Endorsement Assistant

Jim K5SP

It is unfortunate news that our current Endorsement Manager, Jerry N9AVY, is undergoing some major health issues that will hinder his ability to research and approve members endorsement requests.

Jerry is in our prayers for his health to be restored quickly, and his life returned to normal. (for Jerry).

I am seeking a volunteer that will work with Jerry, learn the approval process, and fill in for Jerry when needed.

If you are interested put your name in the hat now.

Triple Play Low Band Sprint – Tomorrow

stan W9SMR

The Ø7Ø Club TRIPLE PLAY LOW BAND SPRINT is TOMORROW

Saturday, November 13 - 0000 UTC

to

Monday, November 15 - 2359 UTC

Sprint Rules – This is a 3 day event. Work a 6 hour block each UTC Date. For Scoring, your 6 hour block will start with the hour you select on the Scoring page and continue for the next 6 hours. You may have only one “Block” or “Block Portion” on a given date.

Work each station once per band during the contest. (Same station, same band, different day is a dupe!)

Open to all licensed radio amateurs. Using 40M, 80M and 160M.

For Rules and detailsClick Here Triple Play RULES

Frequencies: - 1.807 / 1.838 MHz (Europe). 3.580, 7.070 / 7.040 / 7.035 (Europe) MHz

4 Power Categories
:

QRP < 5 W
Low < 25 W
Medium < 50 W
High < 100 W

Exchange:
  State/Province/Country (SPC)    eg: “W9SMR  FL”

Call: “CQ 070 Sprint”

All entry logs
must be received within 1 week after the event ends. Upload at Uploader Link shown in rules.

This event will again test your ingenuity and stealthy antenna talents. But with 3 bands to choose from, you can optimize your luck with propagation.

And it will again be worth pursuing, in order to grab that Top Band Endorsement Sticker with 20 QSOS on 160M. Only 44 of our 2,800 members have earned the Top Band Sticker.

And 160M QSOs count as 3 points each.

This is one of our most popular contests. Last year, 45 logs were submitted. Let’s see if we can beat that turnout.

Re: QRN Any Ideas?

Stephen KO4CVU

Steve,

If you haven’t already watched a series of YouTube videos about radio interference on RASA’s channel https://youtu.be/bkCvjyjKtpc , you might pick up some good pointers. I built one of those non-resonant loops that is described in one of their videos. When my RFI was at the worst, I was able to trace most every run of romex in the house with the loop and my radio. The ones through the attic to the A/C heat exchangers were the worst. Like yours, my interference would come and go. Wouldn’t you know it, I had strung up a dipole in the attic that run roughly parallel with those 220 volt lines! I am confident that the interference was coming in on the power line. A “coax noise filter” in line with the antenna cable didn’t help. Neither did a phase cancelling box that I bought.

I can’t say for sure that the construction of a multi-story storage facility near the neighborhood was the source, but the noise has diminished significantly now that construction is complete. I can remember noticing that they were arc-welding the steel structure. Unfortunately, I didn’t not recognize the potential connection during construction.

The noise that I was experiencing was more sporadic when it was there than yours is so yours may be something totally different. Since you can’t listen to the radio much due to the interference, take time to view RASA’s YouTube videos. Maybe you’ll pick up a few ideas from them.

And F. Y. I., I am still waiting for a reply from a fellow at the ARRL to a sound clip of my interference that I sent with an email. I understand that they are going through some reorganization at the HQ so I guess it will be a while before I hear anything from them.

QRN Any Ideas?

Steve VA3FLF/KM4FLF

This what I have been putting up with the last 3 or 4 weeks. It started suddenly. I have tried tracking times, driving around with AM broadcast radio on, but I can not seem to isolate this. I thought grow lights, LED's? The times are totally random but seem to be more often in the evening but sometimes goes way into the late morning.

The recording is 40M and I am 10db over. 30 /20 is effected but slowly gets weaker up the band. 40 and below become completely unusable.

Help?

Re: KC3EF October Road Trip Update

Rick - N7WE

And once again Dick, great big thank you to you and Kathy.  I really enjoy your road trips and the new grids.  You two really are PSK Travelers!  It is a long time to next August/September, but I'll just wait it out.  There are a bunch of grids out there that are not in my log!  Again, thank you both!  And Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: KC3EF October Road Trip Update

Richard Rohrer

Well, Kathy and I arrived back in FL on Saturday from 30 days of travel.  Thanks to all who worked me during this trip and sorry about those that needed grids, but could not make contact.  We will be home for about a week and then traveling to MD for work for a bit.  Will be in DE at Thanksgiving and Xmas, so if anyone still needs DE let me know.

Our next road trip is planned for August/September 2022 to the Pacific Northwest hitting some of the grids in NORCAL and OR and WA.  I will keep the group posted as the xyl does the planning.

Finally, back on the air

John Hendry KG5OIB

I've been off the air for some time now.   We have been in the middle of a move for the last month, and I made the strange decision to go back to school to get a masters degree... at age 63.
Finally got a wire up outside, so I can at least work from the back porch.   Working on how to get coax in the house.
But I was able to get a new contact on 20 meters PSK this morning!

Not sure how long I can work today, but hope to see you on the waterfall soon!

Re: Triple Play Low Band Sprint – Heads Up

Keep in mind that this is a three day event with one six hour block so don't be too quick to tell the other station they are a Dupe, you don't know which six hour block they are going to submit.  It's easier and probably quicker to just send the exchange plus the checker will throw out any Dupes.  Have fun.

Re: Triple Play Low Band Sprint – Heads Up

Here's an idea on how to build participation of non members.  During your contacts in the coming week mention the sprint and that it's a chance to rack up some Q's on 160 and 80 meters.  Be sure to let non members know that you don't have to be a member to join the fun.

LAST CALL – JAMBOREE ON THE AIR - JOTA

stan W9SMR

For your participation in the JAMBOREE ON THE AIR - JOTA

on October 15 - 17, 2021,

PODXS 070 Club offers JOTA Participation and Enabler Stickers.

1)  JOTA Participant for those who get on air and make a contact with a JOTA station.

2) JOTA Enabler for those who, working with a troop, set up a station, oversee operation, and "enable" PSK31 JOTA contacts for Scouts in any way.

A JOTA Enabler may also claim JOTA Participant if they make a PSK31 contact with another JOTA station.

We will use the honor system - just like the Field Day Sticker - to determine eligibility for both endorsements as it greatly simplifies the process of awarding stickers.  If you say you participated, you participated! Please DO NOT send or attach your log.

Send your email to:  robinstan@...

On the Subject Line, state “JOTA Sticker”.
In the body state the following:
1) Your Call and Member number
2) The number of completed JOTA contacts
3) State your role if claiming to be a JOTA Enabler

So far I have these Participants and Enablers. You will be added to the next Sticker mailing list.

Stan

365 Need Dates – November / December

stan W9SMR

Wow!! This is great to see the enthusiasm continuing to grab that 365/366 Endorsement. It is a tough one, only 59 members have done it.

Congrats, to our latest successful members !!

So far in 2021, Dave, KB3RAN, Alan, KA5VZG, Geary, KE5IRK; Mary, KC4TIE; Dave, VE7BGD and John, KG5OIB have completed the challenge.

Needing only November 11 to complete the 366 Award is Ruud, PA3EEG, and Yuri, R6KEE needs only December 15.

Good job Bob, KK6KMU, who picked off 5 needed dates in October. Harry, K9HW grabbed his 3 needed dates. Bob, KF3AA grabbed his 3 needed dates. Steve, VA3FLF picked up 8 October dates. Continuing the quest is Joe, K3YES who now needs only 38 dates after grabbing 17 dates in October.

Again, a special note of encouragement to Bob, K4VBM who, although he needed over 200 dates, has been valiantly picking up every needed day in July, August, September and October. He still needs 169 including 23 in November and 27 in December, but I know he will finish it off.

In the table below, I have shown November and December need dates for those members needing fewer than 60 days total. These are the folks really getting close. Be sure to look for them.

I will publish this table periodically as the time approaches. Best of luck and good Propagation to boot! Please verify your own need dates as I may have missed some.

To see what dates you need, upload your full log and check the "Online Endorsement Checker". In the "In Progress" section, click on "Target" for the 360 category and a list of needed dates will show. If you have a problem seeing that, please just let me know.

A helpful hint from Alan, KA5VZG is to check each day around 2345Z and hang around until after 0000Z to see if you can pick up two days. Be sure to call CQ 365 to make your needs known.

The new 365 Chat that KB3RAN set up should be a big help in coordinating.
For the 365 Chat, follow this link: 365 Chat Group
