I just got into the digi modes a couple years ago, and I settled on PSK31 and have loved it. I did notice that whenever I went up to 17 and called there was seldom anyone around. I have made just a hand full of contacts on 17. I do work FT8 and have mad many contacts on 17. But I try to keep above .100 because it is "our" freq. I think it was mostly, "hey these guys aren't using it, so lets us use it" As the old saying says, if you don't use it you will lose it.

Probably not, but "venting" feels good. I am hesitant to join another group after cleaning out several groups people urged me to join. There were days I'd wake up and have way too many emails to answer; so, I purged many email accounts that held little interest. Just don't want to start down that road again.
I'm hoping that once the FT8 people tire of the mode, they'll just go away.

I too feel the frustration with FT-8 "taking over" what had been "our" segment of 17m. But I doubt posting our concerns here will do much to change that. May I suggest those of us who feel this is an inappropriate encroachment on the gentlemen's agreement join the WSJT Meteor Scatter and Weak Signal Group https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/wsjtgroup/infoand voice our complaints there?
The group's conversations make for interesting reading - particularly the current thread of Expanding the Watering Hole. Have no doubt - they are coming soon to a frequency we all love and use. Time to make our voice heard!

NU4C - Paul - Completes 366!
He did it! On 10/8 NU4C - Paul - completed his 366. He is only the 21st person of 2570+ members to do so. Congratulations Paul. Well done! Paul had previously completed the 24/7 endorsement. Therefore, he also earned the Clock and Calendar Endorsement for working every day of the year, Leap Day, and every hour block of every day of the week. He is only the 13th person to reach this phenomenal milestone! It wasn't easy but he did it! Please join me in congratulating him on this fine accomplishment! I’m all for everyone getting along and nobody ‘owning’ a frequency, but when they were told (and they have been) that they had chosen anchor frequencies that were already spoken for by gentleman’s agreement, they should have moved their anchors. The fact that they did not makes me think far less of the developer than I might have otherwise. I tried FT8 for a hot 15 minutes, got bored, and uninstalled the software. I don't see the attraction. The FT8 group seems to have chosen frequencies without regard for other users and since it seems to be the hot thing now FT8 users are blanketing those areas. The EU window for Hellschriber uses was 14074 and a couple of weeks ago, I got an email from one of the authors of the article in QST tell me that I should change frequencies since that is now the FT8 frequency. A lot of other digital mode users have reported the same problem with FT8 users invading their normal frequencies. From what I understand, originally the FT8 frequencies would be 2 khz higher that JT65, which would have not caused problems for most other users of the less common digital modes, but somewhere along the line that has changed. The frequencies are included in the software so that’s where the gang has setup. Since the article was published last month it will probably be worse before it gets better. I personally don’t use the mode, although I tried it when it first came out and basically decided that is more my computer talking to your computer rather than ham radio.
