Thanks for the info on the translator web sites.  I translated and I am still uncertain of what it was about.  I think it was a solicitation.

Thanks agn.

Re: Korean email

I haven't used it for Korean, but I have used that site for French and
Italian. Although I had taken French in high school, I used it because
I hadn't done anything in French in years. I used it on a
sentence-by-sentence basis (or even phrase-by-phrase), and then
manipulated the phrases myself. (I did remember SOME things, but it's
easier when the basic vocabulary is given to you.) This morning I
received a reply from FK8GX complimenting me on my excellent French.
:-)

I did admit to him that I had help.

Re: RTTY Software

Sean \(G4UCJ\) <g4ucj.shack@...>

Hi all, I have to agree with you Erika, MixW is a fine piece of software, it
has great support and is constantly being developed via feedback from users.
Apart from the TX/RX side, I use it as my main logging program now.
I have only just discovered how to send CW via the soundcard (if I get
really lazy!). Just as a thought, if you own one of the older Icom rigs
(i.e. 706,746,756) and have a CW filter installed, they can be tricked into
giving you the CW bandwidth on SSB. This has probably been chewed over
before, but it really does help if you can narrow the bandwidth and improve
the signal to noise ratio. With my 756 I have a narrow 1.8 SSB filter at
455kHz (FL222) and a 250Hz CW filter at 9MHz (FL101). I programmed the menu
to think the 9MHz was an FL223 (the 9MHz narrow SSB filter) and it now uses
the narrow CW filter on SSB. OK I've lost the use of one of the SSB filters
(I've kept the wide one selected, for obvious reasons), but that doesn't
seem to be a problem. For us that are stuck with modest stations, every bit
of help is welcomed!!

I'm using MixW for PSK and RTTY and all the other digi modes.. , it is
easy
to work with and it needsjust a mouse click to switch from one mode to the
other but it is not for free, that is the only disadvantage.

Thanks to a QSO with HP8AJT earlier today,
I now have 100 DXCC countries in PSK-31.
Before I had Panama only in SSB as HK3JJH/HP1.
I hope in 2-3 years to receive the QSL
cards as well.

What do you use for sound-card-based RTTY (if you use it)?
I managed to get MMTTY up and running and I'm not the greatest with
the learning curve Steve! Did you remember to put another quarter in the
slot?? Jay N3DQU.
No, Jay, my computer only eats zip disks. hi hi (Actually, it did until
I replaced the drive. Click of Death they called it.)

Just a few minutes ago I figured out that the RTTY convention is
LSB on all bands, and my digital mode interface into the 817
defaults to USB. Took me a while to make the connection. So I have
had my mark/space inverted all the time. A click of the REV button
and I managed to start decoding a little.

Fortunately PSK is symmetrical, and insensitive to USB/LSB
conventions. (Not true of QPSK, though. That's why there's an Invert
selection in the PSK software.)

Okay, guys, here's an off-topic question:

What do you use for sound-card-based RTTY (if you use it)? This is
triggered by the fact that KG4DX last week, and VP8THU today
seem to be only on RTTY, and not PSK.

I've been trying for a few days now to get MMTTY to work, and I
don't seem to get it. I must be doing something wrong, but for the life
of me I can't figure it out.

I'd like something as easy to use as Digipan.

I've discussed this privately with one or two of you, but I'd like a few
more opinions. Thanks.

PSKFEST - great fun!

Charlie Trice, K8IJ <k8ij@...>

Hi folks,

Thanks to all for the PSKFEST - the QSOs, the management and all the great fun.

My stats/comments:

Total QSOs = 196
Dupes = 7 (Was the dupe with Steve, N6YIH/7 a test???)
States = 41
DX = 19

Ran 30 watts with a vertical.

1st highpoint: working KA3X and N3DQU back to back.
2nd highpoint: finally snagging HI when Rick, KH7O called me.

Worked all 4 PODXS fellas and worked WB5NHL, K0CIE and VE3IAY each 3 times - thanks!

Worked only Ontario in VEland.

I still think RST is a waste of time.  I'm still not sure how it applies to PSK31 anyway.  Exchanging names makes it more personal, even in the hit and run environment of a contest.

Would I do it again?  You bet!

Vy 73,

Chas, K8IJ

I was trying to get to the website to check this but it can't hit it at all. I'm adding up my scores for the PSKFEST and wonder if the US and Canada also count as multipliers for a US station.

Anyone know?

Yeah Joe, they count, not to mention HI and AK as DXCC entities. Steve is adjusting the scores to reflect this if not already taken. AOL is doing "things" with their servers, even I haven't been able to get up to my own website hi! Jay N3DQU.

Re: eQSL (was Digital DXCC)

Steve W3HF

FWIW, I am both registered and "Authenticity Guaranteed." AG
doesn't cost anything--you only have to email a scan of your
license. But to be eligible for their awards (eDX100, etc) you do
have to have made a financial contribution.

Like most, I also prefer paper QSLs. I try to QSL all DX contacts,
and will respond to anyone domestically who requests a card. (I also
send directly, without request, a card to anyone who says it's their
first PSK QSO.) But at least there is one award that does accept
eQSLs, and that is PODXS's own DPX award. For that reason, I
have started going through my log and submitting eQSLs for prefixes
for which I don't have the paper version.

Digital DXCC

Duncan <zl3jt@...>

de Jungle Telegraph
I have 161 DX Entities worked on psk, and 78 confirmed to date. Erika...you can retrieve
your eqsls without being a member... Go to the site www.eqsl.cc and follow the instructions.
You will need to confirm your log entries in order to retrieve your card. You can
then download the ones you want.
Of Course the 'Committee' will not accept eqsls..(YET).. but they are less prone
to 'cheating' than any other method of confirmation.
The costs for QSLing rear the ugly heads, once again!
But it does keep people employed....would be OK if all were returned....

I believe registering with eqsl is free.  I am registered but not “authenticated” .  I have not paid a dime so far.  I enjoy receiving the eqsl’s but would rather have the “real thing”.  I will probably get the authenticity guaranty some time in the near future and maybe upload my own card.
