Re: VE1CDD/VY2

Corrections:

He's really around 14070.7 or so. Sorry.

FN87 on PEI is a little larger than I guessed. It's about half a mile wide, three miles long.

It may not be an APE, but John VE1CDD is operating from a very rare grid, FN87, on PEI. There's probably only about 100 sq ft of land in that whole grid square, and he found it. (He's in FN87aa to be precise.)

He's on 14070.2 or so, with a decent signal (from a Buddipole near his tent/truck combo).

Ken,
Congradulations on your fine signal, the DX you worked and a successful operation!
But, the fact remains, it isn't rumor, or an opinion. All caps does use more varicode making it harder to copy. Signal strength is a factor, of course, but even with strong signals it's harder for a computer to encode and decode and makes your signal more susceptible to qsb, qrn and any abnormal phase shift on both ends of a qso.
Good luck later in the month.

Melt,
Sorry for the all Caps, but when I set up MixW for the APE that was how I
did it. Don’t know were you are located, but most folks told me I had a
strong signal and solid copy. That ranged from Canada to LU6EE in Argentina,
our east coast to west coast. I will give that some consideration the
next one later this month. Sorry for your troubles in coping me. Time to
start calling CQ. 14.070.5

W6QE & W0PE: W6R APE Operation

Sly G <w6qe@...>

Just a reminder that me and Fred's APE is coming up, starting this Sunday, August 15th. We've applied for and been issued a special 1X1 call, W6R. Fred's had some very nice color qsl cards printed and we look forward to a successful operation. We'll have a full size G5RV, configured in a flattop at about 40', at 6000'+ elevation from Running Springs, Ca. in the San Bernardino Mtns. The radio will be a Kenwood, TS-480SAT at about 35 watts.
Bands of operation will follow the propagation. We will be on the low bands at night and higher freq's in the daylight hours and at grey line.
We'll be spotting our activity here on the reflector and Telnet.
See how many bands you can work us on? Dupes are welcome, as it tells us where the propagation is.
Now, with a little luck, all of this will come together!
Milt.

A.P.E. ON 8/27 8/28

kc9iis <kc9iis@...>

HI All,

I am planing my 2010 APE for 8/27 and 8/28 on 20M and 40M using my home call of KC9IIS. I should be up and logging contacts by 20:00 UTC on the 27th to 04:00 UTC. I will be using my trusty FT-897 and two sets hamstick dipoles one on each band and a g5rv. I will be on or very near to the following frequency's. 7.070-7.073 and 14.070-14.073. ON 8/28 I am coordinating a 300 rider bicycle ride SAG stop for those who know what that is and Contacts Will be during a low in the event. I will be hit and miss on the 28th from 07:00 UTC to 21:00 UTC when I pack it in and move on down to the INDY MOTO GP Race on Sunday.

FYI :W9IMS(Official Indy 500 Ham Station) has nice QSL cards for every race and will be on the Air 8/25-8/29 on multiple bands and from a communications center that we would all love to have.

Here is the details of my APE location.

The Location is on the "TRAIL OF DEATH"

Independence, Indiana - Cicott's Trading Post Park. GPS N-4020290 W-8709884.

This huge boulder with words sandblasted in it tells about the Trail of Death traveling on this road through Independence. It is located east of town at the site of the Cicott's trading post, which is now a county park. Zachariah Cicott founded a trading post here in 1816. He was married to a Potawatomi woman and so his children received treaty land. He sold town lots and founded the town of Independence in 1832. He is buried in the town cemetery and is remembered as a man who loved to dance and gamble, hold long and loud parties, and who had an eye for a pretty girl. He died in 1850. The townspeople imagine that Zachariah sat on his porch and watched the Potawatomi go by in 1838 on the forced emigration that became the Trail of Death. The marker was erected by John Henry and Warren County Park Board in 1993. (Photo by Bill Willard, Rochester, Indiana, on Trail of Death caravan, 2003.)

I Hope To Contact you all in a few weeks.
