Are things picking up?
Just worked Raul - M0ZZM in London England on 40m. First time in 4 years that I've been able to work England on 40m! Maybe there is hope of a Cycle 25.

I'm in Steve's (W3HF) camp: "Most of the time now I keep it up just a little bit--enough to be able to hear the signals but not loud enough that anyone else in the next room can hear it." BTW, Rich, I run my AGC 'off' also. Larry WA7HDZ 070 404

This is me almost to a “T.” I like hearing it at least a little, because I get audio clues that don’t always translate on-screen. I also find PSK-31 to be a pleasing tone. RTTY, on the other hand, is a tone that I find personally abrasive, so if working it, that’s almost always audio off. — David, K9DWR #1604 LONP #255 david@...

I turn up the audio when I am calling CQ so I can do other things around the shack while waiting to hear that *pitch*. Another country heard from, 73 de Eric, KG6MZS

> Do you operate PSK31 with the audio up or audio down? Depends on what I'm doing. - When the kids were asleep (when we still had kids living in the house), it was always audio down.
- When I don't want to disturb my wife, it's audio down.
- When I want an audio trigger when a new signal pops up on my waterfall, it's audio up.
- When I'm in a contest and it's the boring time when no one new is on the band and I start reading a web page in between CQs and I'm not watching the waterfall, it's audio up (and I need to remember my audio frequency to use the audio filter between my ears).
Most of the time now I keep it up just a little bit--enough to be able to hear the signals but not loud enough that anyone else in the next room can hear it.

Was Weird signal? - Now Audio Up or Down?
Ok Jerry, it's a slow Saturday here, so you made me curious.
Lets hear from everyone. Do you operate PSK31 with the audio up or audio down? Personally, I have always done PSK31 with the audio gain all the way counterclockwise. All the info I need is there on the waterfall, and the XYL isn't subject to squeaks, squawks, and warbles. Did I mention static bursts? We get those a lot here in central Florida. I also run with the AGC off and just ride the RF Gain. Think it improves the low signal reception. Am I missing something by not listening? -- Rick - N7WE 070 - #1602

Weird signal ?
This morning I kept hearing the "ding dong" of a door bell while listening to 14070. Thought I was going nuts... then figured out it was just some "ding dong" on the air ! :-)

Re: LOG4OM
B. Smith, N3XL
I have Log4OM V2 successfully logging from FLDGI, but can't get it to Log from N1MM+. I'm staying with V1, as I anticipated. I'm not going to the trouble of submitting a problem report right now, as I'm basically just waiting things out for a JTAlert implementation, and will see if they fixed N1MM by then. Since I have V1 working well for my purposes, I won't be following this very closely.

Re: LOG4OM
B. Smith, N3XL
I have my N1MM+ and FLDIGI programs both feeding logs to Log4OM and will be very cautious about moving to Log4OM V2. I say this because I also have JTAlert feeding logs to Log4OM and saw on the HAMAPPS message board that the new SQLite Log Schema and config files in V2 aren’t compatible with JTAlert, at least for a while and maybe never. So, I suppose there is a fair chance that there will be issues with other programs feeding logs to Log4OM, at least initially. The Log4OM manual is pretty good about describing how to integrate 3rd party programs, so as a minimum, I’ll be checking it out. I really don’t want to move to V2 in a piece meal fashion, when it is easier to wait things out.

LOG4OM
For users of LOG4OM, there is a new version available, LOG4OM V2 Next Gen. There is also a V2 manual available. The new version uses an SQLite file for the log however it is not compatible with the one used in the previous version, so you have to create an ADI file of your old log and copy it to the new SQLite file. Both versions can also be run. I'm sure there will be hurdles and stumbling blocks to overcome so possibly we could use the reflector to help each other to get it running.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, Stan. There are definitely things I could have done to make it easier on you. I’m taking notes on how to make this better, it’s just going to take time to flesh it all out. We will eventually get back to a fully-automated system but it’s slow-going and there are going to be bumps along the way. I’m sure nobody is going to hold a grudge. :-)

For those that would like a peek at what’s being developed and are software-inclined, I’ve created a Github repository where I’m storing all the code for the new scorers and endorsement checker. It’s mostly for my own purposes to keep things sane, but it’s also so that once we get a new system in place, we won’t lose access to it if I get hit by a bus. This will also give full transparency to everyone that wants to understand exactly how a given item is scored. https://github.com/070club/checker If you have any questions/comments/etc, feel free to drop a line, open an issue, etc through the github page 73 — David, K9DWR
