Re: PSK31 Power Levels
I tried a number of these cheap USB key sound devices designed for VoIP and while they do work, their receive audio from these things are terrible. The devices based on the AC97 chip are also crap,

Re: PSK31 Power Levels
Wonder if the output from sound card is over driven (distortion !); then, wouldn't the input (mic gain) to the transmitter be distortion as well regardless of where the RF power out setting is

This method is what my rig's Operating Manual specifies for SSB operation, including setting the output power level.

Re: PSK31 Power Levels
Sorry Mike, but you are out to lunch on this one. Setting the power level to maximum then adjusting the audio drive for the proper power level/ALC level is the proper way to adjust a PSK

Re: PSK31 Power Levels
Well, people should do what works best for them. However, as Mike K6MKF said, setting the output power by adjusting the audio input probably isn't the best way to do it, as has already been pointed

Not quite sure I understand this process completely. If my output power is set to max and I adjust the mic control so I have 50 watts output with no ALC action, it would appear that all is

Now I am chuckling.
Just had QSO with fellow in CO. I was running 4W. Comment was nice clean signal but strongest on the waterfall, blacking out all the other signals.
Oh well think I will just stick

Barry,
The method you describe is the one I was told to use when I was a 'newbie'.
I was talking to a fellow in CA. on PSK31, and he sent me instructions on how to set my kevels.
