   Hi Stephen es welcome

Couple tips re FT8 es FT4

Your PC clock must be set to  WWV  +/-  two seconds

Your SSB ALC must not go into hard clamping action, else max splatter es distortion ... IF so ... reduce audio drive ... use WSJT-X SLIDER or PC (audio  output) drop window... splatter ... overdrive distortion also applies to PSK

72 73 74
QRPp^MAX  = 1W

Jim,
Thanks, I tried WSJT-X again and this time was able to decode the FT8. Looks like S9OK is having a big time on 7.070 I am having a rough time making contact with anyone tonight. Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

Just curious to find out what mode is being used to broadcast on several offsets tonight. Can’t seem to find it with Fldigi.

Here is a prediction graph of Solar Cycle 25 as compared to Solar Cycle 24. It shows a sunspot peak in July 2025 but it could be earlier.

This event will test your ingenuity and stealthy antenna talents in order to put up an antenna that will send your signals into the ether. It is not impossible. After all, a 160M dipole is only 272 feet long. Check your HOA rules for loop-holes.

And it will be worth pursuing, in order to grab that Top Band Endorsement Sticker with 20 QSOS on 160M. Only 44 of our 2,869  members have earned this one.

Last year, 24 logs were submitted. That’s more than double from the 11 in 2019. This is an excellent opportunity to test our Top Band!!
Let’s see if we can beat that turnout. Stretch out that long-wire!

365 Need Dates –October/November

It is great to see enthusiasm continuing to grab that 365/366 Endorsement.

Congrats, to our latest successful members !!

So far in 2021, Dave, KB3RAN, Alan, KA5VZG, Geary, KE5IRK; Mary, KC4TIE; Dave, VE7BGD and John, KG5OIB have completed the challenge.

Needing only November 11 to complete the 366 Award is Ruud, PA3EEG.

Larry, WA7HDZ needs only 3 August dates to complete his 366 award. He has not uploaded recently, so I do not know if he got them.

Good job Bob, KK6KMU, who picked off 18 needed dates in September. Harry, K9HW grabbed his 17 needed dates. Bob, KF3AA grabbed his 2 needed dates. Joining the quest is Joe, K3YES who now needs only 60 dates. A special note of encouragement to Bob, K4VBM who, although he needed over 200 dates, has been valiantly picking up every needed day in July, August and September. Keep it up, Bob, only 173 to go. You’ll get there.

In the table below, I have shown October and November need dates for those members needing fewer than 60 days total. These are the folks really getting close. Be sure to look for them.

I will publish this table periodically as the time approaches. Best of luck and good Propagation to boot! Please verify your own need dates as I may have missed some.

To see what dates you need, upload your full log and check the "Online Endorsement Checker". In the "In Progress" section, click on "Target" for the 360 category and a list of needed dates will show. If you have a problem seeing that, please just let me know.

A helpful hint from Alan, KA5VZG is to check each day around 2345Z and hang around until after 0000Z to see if you can pick up two days. Be sure to call CQ 365 to make your needs known.

The new 365 Chat that KB3RAN set up should be a big help in coordinating.
For the 365 Chat, follow this link: 365 Chat

AT LEAST FLDIGI HAS A GREAT GROUP TO HELP OUT WITH QUESTIONS FOR FREE. AND THEY HAVE A GREAT GROUP.

I'm still using the last free version of HRD released by Simon prior to the buyout.

It works great for me with a Navigator interface on Windows 10.  YMMV, of course, but at the free price it might be worth a look.  Like any multifunctional software, there is a learning curve, but good documentation on the interwebs if you search.

Re: From ARRL Weekly DX News...

Steve -

Note that the intent of this "observation" is that since both Alaska and Hawaii are states and DXCC entities, they count as both for the purposes of the contest. This isn't really a special rule--it's acknowledging that our definition of "country" in SPC-based contests uses the DXCC definition of entity.

It isn't really biased towards west coast entries any more than the preponderance of DXCC entities in the Caribbean and Europe are biased towards east coast entries.

If/when either PR or VI becomes the 51st state, that observation will be updated to include it.

I note:
First Alaska station worked counts as two (2) multipliers (country and state).
First Hawaii station worked counts as two (2) multipliers (country and state).
is nice for the west coast...
Maybe (next time, for ALL contests) add the east coast US islands PR + VI ??  to be fair?

I posted some photos from my October 2012 trip on

I have some later photos, but I don't think I've posted them. First the LPA was dangling. Then it and the shack were gone.

As of now, all that's left is an empty tower.

HRD Enhancements

Buz Johnson

Hey Guys,

I just thought I report on a project I've been working on.  Most of my operational errors happen when I use the mouse to click on a micro tab and hit the wrong one.  Well, that's a bummer but it happens way too often and I guess my mousing skills are declining with age.  So being an engineer and like to do repetitive things quickly and accurately I started to investigate.  I used Hot Keys to help me do CAD design better and faster, so I thought I wonder if I could do the same in HRD?  Well, yes HRD does have some Hot Keys although they are not programmable.  SEND and STOP are assigned to F4 & F5 respectively and by arranging the order of your micro tabs, you can have two-finger Hot Keys of CTL +( 0-9).  I mainly use two micro sets, one for normal PSK QSO's and the other for PSK Contest.  So the next challenge would be to arrange the micro tabs in each set to match the other in function so you wouldn't have to relearn every time you switched.  Well, this is where it gets hard.
I'm not a big fan of two-finger Hot Keys, but I have used them in the past and they are okay.  If only HRD would allow the user to program his own Hot Keys?  I did suggest that to Mike Carper of HRD but haven't heard back from him.  But then inspiration hit me like a brick.  I have a fancy Microsoft Keyboard with 9 programmable keys in three sets that I can use.  Walla!!  My problem was solved.  Now all I needed to do was move my most used micro tabs from 1 to 10 and the fancy keyboard can do the rest after I program it.  Now I have 11 one keystroke function buttons that I can use per micro-set and I can report it works great.  Now I won't guarantee this old geezer won't make mistakes in the future, but it has really improved operation smoothness.  I used my Brother Label maker to print out the key function and pasted it to the keyboard so I wouldn't have to memorize it. My memory is not what it used to be.
My keyboard is not offered anymore but there are several Gaming Keyboards and Pads on the market that have programmable keys for under $100.

Hope this helps someone.
