Hawaii QSO Party

I note from WA7BNM's Contest Calendar that the Hawaii QSO Party is underway.  Click here for rules.  With Hawaii being one of the 2019 DX endorsement countries, this may be a prime opportunity.  Unfortunately, from here in central Florida, I haven't been able to work a KH call (that was actually in Hawaii) since May of 2017.  Maybe I'll get lucky and get one today!

Re: Holy Moly ! Bunches of LOTW QSLs

As with everyone else, I got my dump of confirmations from Barry.  I also got a ton of bureau cards the last couple of months, most from Germany and Italy, like the bureau dam broke, hi hi.  The oldest ones were from 2015, not nearly as old as Jerry's.  I still get LOTW confirms for when I lived in MD, but since I left in 2009 they probably are the oldest, still not catching up to Jerry.  I did find when I went to send out bureau cards the ARRL outgoing has dropped the $7.00 service charge and is just charging for weight like they use to.  Made sending my 50 sum cards much cheaper that I thought.

I am leaving for MD/DE this weekend and will be on the air from DE the weekend of Sept 7th and 8th, so I will post operating hours when I arrive in DE.

Barry must be having bad propagation or his station is down.
Thanks Barry for all the LOTW QSL's.
BTW .... I am on 20, 15 & 10 Meters (primarily 20 of course).
Still unpacking, reorganizing and repairing (vertical had to be repaired - old parts). My activity had sparse and timing seems to be no activity when I am on.
I have heard a few, but had antenna problems at the time. Everything is okay now.
I hope to work a few of you all soon.

Yes, Thank You Barry!  I got 50 new LoTW confirmations from him, with me operating from 19 different grids.  By the way, Barry also told me he scored that KK7UQ IMD meter listed on eHam that I posted about.  $75.00 CDN....which is about $56.50 US!  What a deal!

Re: Holy Moly ! Bunches of LOTW QSLs

We know band conditions when people start answering QSLs in great big bunches.  Think that’s when it starts t be a chore.

Did same up until about 2000 when I started catching up on 23 years worth of QSLs. Fortunately, most were answered via LoTW and Eqsl, but several hundred went out via Bureau systems.  Today, I try to answer all incoming QSLs right away, except for one which I found the other day in an unlikely spot.  Found that if you set aside one day a week for QSL duties, there isn’t a mountain of QSLs waiting to go out.  QSL duties are now less of a chore and when I think about those who are awaiting my crummy cards, it’s actually fun.

In my Novice days sent out a lot of QSLs and got few in return.  Tried some via LoTW, but not much luck with that. Still have a lot of stuff (domestic) in paper logs from 70’s/80’s, but am sure most are SK now.  Had one PSK31 contact in Africa I put off QSLing and later found out that he passed away a few months after we worked.. and it was a rare one , too. That’s why it’s a good idea to never put off QSL card chores.

There have been a few stations over the years which have sent a bunch of QSLs in one shot and better late than never !  Still get cards via Bureau from 70’s and 80’s !   Patience is a virtue – bah !
