Re: Grid-pedition to CN98

Paul Butzi (W7PFB)

The plan is set.  I will go up to CN98 tomorrow.  Folks who can’t work tomorrow, do not despair, I will make another trip later this summer.

I plan to be on site by 6/22 2030Z and QRV by 2100Z - a little time to allow for a certain amount of futzing around, as I have not been to the planned site.  If I can arrange things perfectly I might be able to get there earlier but for now that’s the plan.

If the site doesn’t work out plan B is to just drive around until I find a place to set up.

Current plan is to wrap things up around 6/23 0130Z.

I will start on 20m.  Other bands as conditions permit.  I should be in cell coverage and I’ll be looking at pskreporter, etc. to try to judge what seems promising.

Barry, when I at home, I am lucky if I can see your signals on 20m, I think they just go right over my head.  Up in Granite Falls the distance will not be much more favorable, so we may need to get adaptable and creative to make it happen.  That will be fun, I am looking forward to that challenge!

August PSK31 Expedition (APE)

DAVE KB3RAN 1692/381

2020 August PSK Expedition

 (APE)

Orangutan face

To encourage PSK31 operations in the field and to research and gain practical experience in the portable capabilities of the PSK31 mode, the PODXS 070 Club offers to the members the August PSK31 Expedition (APE) Award. The APE Award is offered to any 070 Club member who during the month of August, organizes, sets up, and operates a portable PSK31 expedition which meets all Award requirements.

In order to participate you will submit your planned operations to the APE Manager. The PODXS 070 members will then seek out and make contacts during the planned operations, SPOTS will be made, and then you can also submit a summary of your APE for others to read about.

Is this the year for your APE?  Due to the corona virus shut down preventing many outdoor activities, are you ready to get out and play radio away from home?  This is your chance to explore a new park, forest, shore or campground.  Or just going to a county park and setting up on a picnic table for an afternoon.  You can also visit a new grid square and help activate it for others while getting credit for working it for yourself also.  See “Grid Credit While Operating Away From Home” in the files section at 070Clubgroups.io for the details on submitting your log.

Reports of past APE’s are now posted on the PODSX070 website under Tall Tales.  Read some of these stories and get ideas about doing your own expedition this year.  I’m looking forward to hearing your plans. And available to help with operating tips. Personally, my planned APE to Newfoundland for 2020 has been postponed until next year.  Look for my plan for a regional APE to a mountain not too far away soon.

Congrats to all those with new endorsements!  And thanks to all who played...even if you didn't pick up a new endorsement, you helped fellow 070 members!

Yup, pretty much the same here.  I did have one nice QSO on 30m with station I’ve talked with before in Washington.  No 070 # but I did give hime the sales pitch :)

Another country heard from, (or not, as the case may be)

Re: Contacts today

Conditons were tough, but I had fun!  So even though I had only a few Qs, it was a success.  Spent most of my limited time on WARC bands and ended up with just 8 Qs.  4 on 30m, 1 on 17m, and 1 on 12m.  Plus 1 on 40m and 1 on 20m - both non-members who got the 070 Club spiel.  They promised to check us out, so maybe a couple of new members.  Was hoping to pick up a lot of newer members for LONP points, but only saw a couple and couldn't work them.  Hope prop improves before our next Endorsement Daze!

Tomorrow I'm hoping to catch Paul - W7PFB/P on his Grid-pedition to CN98.  It's a long haul from central Florida to the Pacific Northwest, but we did manage it during his shakedown outing.  CN98 will be from a different location than the shakedown, so we'll see.  Check out his earlier messages here on the group about his plans.  If I can log him, it will complete WA for me!  That would be a biggie in my quest for grids!  So hope to see you on the waterfall Paul!

Re: Fldigi & Aclog

Tim Castagnola

It appears to have been a software issue.  I found the 4.1.12 version of Fldigi setup in my downloads folder and re-installed it.  Running that version took care of all of my problems, I am not sure why but I am happy to be back on the air.
