Re: Worked a new-to-me 070 number
Mike has stated that I was his only PSK contact this year. Whether or not he gets back on PSK I won't give odds on that. He hasn't been on PSK for many years, but prefers CW, SSTV and RTTY. Sorry to be bearer of sad news. Jerry n9avy

He hasn't been on for years due to computer and/or rig problems. He vey difficult to work because there is about 25 miles between us as well as the Marengo Ridge which is somewhat difficult for RF to get over at times. Plus he's on a vertical and I'm horizontal.
Anyhow, had a great time working #0437 ! Thanks Mike !
BTW, Mike & I have been friends for over 30 years. He got his Extra when I was still messing around as a Tech. Smart fellow who holds 2 Doctorates and is working on a 3rd...

Re: Murphy Strikes Again !
Aaaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhh ! Dang Murphy ! This last couple weeks he got my brand new IC-7300 DOA out of box, my safe lost it combo with Xmas cash locked inside, and finally the remote coax switch went belly up. Oh, and the little Chinese heater which keeps my (coldest in the house) room toasty also went belly up. Beginning to get a strong dislike for Murphy ! Jerry n9avy

PSKfest – Heads Up ! One week away
stan W9SMR
The Ø7Ø Club PSKfest is just 1 week away - 0000 UTC Saturday, 2 January 2021
This is a 1 day, 24 hour event – Friday evening and Saturday in US. Sprint Rules – work as many stations as possible in the allotted time using PSK31 mode.
Work each station once per band. (Same station, same band, is a dupe!)
Open to all licensed radio amateurs. Using 80M thru 10M (No WARC Bands) For Rules and details, Click Here: PSKFest Rules
4 Power Categories: QRP < 5 W
The PSKFest Uploader link will be activated for the Contest. See Rules.
With propagation possibly improving and 5 bands to choose from, you can optimize your luck. It is helpful to post your intentions to QSY on the Reflector. Also, be sure to use PSKReporter and to Spot calls seen. Under current propagation conditions, we need all the help we can get.
Last year there were 90 logs submitted – a very good turnout. Last year’s Top Dawg and 1st in High Power was Bob, KF3AA with 36 states and 21 DXCC multipliers. Four of our members worked 38 States. We had a record 16 non-members competing and submitting logs. Several have since joined the 070. Be sure to tell any and all to join the fun, submit their logs and join us as soon as possible. Let’s see if we can find those open bands.

25 contacts on 20m
Whew ! 20m was a real bear today . Signal would come & go ... mostly go because I missed a bunch of station. The real challenge was KE0CEN/7 who said he was in Iowa which is a tough shot from Northern Illinois because it's close in. Lost quite a few station who called me, but got enough for 25. Milt , N6MG, won the Special Prize for California today ! 73, Jerry N9AVY

Re: ATT: W3HF - Steve - Outlook for 2021?
Stephen Melachrinos
Milt -
I've been mulling this over for a while.
1. So what are my personal goals for 2021?
- I'd like to spend more time on the radio. When propagation was poor, it was easy to "not bother with it because the bands are probably dead." This led to an attitude of only getting on for the 070 events. Especially now that propagation is getting better, I'd like to get on more often.
- Keep up with the LONP chase.
- Upgrade my portable station, specifically the interface. I just fired up a new laptop, and I think it's time to move away from my 20-year-old Rascal with 9-pin serial input. Not planning to change out the radio (FT-817 or -857) yet, but I want to find a simplified solution that doesn't involve a USB-serial converter and separate audio cables. Maybe Tigertronics USB? Something else? (I'm curious about recommendations, by the way.)
- Clean up my callbook collection. I have books scattered around a bit, and not properly stored and indexed, and that makes it hard to use them for research. (For those who aren't familiar with my callbooks, the easiest way to describe them is to point you to the mirror of my old GeoCities web site at http://www.oocities.org/w3hf/index.html . It's a bit outdated--I have a few more books now--but you get the idea.)
2. As for my perspective on the club goals, I need to state that I'm just one person, and there's a management team that tries to work by consensus. So my perspectives do not necessarily represent the club management's consensus, and should not be interpreted as any form of criticism.
- Unfortunately, the biggest goal has to be getting to a point where we have enough software working to manage the club. This is a really big project, and I'm not criticizing at all the efforts of the software dev team. It's a really hard project too, with a lot of features and capabilities for all facets of the club's operation (membership, endorsements, contests, etc.) And doing it solely with volunteers on a part-time basis is extremely challenging. (It would be challenging even for a larger organization with a paid staff.)
- Maintain a level of activity that keeps the membership engaged and growing. (I think we're doing that, but it's hard without the software working.)
- In the mean time, find ways to take on some of the club's operation using alternate processes. Today's Christmas Run with manual validation is an example of that.
3. Finally, I do have to object to the wording in your question. I'm pretty sure I'm not the OLDEST active member, but I will concede (proudly) that I may be the longest-tenured regularly-active member. For the record, yesterday was the 20th anniversary of my joining the club.

Re: Christmas Run 2020 - "Operating Event"
Was tough on this end all evening. Managed to get 5-6 in the log. Up early this morning, and nothing but noise on 80, 40. Thought I would see some early risers but nothing at all. Surprising that I got what I did. Did manage to get Milt in the log, but it was rough. KK6KMU was for some reason strong all evening, could have worked him over and over. Must be using salt water for a ground. Merry Christmas to all. 73, Jim K5SP
