St. Patrick’s Day Contest 2021 results are in. A very BIG THANK YOU to David, K9DWR, for again creating the upload link and parsing the results.

This was a 24 hour long contest on all bands 160M to 6M, so we had full flexibility to choose the operating times and frequencies to maximize our results.

Our TOP DAWG and 1st Place Medium Power winner was consistent high-roller Lee, N5SLY who again humbled the competitionLee had 127 QSOs, 5 Countries and 33 States along with the Erin Go Bragh bonus.

In 2nd Place Medium Power was Jerry, N9AVY. Jerry also earned the Erin Go Bragh bonus. In 3rd Place was Robert, KF3AA.

In 1st Place, High Power, was Darin, KO4EJD with 90 QSOs, 4 Countries and 28 States. He also earned the Erin Go Bragh bonus.

In 2nd Place, High Power was Steve, VA3TPS and in 3rd Place was Bob, KK6KMU.

Low Power 1st Place was Jim, K5SP, our illustrious Executive Director, with 82 QSOs. This in spite of not earning any Erin Go Bragh bonus points.

In 2nd Place, Low Power was Milt, N6MG closely followed by Steve, W3HF in 3rd Place.

The sole entrant and 1st Place in QRP Power was non-member Sameer, KI5EIF, of Austin TX. Congratulations and welcome to our contest. We hope to see your application to join us soon.

Winners in each Category are summarized in the table below.

With 62 logs submitted (up from 47 last year) we had great participation, with 2,205 uploaded QSOs. There were 11 High Power, 33 Medium Power, 17 Low Power and one QRP Power logs submitted.

This year, only Milt, N6MG was able to pull in Suke, JM7OLW on 20M. A summary of QSOs by band is shown below.

We were honored to have 5 non-members join us. In addition to our QRP winner Sameer, KI5EIF of Austin, TX, we were joined by Jason, K3JSJ of Bowie, MD; Steve, NR3I of Wilmington, DE; Michael, KC7MAW of Port Orchard, WA; Richard, N4FA of Cape Coral, FL and MatthewWA0V  of Augusta, KS. Thank you all for participating. We hope to see you join us soon as members.

Sorry, can’t resist bragging that W9SMR somehow lucked into the Erin Go Bragh bonus also. With minutes left in the contest, in walked John, W3BUG #2540 completing my reward. Thank you, John!

Full results will be uploaded to the 070 Club and 070 Club Contest Reflectors. See Groups.io for info on viewing: 070-email-reflectors

Our next challenge is the 31 Flavors Contest, starting Saturday, April 3rd. This is your rare chance to conquer 5 other PSK modes with ample opportunity to compare the sensitivity and speed of these robust digital modes. For details, see 31-Flavors Rules

Re: CONTEST MACRO'S #information

Dave,
In Fldigi you can get away with two macros, <MODEM:BPSK31> and <MODEM:QPSK31>.  That will change your mode to either BPSK31 or QPSK31.  Down at the lower left corner it will say either BPSK31 or QPSK31 and if you left click on that box all the sub modes will pop up and you can left click on a sub mode and you're all done.

Re: CONTEST MACRO'S #information

Dave...It depends on what software ur using. What's your software?

For MixW:
PSK31 =    <MODE:BPSK31>
PSK63 =    <MODE:BPSK63>
PSK125 =    <MODE:BPSK125>
QPSK31 =   <MODE:QPSK31>
QPSK63 =   <MODE:QPSK63>
QPSK125 = <MODE:QPSK125>

Steve and others have the macro's for different software, e.g. Digipan, Field Digi, etc.

Barry: That sounds like you already have the same version of the Access driver. You might consider choosing “repair” in case your current driver is corrupt.

Dick:

Unfortunately, that is true for many of us.  Used to be a die-hard 10m op many long years ago.  Could draw a 600 mile circle around my QTH and that was "the zone of silence".   Did try working backscatter and that prodced a few contacts, but close in states around me weren't there yet I could hear others working 9-land stations.

Several years ago I went to visit my Daughter in MN (about 350 miles away) and copied stations on 10m that I could never hear back in Illinois.

Nw it seems that 20m is acting pretty like 10m did back in the day. When W9SMR/9 or KC9UR is on 20m I just can't hear a peep out of them.

So my only chance at clos in stations is on 40/80m, but current propagation isn't that good.  Best bet is to get to know the bands by operating daily and figuring out the propagation by what you hear.  Propagation, IMHO, are like weather foreasts...

This is a chance to try 6 different PSK modes.  Check your software - most will do all PSK Modes.  6 mode variants will be used:

·         BPSK 31 [Narrow bandwidth]

·         QPSK 31 [Narrow bandwidth]

·         BPSK 63 [Wide bandwidth]

·         QPSK 63 [Wide bandwidth]

·         BPSK 125 [Very wide bandwidth]

·         QPSK 125 [Very wide bandwidth]

Sprint Rules – Work a 6 hour block of your choice. For Scoring, your 6 hour block will start with the hour you select on the Upload Link page and continue for the next 6 hours

Work each station once per mode. (Same station, same mode, is a dupe!)

Frequencies: - 20 Meters only
- Normal PSK sub-band for narrow mode variants,
- Sub-band 14072.5 - 14080 kHz suggested for wide bandwidth mode variants.

3 Power Categories (No 100 W category):

For Rules and detailsClick Here: 31 Flavors (podxs070.com)

This is one of our most interesting contests. If you have never tried these different PSK modes, don't be shy.

There has been lots of discussion on the Reflectors concerning how to set up MACROS to change modes efficiently. Check it out.

Last year, we had 45 Logs submitted, which is the highest since 2016. Lee, N5SLY, won Top Dawg honors and First Place in the 50W category with a spectacular 92 QSOs utilizing all 6 modes.

Let’s see if we can give Lee some competition this year !

Hope to work you in all 6 modes!

It was a surprisingly easy fix in my case. Hope it works for you guys too! Before I installed it, my DM780 would freeze every time I clicked on a callsign to enter it into the Add Log window, and often, anytime I used the mouse.

When I run that exe I get a popup asking if I would like to change my installation of MAR 2013
I have options:
1) Add or remove Features
2) Repair
3) Remove
4) Enter a Product Key
None of these looked too attractive to me.

Grids are hard to get if one doesn't have that one.  As close as I am to IA, WI, MI, MN and MO, I still need a few here & there.  The last sunspot cycle provide a lot of PSK31 contacts and AI hope once Cycle 25 gets rolling it will do the same providing that more FT8 operators get bored.
