So who all used a computer to log the PSKFest? Any good/bad experiences to
relate? I used W3KM's Gen Log. First time I had ever used a computer logger,
and except for a glitch that I may have caused myself, the program worked fb!

Re: DXCC - PSK-31

IT will only be a little time until someone does it. I have like 85 DXCC contacts and I know there are folks out here with a lot more than me.

So we should hear about it soon, but getting the carsa will that may never happen

Hi Steve,

As Kostas replied on another message the band opens up soon after
noon (local) and starts to close before sundown.
I'm usually available for scheduled QSO on weekends, Sundays prefered.

You know, I don't have the SV tri-band endorsement either :-(
We can schedule a contact if you like and get you the
endorsement...

That would be very kind of you. Since I have never heard a SV on
15m, I do not know when the band might be open from SV to the
US east coast. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi Steve, 21 MHz opens at about 1200 UTC and closes
after our local sunset. Recently I had:

15:03 UTC W1SQL
16:23 UTC N3JWJ
18:01 UTC VE3IAY

Signals on 21 MHz are not as strong as on 28 MHz.
I use this band regularly, as I have a lot of noise
on 14 MHz, but I have a poor antenna (a multiband
vertical with very short radials).

Yahoo! Just worked DU3NXE in Bataan, Philipines! Was pretty rough
copy, but was able to make the exchange. 10m @ 0145. I had worked a
few south pacific stations in the past, but never Philipines, so it
was quite a rush for me. I keep hoping for Guam one day...my brother
is stationed there-- he's not a ham (unfortunately) but it would be
cool to pass a message to him. Anyone on the list work Guam on psk?

Unfortunately I haven't worked much in the Pacific from here in PA,
but I did work NG1P/KH2 last July while I was QRV in California.

I only heard him that one day, but he is apparently USAF stationed
there.

P.S. He QSLs quickly, direct, and it's a US territory, so only a 34-
cent stamp each way.

Re: RTTY Software

Beischel <wb8nut@...>

I use both MixW and Hamscope for RTTY. Both work like a champ and
are very easy to set up. I also had trouble with MMTTY and gave up.
Hamscope is free and MixW has a reasonable registration fee.

Okay, guys, here's an off-topic question:

What do you use for sound-card-based RTTY (if you use it)? This is
triggered by the fact that KG4DX last week, and VP8THU today
seem to be only on RTTY, and not PSK.

I've been trying for a few days now to get MMTTY to work, and I
don't seem to get it. I must be doing something wrong, but for the
life
of me I can't figure it out.

I'd like something as easy to use as Digipan.

I've discussed this privately with one or two of you, but I'd like
a few
more opinions. Thanks.

Re: Korean email

I haven't used it for Korean, but I have used that site for French and
Italian. Although I had taken French in high school, I used it because
I hadn't done anything in French in years. I used it on a
sentence-by-sentence basis (or even phrase-by-phrase), and then
manipulated the phrases myself. (I did remember SOME things, but it's
easier when the basic vocabulary is given to you.) This morning I
received a reply from FK8GX complimenting me on my excellent French.
:-)

I did admit to him that I had help.

Re: RTTY Software

Sean \(G4UCJ\) <g4ucj.shack@...>

Hi all, I have to agree with you Erika, MixW is a fine piece of software, it
has great support and is constantly being developed via feedback from users.
Apart from the TX/RX side, I use it as my main logging program now.
I have only just discovered how to send CW via the soundcard (if I get
really lazy!). Just as a thought, if you own one of the older Icom rigs
(i.e. 706,746,756) and have a CW filter installed, they can be tricked into
giving you the CW bandwidth on SSB. This has probably been chewed over
before, but it really does help if you can narrow the bandwidth and improve
the signal to noise ratio. With my 756 I have a narrow 1.8 SSB filter at
455kHz (FL222) and a 250Hz CW filter at 9MHz (FL101). I programmed the menu
to think the 9MHz was an FL223 (the 9MHz narrow SSB filter) and it now uses
the narrow CW filter on SSB. OK I've lost the use of one of the SSB filters
(I've kept the wide one selected, for obvious reasons), but that doesn't
seem to be a problem. For us that are stuck with modest stations, every bit
of help is welcomed!!

I'm using MixW for PSK and RTTY and all the other digi modes.. , it is
easy
to work with and it needsjust a mouse click to switch from one mode to the
other but it is not for free, that is the only disadvantage.

Thanks to a QSO with HP8AJT earlier today,
I now have 100 DXCC countries in PSK-31.
Before I had Panama only in SSB as HK3JJH/HP1.
I hope in 2-3 years to receive the QSL
cards as well.
