Apologies

Jim K5SP

My apologies to the membership for what may appear to some as not performing the duties expected of me.

I have been laid up with illness for weeks now, and finally seem to have beaten it, and have regained my strength to around 90 percent. I will attempt over the next few days to get caught up on the website, checking on the progress of the new endorsement checker, trying to update the membership rolls as necessary. I have not even turned the rig on in over six weeks, looking forward to Triple Play.

This illness was debilitating, and recovery was slow.  The XYL says that in the 25 years we have been together, she has never seen me as laid up and sick as I was.  In the midst of this, a precancerous condition on my hand was discovered.  The biopsy showed cancer, and fortunately we caught it very early, and they did two freezings of the cells, and it is gone.

Someone asked a question about the Triple Play, I am not sure if anyone responded, if you still have questions, I will be happy to answer them for you.

I showed up a little late this morning.
All 40 M:
1st Q was at 12:14 Z with Bob, K4VBM.
Then at 12:22 Z with Glenn, ND9Y.
Then at 13:17 Z with JJ, WR5E.
The highlight of the morning was ND9Y and WR5E were both new LONP contacts!
Going to 20m.

Took a short break but trying to fill in a few more hours for my 24/7 Endorsement.  Going to be on starting at 12:30Z on 40 meters for the 12 and 13 hour blocks.  Switching over to 20 meters for the 14 and 15 hour blocks.  Bob K4VBM helped me today.  Going to try and go all week 20 Oct thru 1 Nov.  Please be on the lookout

24/7 Endorsement Chase Wednesday morning

DAVE KB3RAN 1692/381

I plan to be on the air tonight to work 0500UTC  through 1000UTC Wednesday time slots .  That's 0100 EST local to 0600 local for me.  I'll be working 40 and 80 meters. That will nearly wrap up Wednesday for me.  I'll probably take a couple nights off then do the same on Saturday.  Hope I can find others needing these hours to join me.

I'm hesitant to put this on because I'm subject to dozing off at any time from some of the meds I take. But I will make every effort to be on.

Grey Line Propagation

Rick - N7WE

Now that the fall equinox is past, grey line propagation in the northern hemisphere should be getting better and lasting longer.  If you haven't tried it, it can be fun and produce some pretty amazing contacts.  Here's an article that gives a pretty good explanation of what it is and why it works.  https://www.electronics-notes.com/articles/antennas-propagation/ionospheric/greyline-propagation.php  PSK Reporter, HRD - DM780, and many other software programs will display the grey line on a world map.

Give it a try - particularly on 40m and 80m!

I’m also seeing what look like psk traces which sort of confirms that bandwidth estimate based on relative scale.

It looks like some sort of multiple frequency shift keyed signal, four tones.  If we knew the time scale in the image you could probably estimate the symbol rate.

Based on the repeated pattern I am taking a WAG and suggesting some sort of ALE?

Mike, Region 3 has digital voice on 7.070 also.  I was doing some late night and early morning QSO's on 40 meters these last three weeks and got QRM from voice stations almost every night.  Frustrating to say the least.

Hi Randy,

Looks like its either Olivia or Contestia.  What day was it?  I think the Salvation Army net runs one of the wideband modes on Saturdays.  I have seen it up the band when I have been running Hell on 14.063.

Re: Band Plan

Jerry, you missed the point of my post.  Nobody was violating any rules.  SSB on 7.070 is legal (in fact, encouraged during contests) in IARU Region 1 but not in IARU Region 2.  The problem is the disagreement in band plans between the IARU regions, on a frequency that supports world-wide comm.

...and yes, like you, I often stand down during the CQ WW contests. Maybe clean up the logbook or catch up on QSL cards.
