NR3I FM29er Delaware Activation April 28th

Steve WB3LGC

I plan on being on the air April 28th during the day.
The weather is forecast as "almost" record breaking warm weather (86F) and a great day to be outside.

I will be testing a few portable antennas and two different methods (fldigi and KX3).
I will be running PSK-31 at 10 Watts or less.

I hope to be on the air by 10am EDT.

Using the call NR3I working on getting 50 QSO's for the club call.
I will be located just West of Wilmington, DE  New Castle County.
I will QSL via LoTW (I can do paper with SASE).

20M mainly  -  I will try 30m and 40m if band conditions "die" on 20m.

I will report how I make out (or not)...

Daren joined us on October 9, 2020 as 070 Member #2797. In Darin’s first 6 months as a member, he has accomplished 192 Member QSO’s giving him not only the 100 Level LONP, but also the 150 Level. He is only 8 QSO’s short of the 200 Level.

What a performance! But that is just part of the story!!

The month following his joining, he finished 2nd in High Power in the Triple Play Contest. Undaunted, he continued his quest for dominance:

How’s that for a Newbie? That places him 2nd in the race for RC3 for 2021, tightly nestled between N5SLY and KC3FL.

Note that one secret to Darin’s success is his being the first member with a number >2786 that submitted his entire log to N6MG for verification of LONP credits. This shows that if members with #'s greater than 2786 submit their logs, they CAN achieve LONP even if it requires manual verification. See below for instruction on how to accomplish that.

We also have an excited pack of LONP Seekers in hot pursuit of this traditional first rights award. If you see them, give them a call and spot them on PSKReporter and our reflector:

And, also very noteworthy was completion by Dave, VE7BGD of his 366 Award. It takes significant dedication to grab that one. You are only our 57th Member (2%) to get it.

With the endorsement software not working properly, a lot of manual intervention has been required. Our Executive Director, Jim, K5SP, with assistance from David, K9DWR, and Milt, N6MG have been manually updating the LONP data.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!!

Since the endorsement checker does not properly recognize and give any LONP credit for member numbers that are greater than 2786, this task must now be completed manually by a volunteer.

If your 070 membership number is above #2786, you may still apply for LONP by submitting your entire log of member contacts per the

Many fishing boats from the islands or South America have ham radios and indiscriminately talk wherever they want.  Sometimes you can hear 5 or 6.  Luckily most of the time they do not talk much or maybe we just can't hear them.  Also it is in spanish or maybe Portugese or some other language that I don't understand.

Re: KC3EF EL59 Activation

Richard Rohrer

Hi Eric,

I will be happy to share my vast knowledge, hi hi.  It is fun to do and really not to hard.  Fortunately for me Kathy, my xyl, likes to travel and plans the trips to activate different grids.  There are a lot of un-activated grids in the West, so there are plenty of opportunities.  Its nice to be on the other side of the pile-up.

Dick,

Thanks again for activating EL59.  I am thrilled to have added it to my grid list.  The QSB on 20m had been pretty bad all weekend, but when you were in, you were 100% print with good looking rails.

I saw that you were calling N7WE and N7RI, that's why I was a couple of hundred Hz high in case they answered.

I'll probably want to pick your brain when I head out to activate some grids in Nevada this summer/fall.

Cheers,

Eric

The EL59 activation started out slowly.  We were 100 feet from the grid and we were stopped by a slow moving freight train, that then stopped and backed up, then went forward again.  Finally got free of it, but it was a crossed the entrance to  Chalemette Battlefield Park where we were going to park, but the entrance to the Chalmette National Cemetery next to it was open so that's where Kathy pull in.

Started call Rick, N7WE and then Bill, N7RI without any success. Just seeing momentary traces then nothing.  Saw Eric, KG6MZS calling me up the band a bit and jumped up and answered him.  Copy was poor, but we did make a complete contact.  Call the others for a bit with no luck.  Decided to put the 40mtr hamstick on and try that band.  Gave a call on 40 and noticed that the swr was really bad and power out was about 20 watts.  Rick called me right away and he was arm chair copy.  Bob K4VBM was the next to give me a call and was 100% copy for GA.  The Lee, N5SLY popped in with a good signal from TX.  We left the cemetery because Kathy heard the train approaching and did not want to get caught on the wrong side of the tracks so to speak.  Worked Carl, N4LPD in FL who was great copy.  Train turned out just to be a single engine.  Was out of the grid, but then so headed down the road to FL.

I was a little surprised that 40 would be the better band, knowing that the antenna efficiency and low power would preclude good results, but that was the best copy I think for the whole trip.

Thanks for all who contacted during this tripl
