Hi Malcolm !

Nebraska grids are DN92, EN01, and EN02. Guess here are not a lot of active PSK hams in those grids.

Thanks.

Finishing up Maine the other day helped spur on my interest in working grids, but working that last grid was a fluke.  The only was to work on endorsements like grids is to work every station you see on waterfall.  The only 10-10 slogan "If you want results, you got to make contacts" applies here.

PODXS has added a few new members in past months which is a good thing.  Am looking forward to TDW and working a bunch of the newer members !

With not much else t o do today I checked over the Grids I need to finish off a few states. There are 5 states where only 1 grid is needed, 3 states with 2 grids and 4 states with only 3 grids.

Lousy weekend propagation here

Jerry N9AVY

Saturday & Sunday conditions were awful. Signal were 599 one second and would fade to zero the next. Sure hope better conditions soon. Did see a couple EA stations and on one SV9 sneak through but they weren't there long. Also saw some trans-equatorial (Central & South American) propagation.

Need to hear more PSK stations, but never saw more than 2 or 3 at any given time. Of course, local weather was rain all day long which may have had some bearing on these conditions. Usually bands are busier on weekends. Sure hope others had better luck.

Recommended PSK-31 Frequencies

stan W9SMR

Recent discussions have focused on avoiding various FT modes and attempts to establish a foothold in the spectrum for PSK-31 operation.
Back on May 1, Matt - AK4MK posted message #59819 with new suggested freq for 070 Club. Note especially the new frequency for 17M.

070 Club Recommended PSK31 Frequencies

The introduction of FT8 digital mode, particularly in the 17m band, has made it necessary to reevaluate our recommended frequencies for 070 Club PSK31 activities.  Here are our recommendations as of March 30, 2019.

160m 1.807 MHz

80m  3.580 MHz

40m  7.070 MHz

30m 10.140 MHz

20m 14.070 MHz

17m 18.097 MHz

15m 21.070 MHz

12m 24.920 MHz

10m 28.120 MHz

6m 50.290 MHz

Please note: Operating frequencies and emission type are controlled by both the ITU and the regulatory agencies of the Country of operation.  Permitted frequencies for PSK31 mode may vary from those listed above. Always make sure your operation conforms to the regulations for the location from which you are operating!

FT-4's introduction is just going to exacerbate things, I'm afraid. It may be that we have to co-exist among them for now, as there's just not much room on 30m. bandplans.com suggests (in addition to 10.140 for PSK-31) 10.130-10.132.5 for PSK-31, so maybe give that a try.

I'm not sure why they even have designated frequencies on WARC bands considering that it's specifically designed as a mode for contesting, at least from my understanding.

Wherever else you try, just be sure to communicate and coordinate your frequency with others on the reflector in order to maximize the odds of finding a partner at a "new home" on the band.

Hope that helps...

Doug:

Feldhell/Hellschreiber is an 80% duty cycle mode. If you're running a 100 watt rig, you need to run around 60 watts . If you add the other 20 watts it won't make much difference. Only doubling the 60 watts would show any improvement at the other end. Also check you SWR. Both will cause finals to overheat and will eventually damage them. When you run digital modes you need to be aware of duty cycle for that mode and of your transmitter.

Learned my lesson by using solid state amplifier with too much power input. Cost me $500 for 4 new transistors !

I run Feldhell/Hellschreiber using about 50 watts and it seems to work out.
