Bureau QSLs received

Jerry N9AVY

Today a bunch of QSLs came in from W9 ARRL Incoming Bureau where I spent 16 years working my tail off. It was fun, but it had to end because of having to drive miles & miles every month to pick up cards for sorting.

The few cards which came in this month had a lot of date/time errors. Ops seem to be getting sloppy these days. Most errors seem to be conversion to GMT which is so easy if all logs are kept in GMT/UTC.  Times seem to be ending times rather than start times...  I was taught early on to use  Start time of QSO. Thankfully LoTW allows a 30 minute window each side of time.

Guess I'm OCD or just a plain old nitpicker ...  Hi ! Hi !

Re: CORRECTION - Update 2 - Planned August PSK31 Expedition (APE) Activations

stan W9SMR

The corrected time of operation for N6MG is:

August 7th, 12:30 to 24:00 – N6MG

Sorry for the confusion.

Be on the lookout for APEs starting today:

August 4th, 19:00 to 24:00,  20M  -  KK6KMU

TU, Barry for pointing out my continuing time conversion confusion.

Now go catch an APE!!

Wouldn't doubt that lobster was fed to prisoners way back when.  Wealthy folks looked down upon lobster as "poor people's food".

In Wisconsin, it illegal to feed prisoners margarine/oleo and at one time anything that resembled butter, but wasn't, was against the law.  My parents used to smuggle margarine into Wisconsin for our relatives up there.  Emoji

Am sure that there are still laws on the books in other states where certain things are illegal that we would laugh at today.

Primary will be 20 meters, but I can go to other bands for local type stations, and as the propagation permits I'll try higher bands. I definitely will try CQ'n on the higher bands. 17m, 15, 12m and 10m.
I'll start about 0500 Z, +/-, and go all day.

Had not known the prices had gone up so much.  We were paying $7 per pound for soft shells in 2019 fresh off the boat.  Oh well.

Re  being poor peoples' food.  My understanding they used to be fed to prisoners because they were cheap.  Of course no melted butter and such for them.

It is August.  I am operating portable.  I am on an expedition. But this is not my APE yet.  Hope you all will continue to talk to me as I work my way through Maine up to West Quoddy Head Lighthouse.  I've operated 2 days in August from 3 places and worked 5 stations so far.  I plan to get on the air daily in the afternoon or early evening after my travels for the day are done.  Hope to work every day up to the APE dates.  Then I have to boogey home after the 23rd when I get my 366.

I'm looking for APE's and 366er's.  Get on the air and I'll talk to you.

Milt,

Not much forgotten there. Sounds like a blast!

Can you give me a UTC shutdown target time? I invented 24:00 for your Aug. 7 APE.

I will repost an update with your added APE in a few days.

Enjoy!

Stan

Stan,
I'm also going to be operating on Saturday, August 14th, from the Palomar Observatory in the Cleveland National Forest, at 5,617' asl. It's grid DM13.
Primary will be 20 meters, but I can go to other bands for local type stations, and as the propagation permits I'll try higher bands. I definitely will try CQ'n on the higher bands. 17m, 15, 12m and 10m.
I'll start about 0500 Z, +/-, and go all day.
What am I forgetting?

Be on the lookout for APEs starting:

August 4th, 19:00 to 24:00 - KK6KMU
August 7th, 05:30 to 24:00 – N6MG

This looks to be one of the most popular activities this year. This is the most APE activations we have had since 2012 when 10 APEs took to the field.
