Jerry, I wondered if there was a function in your program like the LoTW and eQsl function in the FT8 program that would flag 070 members.  You answered my question.  Thanks, Geary, KE5IRK

Jerry,
I saw you as you were finishing a QSO with a station, your conversation on the waterfall was going bad.  I did not even get you called before I lost it all.  Not long after I lose the full band, so it was the band.  I too, when I notice other stations on or very close to one I'm on, move.  I'm flexible.  It is a hobby.  I have heard during contest some or local big club get into arguments over a place on the band, exact freq when voice, both claiming to have been there all day.  Big deal, move, have fun.  People will find you.  HI HI

Also, if I've had a QSO with a station who calling CQ on a frequency  I will QSY  to another frequency out of courtesy. Should I hear a station calling me I will ask him to move up/down a bit. I learned this many, many years ago.

Yuuup, you saw me this morning Jim.  Wish I had gotten a little earlier start.  I worked Belgium and Italy, I saw some others but I forget other than Germany I never got a return from.  I worked five east coast stations and one AZ.  I saw Jerry, N9AVY, gave him a call and instead of the band just shifting a little, I totally lost it.  So I've been playing FT8 since, with only 26 so far, kind of slow, most I see I've had a contact with this month already.  HI HI

Special Event Calls and Cards

VA7GEM-1470 <boat.anchor@...>

As some of you recall I had the pleasure of using two special event callsigns for all of 2017.

I used CF7GEM for FT/JT contacts and I used VB7150 for all others. I had to purchase the VB7150 call but CF7GEM was free. I purchased QSL cards for both callsigns, 400 for VB7150 & 200 for CF7GEM. Total outlay was CAD185.00. With the hopes of off setting some of the costs I asked for two green stamps for a QSL card. Postage to USA is CAD1.20 and balance was applied to outlay.

VB7150 Summary:
          3411 contacts made
          72 requests rcvd

CF7GEM Summary:
          4316 contacts made
          28 requests rcvd

8 requests were rcvd without postage included (all USA stns).

Total contacts made was  7,727

Total QSL requests was 100

My math would indicate that this is about 1.3% of contacts wishing cards.

Total exactly 100 requests times CAD0.80 covers CAD80 leaving  CAD105.00 out of pocket.

I am not sure if electronic cards have had a major impact on QSL card exchanges or if just the fact of asking the requester to cover the postage drove the numbers down.

Would I do it again.
Yes I would purchase a special event callsign if available for a full year (unusual).
No I would not purchase special cards but would instead just offer electronic exchange.

Now contemplating if I should re-order more cards for VA7GEM or just go electronic with it as well.

Have fun with this one.
Barry
