but that is only two
multipliers.

This note to the 070 group is offered as a friendly comment and Lovey was
gratified to win her class. With our modest stations here we have litterlly
no hope of working Europe, especially on 40 or 80 meters.

Respectfully,
Jack / W7LD and
Lovey / KB7JMW

Makes sense to me, Rick. I won the 40 meter Firecracker Sprint on July 6th in the Mountain Time Zone and Low Power. The secret is not to work anyone until you start the contest. Or, better yet, don't even enter the contest and maybe I can win again. Hi Hi.

Bernie,

The problem I have with the concept of "local time" is that suppose I work a
station on the East Coast before the contest starts. Counts for him, but
not me. Then, when the contest starts for me I have to work that station
again if it is to count for me. That station may be busy working others, or
may not want to work me since I am already in the log. Kind of defeats the
purpose that way. Basically I might have to end up working a station twice
to get the contact to count for both of us!!

Even if awards are given by time zone I am afraid I don't see the logic.

Rick,

I also forgot to mention that you will only be competing with people
in your own time zone, since a certificate is given to the winner in
EACH time zone. Of course, the Top Dawg award is given for the
highest overall score.
