St. Patrick’s Day Contest 2020 Results

stan W9SMR

Erin Go Bragh !!

St. Patrick’s Day Contest 2020 results are in. A very BIG THANK YOU to David, K9DWR, for again creating the upload link and parsing the results.

This was a 24 hour long contest on all bands 160M to 6M, so we had full flexibility to choose the operating times and frequencies to maximize our results.

In the Medium Power Category, this time, David, KR4U of St. Petersburg, FL found the optimal path. With his 127 QSOs in 31 States and 7 DXCC, along with the “Erin Go Bragh” (EGB) bonus, he eclipsed his completion for Top Dawg!! He even beat runner-up and frequent Top Dawg, Lee, N5SLY, which is hard to do. The Medium Power category third place winner was Robert, KF3AA. He had an amazing 21 DXCC points! The top 3 in Medium Power were the only folks earning the “Erin Go Bragh” Bonus. Figures!!

1st Place in Low Power was Alan, KA5VZG, followed by Jim, K5SP and then Lewis, K4ARE.

The sole entrant in QRP was Peter, NN9K. Working with the limitations of very low power, he collected 75 QSOs and 22 States. He had the 4th highest score of all power categories. He also won 1st place in the QRP category of the Valentines Sprint. Very good job, Peter!!

Winners in each Category are summarized in the table below.

Hard searching led to the only 10M QSO between *Cindy, KE8JNT and Leslie, WA4EEZ. Digging even further, the only 160M QSO was between Jeff, W3WMU and Frank, N4KP.

We were honored to have 3 non-members join us to pass out 71 QSOs. Immediately following the contest, *Cindy, KE8JNT applied for membership and was granted 070 #2736. She is the Mom of 11 year old member Danielle, KE8JNU, #2679.

Many thanks to Cindy as well as John, KC3CNE and Gary, NI8Z for participating. We hope to see you join us soon as members.

Full results will be uploaded to the 070 Club and 070 Club Contest Reflectors. See Groups.io for info on viewing: 070 Email Reflectors

Our next challenge is the 31 Flavors Contest, starting Saturday, April 4th. This is your rare chance to conquer 5 other PSK modes with ample opportunity to compare the sensitivity and speed of these robust digital modes. For details, see 31 Flavors Contest Rules

** Note: If everyone contacted had uploaded a log, then the actual number of “on-the-air QSOs” would be half the “uploaded QSOs” total. (Each party reports the same QSO.) Because many of the contacts were made with non-competing stations, the number of “on-the-air QSOs” is more than half, but not worth figuring out.

CONGRATS - 366 Chasers / Other Endorsements

stan W9SMR

It was inspiring to see the widespread pursuit of the Leap Year Endorsement (February 29) and the chase for the 366 Award. But, it is time to move on. If you missed it, you have time to plan for the next one. Of our 2,736 members, 51 have achieved 366.  Congrats to all!!

The PODXS 070 Contests give a big boost to the LONP chasers and other Endorsements like Work The World (WTW). This one requires lots of time at the Operator’s position. You merely need 2246 specific call signs to spell out various country names. Of our 2736 members, only 38 have achieved it. During this COVID-19 lockdown, it would be a great time to start working it.

After his recent upload of 28,565 QSOs, one of our very active members is now at 2,245 letters of the 2,246 needed. Lee, N5SLY, needs just one “i” to spell “Africa” and to put this one away. Look for it after the 31 Flavors Contest.

See requirements for Work The World at: WTW Rules

A time to be Social at Distance! During the COVID-19 slowdown, if you have some spare time to Ragchew with your fellow Hams, take advantage of the opportunity and grab the Ragchewers 3/30 (RCC) by completing three 30 minute QSOs. Hard to believe that only 441 of our friendly members have qualified.

Our next 070 Contest challenge is the 31 Flavors Contest, starting Saturday, April 4th. This is your rare chance to conquer 5 other PSK modes with ample opportunity to compare the sensitivity and speed of these robust digital modes. For details, see 31 Flavors Rules

To see your Endorsements status, upload your full log and check the "Online Endorsement Checker". Upload at: Endorsement Uploader

PSK-31 Rocks!!

Well, that is what I have been doing is manually making the corrections.  But what I’m wondering is who is updating that file cause I’m sure that David is not

In the interim, you can download that file, edit the offending line by deleting, save the edited file, then upload to your software.  If you need help with this, I will do it for you.

Cindy,

Welcome at last!

We have enjoyed your participation in the Valentine Sprint and St. Pat's Contests. I certainly benefited from your participation, giving me YL bonus points.

We have also enjoyed the participation of your very talented daughter, Danielle, KE8JNU. I'm surprised it took her so long to convince Mom that this was a truly fun group.

We welcome you and look forward to your continued participation! Fellow members, take a peek at Danielle's QRZ page!

For Rules and detailsClick Here: 31 Flavors Sprint Rules

This is one of our most interesting contests.
If you have never tried these different PSK modes, don't be shy.  Jump in and give it a go!

Take your time and be patient.  You’ll be an expert in no time!

Last year, 22 logs were submitted. Lee, N5SLY, won Top Dawg honors and First Place in the 50W category with a spectacular 79 QSOs utilizing all 6 modes, and a score triple that of his closest competitor.

Let’s see if we can give Lee some competition this year !

Hope to work you in all 6 modes
