Greetings from central Florida -

The antenna is down and all outside stuff is stored in the garage.  I'm no longer active in ARES due to health issues, but local EmComm frequencies are programmed into the VHF/UHF rigs and the emergency J-pole in the attic is tested.  Batteries are charged.  I'm QRT on HF until Dorian decides what to do or goes some place else.

Just to clarify, the ONLY endorsement that requires you work other members is the LONP series.  All other PSK31 Qs qualify.  So work 'em all!

It's on the web site (or the underlying data store), in multiple forms.

For a list in numerical order, go to the LONP pick off the main menu, in the menu bar on the right side of the main page. Once there, pick "070 Member Info."

For data in "raw" form (such as for import to another program), go to http://hamclubs.info/ . You'll find various versions, in CSV and TXT formats, with and without additional info.

Some members have "alert" files for certain PSK software. Let us know what you use and maybe there's a version that will help you.

Yup, but I’ still working on LONP and the 1000 mark couldn’t be further away.  Kind of like climbing Mt. Everest during a major blizzard … of inactivity … where are all the new members ???  Can’t wait for Winter conditions/increased activity.

 

Just found out the my 80/40 meter vertical in back yard wasn’t connected after finding end of coax dangling; so have no idea what I was transmitting on !!! Might have been the dual sloper, but thought it was dead and non-resonant. By my calculations I may have been transmitting on the piece of coax that runs out to switch on tower – what ? Bears further investigation.

 

Spent most of day mowing lawn, doing yard work (Trimming neighbors stupid pine trees which were hitting me in face every time I mowed .  Got new tires on van and had to get tire on lawn tractor repaired because it went flat. Also did a bit of grocery shopping. Was a busy day for me with limited mobility. Radio was at bottom of list today, but managed to squeeze in a couple of contacts.

 

Am still disappointed I didn’t hear a peep out of pontoon mobile this August. 

 

Sure hope 20m gets busy soon…

The pleasure was due to be shared. I have procrastinated for a couple years 
re LOTW as I did not want to spend my ham time with administrative tasks so
I resisted the move.
This year my SteppIR antenna was due for mtce and painting so took it down
mid June.
I then had the pleasure of having 3 instances of hospitalized pnuemonia spanning
seven weeks. This included quite a number of CT scans and transbronchial biopsies.
Naturally this delayed the antenna work. I finally got it back in the air a week ago.
I used the recovery time to get LOTW organised and got myself used to it so I can
upload/download both LOTW & eQSL in a matter of minutes every couple days. I do
not anticipate applying for any LOTW awards so this is just a convenience for those
who do. BTW I use HRD 5.0 Final Free Swiss Build. I also belong to Eur PSK club
es upload to them about twice a year.
Spent about an hour CQing on 20M from 2100Z today and logged nothing.
Time to get the BBQ ready for the steaks tonight.

While propagation certainly rules, some credit must be given to the level of participation and perseverance involved.

From the somewhat limited 7 year history of the KC9UR Pontoon Portable APE, we must credit Bill, N4GBK, with a stellar performance in 2016. Bill chased us until he had us on 8 of the 9 bands we try to activate.

Our own Matt, AK4MK, worked us on 7 bands that year, 2016. Working us on 5 bands that year were Den, W2DEN and Jeff, W3WMU. There were 14 who worked us on 3 or more bands to earn the APE Hunter Certificate. Overall, a pretty good year!

But 2105 set the record with 18 earning the Certificate with 3 or more bands. Bill, N4GBK grabbed us on 6 bands as did Art, WB4MNK. Grabbing us on 5 bands was John, KD4JS.

This year, the perseverance of Rick, N7WE gave him the Top Banana sticker with 5 bands. There were 14 Certificate winners, four of whom had 4 bands.

Ya' gotta' ask, "Who Has More Fun Than A Ham"??

Just ask Jeff, W3WMU who has chased us down for a Certificate for all 7 years!!

You might be able to pull off the rare 11-bander (if they could work all bands)!

(Ron N3CHX and I have occasionally run the bands during a contest--he's about 3 miles away. But we've only done at most 7 bands in a single day, and have never worked the WARC bands or 60.)

Before I get blasted, I understand that band conditions are terrible and also depends on location and antenna and all that good stuff but it wasn’t long ago that at least half my waterfall was full of signals.  So, what happened???  Granted, I have not been on as much as I would like to due health issues in the family and , of course, that all comes first and that is one reason I started going to SKCC on CW and having a blast.  But , lo and behold those other modes (JT8, JT4, etc) are actually squeezing in on the frequencies normally used by CW.    I also understand that nobody owns frequencies but there are areas that generally each of the modes tend to stick to such as PODXS, SKCC, etc — SKCC usually uses between 7050 and 7060 plus others scattered around when that area is fixed.   

 

End of rant (if you want to call it that) — this is just more as an observation and I also know that there are probably many signals I don’t hear like the West Coast and maybe they are all over the bands, who knows.   Anyway, maybe soon the band conditions will improve for all of us and we can maybe enjoy a bit of some good openings again as we have several years ago.
