2021 RC3 Championship Standings

stan W9SMR

The Drama Continues!!

The results of the Triple Play Low Band Sprint are in and the intense competition for Top Dawg in the 2021 Rollo Cup Contest Championship (RC3) continues, with Bob, KF3AA clinging to 1st place and Lee, N5SLY jumping into 2nd place. John, KC3FL slips to 3rd place

Evidently, even without a 160M antenna, Lee has the determination to devote the time and skill to win the Triple Play Top Dawg, hands down.

The table below shows the Top Ten finishers through all our contests to date.

Track Bob, John and Lee below as each of the contests completed.

Do not count any of these skilled contesters out!! We have only 1 PODXS-070 Contest on the calendar yet to be fought out. With only 31 points separating the top 3, anybody could take the crown!

In 2019, the first year of the RC3 challenge, N5SLY placed first. In 2020, KC3FL finished first and N5SLY got second place. KF3AA got 4th place.

Hang onto you hats, it’s going to be a dazzling finish!

The Top Dawg in the Rollo Cup Contest Championship will receive a special certificate, a Rollo Dog Tag, and an Engraved Silver Revere Cup Trophy.

Check out your standing on the full 2021 RC3 Leader Board following the Triple Play Low Band Sprint at:  RC3 Leaderboard

We hope you enjoy this “Race for the Rollo Cup!”

Congrats to all our Contest warriors!

Re: TRIPLE PLAY LOW BAND SPRINT - RESULTS

Eric Dallmann

I'm running a full 160-meter dipole on this end.  I managed to get it up the Friday of the contest.  I didn't do so well with the end fed wire in the Great Pumpkin Spring (yes it was 2nd place, but only 1 qso).  I'm not sure this antenna does any better, but there seemed to be more activity on the band.  A good number of those stations were close in, which was good given that my 160-meter antenna is lower than the one I used on 40- and 80-meters.  Picking up WA5AMM at the end of the contest was a big bonus.

I'm looking forward to next weekend.

RESULTS - TRIPLE PLAY LOW BAND SPRINT – 2021

This year there were 43 logs submitted – down from last year’s 45 logs. There were 11 High Power, 11 Medium Power, 17 Low Power and 4 QRP logs submitted. There were 1,075 total logged QSO’s.  552 on 40M, 488 on 80M and only 35 on 160M.

Top Dawg and 1st in High Power was Lee, N5SLY, of Sherman, TX with a record breaking 85 QSOs and 3936 points, AND NOT ONE 160M QSO!!  Lee knew going in that the odds were stacked against him without a 160M antenna. But his grit and persistence paid off!! Lee is currently in 3rd place in the RC3 Championship race.  How will he do having this great comeback?

High Power - Second Place was Bob, KF3AA of Huntingtown, MD, with 2640 points. Bob also had the highest number of 160M QSOs, at 7. Bob is currently in 1st place in the RC3 Championship race. Third place was John, KC3FL of Inverness, FL with 2214 points. John is currently in 2nd place in the RC3 Championship race.

Medium Power - First place was Buz, WA5AMM of Easley, SC with the second highest score of 3,094 points. Buz has played in 6 of our contests this year and currently ranks 13th in the RC3 Championship race.

Medium Power – Second Place was grabbed by Stan, W9SMR of Sarasota, FL, with 2288 points. Third Place went to Roger, N8TCP of Parma Heights, OH with 1407 points. Roger placed 3rd in the Great Pumpkin 80M Sprint.

Low Power – First Place Steve, W3HF, Collegeville, PA, with 2375 points. Steve managed to find three 160M QSO’s to give him a 4th place overall score.

Low Power - Second Place went to Stephen, KO4CVU of Lebanon, TN with 510 points. Third Place went to Harry, N6TE of La Jolla, CA with 486 points.

QRP Power – First Place went to Eric, K9VIC of Plainfield, IL with 2,808 points. This is an exceptional performance given his six 160M QSOs. How does he stay above the noise on 160? Eric placed 2nd in QRP in the Great Pumpkin Contest.

QRP Power 2nd place went to Rich, AC8NM of Lisbon, OH with 1,075 points.  QRP Power 3rd place went to Steve, VA3FLF of Fort Erie, ON with 945 points. That’s a great achievement on these low bands these days.

Below find the top 3 finishers in each power category.

We again are deeply indebted to David, K9DWR, who established the upload link and parsed the contest results. Thank You, David!

The new “All Amateurs Welcome” policy continues to enhance our overall experience. We had 3 non-members submit logs. In High Power, Steve, NR3I of Wilmington, DE; got 663 points. Steve also played in the St. Patrick’s Day Contest. In Low Power, Andy, K9AWM of Washington, IN got 84 points. In Low Power, James, AB8SF of Plainwell, MI got 153 points. We hope to see membership applications for all of you.

Note that the Top Dawg Certificate and Rollo Dog Tag will be reserved exclusively for members.

Thanks to all who submitted logs. Stickers will be in the next mailing.  Complete results will be uploaded to the Groups.io site under FILES/CONTEST RESULTS 2021 at:  FILES/CONTEST RESULTS 2021

This is a 3 day event – Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings in US

Sprint Rules – Work a 6 hour block each UTC Date. For Scoring, your 6 hour block will start with the hour you select on the Scoring page and continue for the next 6 hours. You may have only one “Block” or “Block Portion” on a given UTC date.

NOTE  that any start time of 1800 or later will end at 2359 that UTC day, so those times are consolidated into a single "1800-2300" start time selection in the Contest Scorer.

Work each station once per band - DURING THE ENTIRE CONTEST PERIOD..

Open to all licensed radio amateurs. Using 40M, 80M and 160M.

Call: “CQ 070 Sprint”

All entry logs
must be uploaded within 1 week after the event ends. See Uploader Link in Rules.

This event will again test your ingenuity and stealthy antenna talents. But with 3 bands to choose from, you can optimize your luck with propagation.

This event will also decide the ultimate winner of the annual RC3 (Rollo Cup Contest Championship). The RC3 has been a tight competition for the last several years. This year promises to be another squeaker !

And it will again be worth pursuing, in order to grab that Top Band Endorsement Sticker with 20 QSOS on 160M. Only
44 of our 2,810 members have earned the Top Band Sticker.

And 160M QSOs count as 3 points each.

Especially for help in grabbing a few 160M QSOs, it is helpful to post your intentions to QSY on the Reflector. Bob, KK6KMU, has set up a Triple Play Low Band Sprint CHAT GROUP on the Main Groups.io site. Subscribe to that for an active helping hand. Also, be sure to use PSKReporter and to Spot calls seen. We need all the help we can get.

This is one of our most popular contests. Last year 49 logs were submitted. Top Dawg and 1st in High Power was John, KC3FL of Inverness, FL, with a record breaking 110 QSOs (7 on 160M) and 5476 points.

Let’s see if we can beat that turnout.

365 Need Dates – December/January

stan W9SMR

Wow!! It is amazing how the enthusiasm continues to grab that 365/366 Endorsement. It is a tough one, only 59 members have done it.

Congrats, to our latest successful members !!

Congrats to Ruud, PA3EEG, grabbed his only need date, November 11.

So far in 2021, Dave, KB3RAN, Alan, KA5VZG, Geary, KE5IRK; Mary, KC4TIE; Dave, VE7BGD, John, KG5OIB and Ruud, PA3EEG have completed the challenge.

And be on the lookout for Yuri, R6KEE who needs only December 15.

Good job Bob, KK6KMU, who picked off 2 needed dates in October. Harry, K9HW grabbed his 3 needed dates. Bob, KF3AA grabbed his 5 needed dates. Steve, VA3FLF picked up 4 November dates. Continuing the quest is Joe, K3YES who now needs only 25 dates after grabbing 18 dates in November. Again, a special note of encouragement to Bob, K4VBM who, although he needed over 200 dates, has been valiantly picking up every needed day in July, August, September, October and November. He still needs 146 including 27 in December and 23 in January, but I know he will finish it off. He is on a rampage!

In the table below, I have shown December and January need dates for those members needing fewer than 60 days total. These are the folks really getting close. Be sure to look for them.

I will publish this table periodically as the time approaches. Best of luck and good Propagation to boot! Please verify your own need dates as I may have missed some.

To see what dates you need, upload your full log and check the "Online Endorsement Checker". In the "In Progress" section, click on "Target" for the 360 category and a list of needed dates will show. If you have a problem seeing that, please just let me know.

A helpful hint from Alan, KA5VZG is to check each day around 2345Z and hang around until after 0000Z to see if you can pick up two days. Be sure to call CQ 365 to make your needs known.

The new 365 Chat that KB3RAN set up should be a big help in coordinating. For the 365 Chat, follow this link: 365 Chat Group
