Hi Dave

I am fairly new, so Caveat emptor.  Like Bob said, I can't find anything either that works in FLDIGI.

FWIW, I extract my PSK contacts from ACLog (or could use FLDIGI log extract).  Then I grab the latest PODXS membership list. Then I do some merging & comparing (chanting and incense as well sometimes) of PODXS membership dates and QSO dates in excel to identify those contacts I think will help me on my way to LONP.  It is pretty manual, but I don't do it often so it isn't to big of a pain.

Once I have identified those contacts, I just leave them in excel for now - I could go back to ACLOG and manually update the entries with the PODXS numbers, but I am too lazy.

Re: WARC BANDS

Ray Clements

Sorry, but there is no PSK band plan per se. Yes, there are some frequencies that were commonly used by PSK operators, but this is not official.

According to the ARRL Band Plan http://www.arrl.org/band-plan),  RTTY and other data modes )  share the frequency allocation from 18.100 to 18.105. Packet modes (which are rare these days) are assigned 18.105 - 18.110. There is nothing official about this band plan. It is only a suggestion.

The entire 17 meter band, as with other WARC bands, is quite narrow, ranging only from 18.068-18.168. All data modes are supposed to share the narrow segment of frequency space between 18.100 - 18.105. That includes RTTY, PSK, FT4, FT8, Olivia, MFSK.

According to the FCC band rules   http://www.arrl.org/files/file/Regulatory/Band%20Chart/Band%20Chart%20-%2011X17%20Color.pdf   CW and Data modes can be operated on the 17 meter band anywhere between 18.068 - 18.110 and phone and image modes can be operated between 18.110 and 18.168.

There are certain frequencies on which specific data modes have generally been used. These frequencies fall into the RTTY/Data allocation of the ARRL Band Plan. However, with the popularity of FT8 and the lack of PSK signals on many bands, PSK signals have been squeezed out especially on the narrow WARC bands. Although operating PSK at 18.097 - 18.100 is slightly below the ARRL Band plan, according to FCC rules, it is perfectly legal to do so.

According to the PSK Band plan, 18.100 to 18.105 is meant for PSK on 17m and that is what I was trying to stay within.  18.097.5 is slated for ARRL CW.  To be honest, I haven't heard any PSK on 17m or 24m.  With FT8 consuming the digital bandwidth on many of our PSK frequencies (I've even heard FT8 on 14.070), I hope we can reclaim some of our traditional frequencies with band conditions improve.

Re: PODXS NBR's #new

I have always wondered how folks keep track of PODXS # in Ham Radio Deluxe.  I like to use the Automatic Log Entry (ALE) for PSK so the only field available to use is the Comments field.  The PODXS # automatically shows up if I've worked the station once I click on the call sign.  If the station is a new # for me, the comment field is empty.  I know I can create a special field to enter PODXS # in my Log Book but that field won't show up in the AEL.  I've also been using the Comment field in the ALE to enter Contest Exchanges.  I know there better contest logging programs out there but haven't invested the time or money to explore better options.  If I did uses another contest logging program it would have to run parallel with HRD.  Where HRD falls short is reporting dupes before I log the station.

Endorsement Daze #5 – CHIMP CHASE and WARC-CRAWL

stan W9SMR

Subject: Endorsement Daze #5 – CHIMP CHASE and WARC-CRAWL

Saturday, August 21
Sunday August 22

This is our 5th Endorsement Daze Event. IT IS NOT A CONTEST.

This activity is intended to promote more on-air time among members and provide targeted opportunities to achieve specific PODXS Endorsements.

For the second time we will include the CHIMP CHASE, designed to encourage informal outdoor portable operation. Grab an Atta-Boy by going portable during Daze #5. Five members earned this during Daze #4; K7PAX, KB3RAN, KM4LDW, KO4EJD and N7WE.

And new for a challenge will be an Atta-Boy for WARC-CRAWL. Just make one QSO on each of our WARC Bands 30M/17M/12M and receive the new Atta-Boy. Be one of the first to earn this.

First Objective:  CHIMP CHASE

We have had a very successful APE (August PSK-31 Expedition) program for years. We encourage you to explore this great experience.

See:  August PSK Expeditions (APE)

Rumor has it that KC9UR and KB3RAN are planning APE activations that weekend. KC9UR will activate POTA K-4182 during this 9th consecutive year APE. KB3RAN will participate in the International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend  (ILLW) from West Quoddy Head Lighthouse State Park, ME.  What fun that will be!!

We now expand the challenge to encourage informal Portable Operation on your own schedule by now chasing the CHIMP (A Portable setup of your choice)

Think of Chimp Chase as APE Boot-Camp!!

A Chimp qualified portable expedition site must be away from your home radio shack. You may use home power but you need to set up a temporary/portable antenna and station away from the home shack. Backyard ops and park picnic benches are encouraged for this category.

If this operation is at an official POTA or SOTA so much the better! Let us know the details using the Reflector.

To be a valid CHIMP CHASE, the operation must take place during the Daze #5 event and make at least 5 two-way PSK31 contacts.

Note that no prior approval is required to enjoy a sunny afternoon on your patio!

Following successful completion of your CHIMP operation, post your story on the Reflector or just send me an email advising me of your successful operation and a “CHIMP CHASE Atta-Boy” will be emailed to you.

Second Objective: WARC-CRAWL

This seems to be a good time to focus our attention on the improving Cycle 25 propagation. Time to explore a new band and its good and bad attributes, even if we have to CRAWL!!

Just make one QSO on each of our WARC bands, 30M, 17M and 12M.

The added benefit is progress (crawling) toward the existing WARC Endorsements (12/12M, 17/17M, 30/30M and Tri-WARC). The Tri-WARC requires making 3 QSOs on each of the WARC bands.

Following successful completion of your WARC-CRAWL Challenge, post your story on the Reflector or just send me an email advising me of your successful operation and a “WARC-CRAWL Atta-Boy” will be emailed to you.

Endorsement Daze #5

Starting: 00:00 UTC on Saturday, August 21

Ending:  23:59 UTC on Sunday, August 22

Our Endorsement Daze #5 event is planned for 48 hours in hopes of finding everyone’s available operating times. As always, these events offer a wonderful opportunity to earn LONP and other Endorsement credits.

There is nothing critical about your operating times. Get on when you can and the conditions are favorable and enjoy the event. Post your intentions on the Reflector.

Join the fun and enjoy…Call: CQ CQ 070 Daze de (Ur Call)

If you will be operating portable, include CHIMP (or Portable) in your CQ.

For other Endorsement credit, upload your complete log promptly to the Online Endorsement Checker :  http://hamclubs.info/070-checker/

The Atta-Boys for Chimp Chase and WARC-CRAWL will be via direct contact with me or through your shared Reflector stories.
No upload required for my approval of these Atta-Boys.

As you see activity on the waterfall, be sure to “SPOT” those calls and your own to PSKReporter and on the Reflector. Be sure to Spot any CHIMPS you see and especially any signals seen on the WARC bands.

We encourage you to work nonmembers too. Just show them how much fun the PODXS 070 Club can be and welcome them to join us.

After you enjoy the Daze #5, please send me your comments and suggestions to improve this Event. If these events are being enjoyed, I hope to repeat Endorsement Daze Events.

Due to FT8 taking over 18.100, most go to 18097 for 17M.

If you check the common FT8 frequencies, you will see that most of the bands are open, even 10m and 12m. However, the few PSK signals that you might find are primarily on 20m 14.070.

I just made PSK contact with W4PKU in VA. I am in 9-land near Chicago.

There are a few others on frequency as well, but I have to get ready to take my wife out for a pizza, so I am QRT for now.

There used to be a lot of EU on in the morning but that has shifted to the late afternoon.  Have seen some good propagation to the Caribbean  and had a contact with FM4TI, Martinique and 8P6RY, Barbados, twice in the past week.  22:00z to 01:00z.

Reminder 2021 FD Stickers

stan W9SMR

Last day to upload to ARRL - Tuesday, July 27, 2021

I hope that you participated in the 2021 FD and enjoyed that experience. The PODXS 070 Club offers Stickers to reward you for that participation and for uploading to ARRL.

There are two stickers available.

1)  Firstly there is the existing Field Day Participation Sticker

This is for anyone who participates in Field Day in any way, (including setup/tear-down, KP duty, etc.) either individually or as part of a group.

2) Secondly, -
The Field Day Club Upload Sticker

The second Sticker is for folks who participate on their own (not part of another group) and upload their log info to ARRL

For 2021 Field Day Entry go to:  https://field-day.arrl.org/fdentry.php

Important: If you participated in FD, please upload to ARRL indicating your club affiliation as PODXS 070.  “PODXS 070” will appear in the drop-down for Club or Group Name. All you have to do is select (click on) it.
Note that according to the rules, that upload may consist of:

"Cabrillo log or list of stations worked by band/mode (dupe sheet)"

You may upload using only 1 Club association. So if you are already part of another Field Day group and uploading your log as part of their score, you can’t earn our Field Day Club Upload Sticker. You can still earn the Field Day Participation Sticker.

3) Notify me: I will put you on the list!

Simply send an email directly to me robinstan (at) Hotmail (dot) com by Tuesday, July 27, 2021. (Last day to upload to ARRL

Please use 2021 Field Day in the subject line.

The body of your email needs only your Call and Member number. Please note if you also uploaded your log info to ARRL.

You will be eligible for the FD Participation Sticker even if you do not upload to ARRL.

So far I have recorded 29 members who participated in Field Day. See listing below.

Please let me know if I have missed your participation or upload.

Of those, 16 indicated they uploaded under PODXS 070 Club. Seven members uploaded with another club. Six members did not indicate their upload situation. If you did upload, let me know. I can get that info from ARRL eventually and you will receive your Field Day Club Upload Sticker and the Field Day Participation Sticker.

The Field Day Club Upload Sticker may not be available next year. Grab it while you can.

Last year 36 members participate in FD and 17 members uploaded and we had a 5,198 Score. Did we beat that this year!
