Merry Xmas & Happy 2002

John van Eijndt KC0DEB

Hello everyone,

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Dxfull 2002! I'll be off the air for awhile (Involuntarily) during our vacation to the "Old Country", to spend the Holidays with the family in Holland. ( The rig I was planning to bring went haywire....)
I will be visiting an old HAM friend of mine, and maybe we can sneak off to the shack to make some Q's on PSK31...hihi I'll keep you posted hr on the forum, if/when we can pull that one off..
Enjoy the Holidays, and I will see you all again in January!

Erika/Jay -

I have seen (but unfortunately not worked) the following DE stations
on 20m PSK:

K3FSP
KE3ZZ
N3HND
W3IJ

I have also seen the "wrong" side of a QSO with

KS3E
KW3Z

I emailed directly to Lenny, but I too would be interested in both DE
and HI contacts on 20m PSK.

And if we can't find anyone already IN Delaware, I've considered a
mini-DXpedition there to give all you folks some QSOs. The DE
border is about 50 miles away from home here, so it wouldn't be too
bad. I'd rather wait until the weather is a little warmer, though, as I
might have to set up in the outdoors. I could take a laptop and the
PSK-20 pretty easily, and maybe string up a dipole.

As for Montana, Erika, you might try N7LT. Lyndel is a friend who
would be willing to run a sked. AE7RN is a new-to-PSK op (I was his
first QSO a few weeks ago). KC7YGI and KD7FVR have also been
seen, though many months ago.

73,
Steve
W3HF

K3FSP from DE is active on PSK, was just on 20 meters. His e-mail
address is:
hayesdickerson@aol.com

Good luck with that one, I'm chasing after Montana, isn't anyone going
for Christmas to MT ? 73's Erika/DL2AYL

Lenny,
If you find any Delaware stations on PSK, how about letting me in on
it. I've been looking for one of them all year. Even when I was in
Baltimore,
I
never heard one.

Hi Jay,
Be my pleasure to hook you up with any Delaware stations that come my way. Your not the only station that has wrote me asking for the same thing. I've been on PSK for over two years now and have never seen a Delaware or Hawaii station on the water fall here on the East coast.
Have a great holiday and I'll drop you a line if I get any takers.
Regards,

Jay -

Actually, the ARRL DXCC list is not the best list for ALL prefixes. Its purpose
is simply to define the entities. For example, you won't find the EM prefix
(used by Ukraine, primarily for Antarctica), the ZX prefix (Brazil, mostly
special event I think), the 3E (Panama), CQ (Portugal), TM (France), 7J-7N
(Japan), and probably many others. You won't even find the very common
VA for Canada. Under the ARRL list, only BY and BT are listed for "China"
(PRC), and we all know that there are other prefixes. (BA and BD come to
mind.)

A more complete list of prefixes is found in the ARRL Operating Manual. But
my copy (vintage 1996) simply says "China" for BAA-BZZ. So other sources
must be used to segregate the two political entities.

Based on the contributions of all the 070ers on this list, Steve N6YIH/7
compiled the following list of 12 Taiwanese stations that someone has either
worked or heard:

BN0W
BQ9P
BV1YA
BV4DC
BV4QI
BV4VE
BV8BC
BX4AAC
BX4AG
BX5AA
BW0N
BW0TCC

As you can see, only 5 of the 12 have a BV prefix. But I think we have
documented that BX, BW, BN, and BQ are all Taiwanese stations. They are
listed under the HamCall server as Taiwan, in addition to identifying
themselves that way.

NG3K's DXCC page lists alternate prefixes for many countries. Under "BV
Taiwan" he also lists "BM-BQ, BU, BW, BX" which is consistent with the
above. (See http://cpcug.org/user/wfeidt/Dxcc/dxccas.html)

I think it's pretty clear that BV is just an abbreviation for Taiwan in general,
and not intended to be the only prefix, just like we might say DL to mean
Germany (when all of DA-DR would count) or ON for Belgium (when they
actually include ON-OT).

Just my humble contribution.

Steve
W3HF

Looking to set up a PSK schedule on 20Mtrs with any Delaware or

out.

Yep, looks like you are right Steve. According to the Chinese Taipei ARL website < http://www.ctarl.org.tw/ > the Taiwan prefixes are B plus M, N, O, P, Q, U, V, W,  or X. So poo on the ARRL DXCC list! Jay.

Re: BV Survey

Correction, I listed all the different calls that were on the e-mail.

I have only worked 3 total BV4VE, BV8BC, BX4AG (worked BV8BC 3 times)
wish I had worked all 12 on the list.

And here I was, incredibly impressed at your marvelous
achievement!

But according to the stats I've seen, even three isn't shabby! And
you still have 13 more days to find a few more. Now that I'm back
home in PA, it looks like I won't see my total increase.

B Prefixes

Duncan McMahon <zl3jt@...>

de Jungle Telegraph
I don't want to create an international incident, but I have a copy of 'Call Sign
Directory' by Hans Schwarz, published in Germany 1996. I know things can change but
the allocation of 'B' prefixes from this book is as follows:
BA to BN Peoples Republic of China (PRC), the number and suffix can indicate the
area in China; BO to BQ Taiwan, (Special stations): BR to BU, PRC (Special stations
e.g. BS7H for Scarbrough Reef): Now here's the fly in the oil! BW to BX, PRC Allocated
to foreigners: and last but not least, BY to BZ, PRC Club stations, or 'co-operators'
of club stations.
Now the fact that people have worked BW and BX and been told that the station is
in Taiwan, makes me think that the PRC or ITU must have re-allocated this sub section?
Is Hans Schwarz wrong? Or was the station in which country to avoid...ah! problems?

However the website may be more accurate...but never take anything on the web as
gospel...Hi! 73s

I just checked the "suspect" calls from my list (BX4AAC, BX5AA,
BN0W, BW0N, and BW0TCC) on the HamCall web server.

All but BN0W showed up with Taiwan addresses. BN0W showed up
as being assigned to Taiwan (based on the indicated flag), but
without a direct address (QSL via BV5KI).

Maybe not definitive, but more information.
