KC3EF Spring Road Trip

Richard Rohrer

We got our tickets for the NCAA Gymnastics National Championships today, so the spring road trip is on.  We will be covering the following grids:  EM64, EM27, EM26, EM25, EM24, EM23, EM15, EM14, EM13, EM03, EM02, EM01, DL99 and DL98.  These are grids that I have not made a qso from.  This may seem disjointed, but that is why.  From Huntsville, EM64 we will be going thru some of the other EM grids in the 30s, 40s, and 50s.  We will be returning thru the TX, LA coast again so EL59 is still a possibility for anyone that needs it.  We are leaving on April 9th and will be back in FL some time around the 24th.  No Rick we are not going to DL88, hi hi.  If anyone would like the detailed map drop me an e-mail.

HRD Freeze Fix (?)

K8TOM

Thanks for the tip, Paula.  I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I have found with DM780 that by typing the call sign into the box (rather than clicking with the mouse to auto-insert) the frequency of freezing is greatly lessened.

Maybe that's coincidental or causal; I can't say.

Tom

Make sure to download the second file in the list, ending in x86, NOT the x64 version listed first.

Randy and Barry - I had a lot of trouble with DM780 freezing. HRD support had me do the following and it fixed it for me:

“Downnload and install the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2013 driver. CAUTION: Please make sure you download and install the 32-bit version (AccessRuntime_x86_en-us.exe) Download Here -- ”

It was a surprisingly easy fix in my case. Hope it works for you guys too! Before I installed it, my DM780 would freeze every time I clicked on a callsign to enter it into the Add Log window, and often, anytime I used the mouse.

Re: 31 Flavors Sprint – Heads Up !

Mike,
You can put the number in the notes field but you don't have to include the number with your upload.  You can easily create the ADIF file from the Fldigi log.  Just go under the Logbook tab and select ADIF and EXPORT.  It will take a few minutes and might be minimized to your task bar.  Use the select by date option and select All Fields, the checker will throw out what isn't required.

Any recommendations from the members on what logging software to use for 31 Flavors?  Just use Fldigi and put the member number in the Remarks field?  I also have N1MM+ and all the N3FJP versions.

Jerry, you go get him  hi hi
Norm, good catch.  You beat me. mine cost me  $30, only  because it was listed under musical equipment because the guy had no idea of what he had..  Think the guy thought it was some kind of a guitar tuner.
Milt, you got one and you gotta admit. it works and you like it because it's another way to insure your signal is the best trace on the waterfall and you always have a super clean trace.
Bottom line; show Zero ALC and it's clean.

Thanks for the heads up John!  I just snagged it for $26 including shipping.  It will be an nice tool in the shack. Especially now that I'm really getting more into PSK.

I was just looking at some ham accessories on EBay and there is a KK7UQ IMD Meter listed with no bidders and it ends at 9 PM esdt.  These usually go for $75 to $100 and right now with shipping it's at less than $30.

DM780 (HRD) does not use macros to switch modes.  At the far right on the waterfall tool bar there is a "modes" button (music note icon).  Clicking on it opens a pop up menu of all available DM780 modes.  Selecting a mode from the list adds a button on the waterfall tool bar for that mode.  You can add as many mode buttons as you like.  Simply clicking on the proper button changes the mode for both RX and TX and makes the change in the Add Log Entry box.  It also adjusts the tuning guide width on the waterfall, making it easy to find the right mode for a signal!  There are even separate selections for USB and LSB on the QPSK modes.

I am unaware of any macro within DigiPan 2.0 (the last version I know about) that changes digital mode. It's not documented in the program (which does appear to have a complete list), and it's not listed in WM2U's list of macro commands.

DigiPan 2.0 only includes BPSK31, BPSK63, and QPSK31 anyway, so it's probably not a great choice for Flavors if you really want to work all the modes.

I was incorrect in "assuming" that macro's were macros, regardless.
While we're on that subject, does anyone have mode changing macro's for Digipan?
What about HRD/???.

I believe that is for MixW software.

With Fldigi to change modes in a macro.  Setup a Qpsk macro with <MODEM:QPSK31> and a macro for BPSK with <MODEM:BPSK31>
Down at the very lower left there is a box that shows what mode you are using and if you click on that it will bring up the different sub mode, BPSK31, BPSK63, BPSK125 etc.
You can click on the sub mode you want and you're ready to go.  Doing it that way, you won't have to go to the mode tab and do a bunch of hunting.  You should be able to choose any mode in a second or two.  You could also do it the way Milt has shown.  Might be a split second faster but a lot of macros.

Macro's for 31 Flavors Contest/Operating Event

"All-y'all"... (Plural for y'all)
Through the courtesy of our tireless Executive Director, Jim, K5SP, 070-0483, here's the mode changing macro's for the 31 Flavors event.

BPSK31     -    <MODE:BPSK31>
BPSK63     -    <MODE:BPSK63>
BPSK125   -    <MODE:BPSK125>
QPSK31     -    <MODE:QPSK31>
QPSK63     -    <MODE:QPSK63>
QPSK125   -    <MODE:QPSK125>

All you have to do is to Copy/Paste directly from here to your macro buttons.
That being covered, I'd like to add...
If you're not able, for whatever reason to participate in all the variant modes, please participate in what you can.
Also, experience has shown us that Cq'n is the most productive when done on BPSK31, then move to the other modes. Why? Our award's program is based on BPSK31 contacts.
LONP in particular is BPSK31 only.
Again, Thanks to Jim, K5SP for sharing his macro information.
If anyone has any questions, please express them.
We have some new members that may possibly need our help.

Sure, but just be glad you are not in Japan where the 20m contest runs from 19:00 to 12:59. (7 p.m. to 1 p.m.)

As propagation improves, we should take another look at this.

The Ø7Ø Club 31 Flavors Sprint is just 1 week away -

Saturday, April 3 - 1000 UTC

to Sunday, April 4 – 0359 UTC

This is an 18 hour event

Work any 6 hour block of your choice.

This is a chance to try 6 different PSK modes. Check your software - most will do all PSK Modes. 6 mode variants will be used:

· BPSK 31 [Narrow bandwidth]

· QPSK 31 [Narrow bandwidth]

· BPSK 63 [Wide bandwidth]

· QPSK 63 [Wide bandwidth]

· BPSK 125 [Very wide bandwidth]

· QPSK 125 [Very wide bandwidth]

Sprint Rules – Work a 6 hour block of your choice. For Scoring, your 6 hour block will start with the hour you select on the Upload Link page and continue for the next 6 hours.

Work each station once per mode. (Same station, same mode, is a dupe!)

Open to all licensed radio amateurs.

Frequencies: - 20 Meters only
- Normal PSK sub-band for narrow mode variants,
- Sub-band 14072.5 - 14080 kHz suggested for wide bandwidth mode variants.

3 Power Categories (No 100 W category):
Medium < 50 W

Low < 25 W

QRP < 5 W

Exchange:

- Members: State/Province/Country (SPC) + 070 Member Number eg: “FL 1611”

- Non-Members: State/Province/Country (SPC) + First Name eg. “FL Stan”

Call: “CQ PSK 31 FLAVORS” (Announce Switching to new Mode)

All entry logs must be received within 1 week after the event ends. A 31 Flavors Uploader link will be available on the PODXS 070 Home Page.

For Rules and details, Click Here: 31 Flavors Rules<https://na01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.podxs070.com%2Fo7o-club-sponsored-contests%2F31-flavors&data=04%7C01%7C%7Cb863ce866e1246e4b5d408d8f167846f%7C84df9e7fe9f640afb435aaaaaaaaaaaa%7C1%7C0%7C637524774194011822%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=XM7Vv3H8%2FnTVH31jQBwKsRiTBWWixtasOzHv24C%2FCLo%3D&reserved=0>

This is one of our most interesting contests. If you have never tried these different PSK modes, don't be shy. Jump in and give it a go! You’ll be an expert in no time!

Last year, we had 45 Logs submitted, which is the highest since 2016. Lee, N5SLY, won Top Dawg honors and First Place in the 50W category with a spectacular 92 QSOs utilizing all 6 modes.

Let’s see if we can give Lee some competition this year !

Hope to work you in all 6 modes!
