24/7 Endorsement Chase Wednesday morning
I plan to be on the air tonight to work 0500UTC through 1000UTC Wednesday time slots . That's 0100 EST local to 0600 local for me. I'll be working 40 and 80 meters. That will nearly wrap up Wednesday for me. I'll probably take a couple nights off then do the same on Saturday. Hope I can find others needing these hours to join me.

I need slots 7,8 and 9 for Wendsday morning.
I'm hesitant to put this on because I'm subject to dozing off at any time from some of the meds I take. But I will make every effort to be on.

Grey Line Propagation
Now that the fall equinox is past, grey line propagation in the northern hemisphere should be getting better and lasting longer. If you haven't tried it, it can be fun and produce some pretty amazing contacts. Here's an article that gives a pretty good explanation of what it is and why it works. https://www.electronics-notes.com/articles/antennas-propagation/ionospheric/greyline-propagation.php PSK Reporter, HRD - DM780, and many other software programs will display the grey line on a world map.
Give it a try - particularly on 40m and 80m! -- Rick - N7WE 070 - #1602

When I look at the first image I see a signal that runs from 2380 Hz to about 2850 Hz. That would be 470 Hz wide, not 5KHz.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Second image, same sort of signal from maybe 1375 thru 1860, again roughly 485 Hz wide. I’m also seeing what look like psk traces which sort of confirms that bandwidth estimate based on relative scale. It looks like some sort of multiple frequency shift keyed signal, four tones. If we knew the time scale in the image you could probably estimate the symbol rate. Based on the repeated pattern I am taking a WAG and suggesting some sort of ALE?

Mike, Region 3 has digital voice on 7.070 also. I was doing some late night and early morning QSO's on 40 meters these last three weeks and got QRM from voice stations almost every night. Frustrating to say the least.

I've not seen a signal like that before.
5 kc is a big signal!
Dick seems familiar with it.

I'm not familiar with that waterfall. May I ask what software it is?

No, it's neither of those. I work both of those. This sounds more like some type of Pactor that seems to just be idling.

Re: Band Plan
Jerry, you missed the point of my post. Nobody was violating any rules. SSB on 7.070 is legal (in fact, encouraged during contests) in IARU Region 1 but not in IARU Region 2. The problem is the disagreement in band plans between the IARU regions, on a frequency that supports world-wide comm.

I was very frustrated in trying to maintain a QSO with WB2MLY on 7.072 MHz, because we were getting QRM from voice stations in Europe working the CW SSB contest. Out of curiosity, I looked up the IARU Region 1 band plan for 40 meters (see https://www.iaru-r1.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/hf_r1_bandplan.pdf) . It reads: 7.040 - 7.047 Preferred mode: Narrow band modes , Usage: Digimodes 7.047 - 7.050 Preferred mode: Narrow band modes, Usage: Digimodes, automatically controlled data stations (unattended) 7.060 - 7.100 Preferred mode: All modes, Usage : SSB contest preferred (7.070 "Digital voice Centre of Activity") 7.130 - 7.175 Preferred mode: All modes, Usage: SSB contest preferred (7.165 "Image Centre of Activity") 7.175 - 7.200 Preferred mode: All modes, Usage: SSB contest preferred, Priority for intercontinental activity. So while those of us in IARU Region 2 observe 7.000 to 7.125 as an RTTY/data band, and 7.072 as a PSK-31 domain, that is not the case for our European/African neighbors. Fortunately, I haven't experienced a lot of SSB QRM on 7.072 except on international contest weekends, but it's a discrepancy I was not aware of until tonight. I mention it because others may be as unaware as I was. Mike W4BZM

Re: Anyone for 365 endorsement ?
Alan, et al...
I'll start looking at 0000Z on 40m.
But, that's 4:00 pm here, and 40m usually hasn't started to stretch out.
But, there's no doubt that with our superior operating ability, we'll make something happen. :-)
That 0600 to 0800 utc is a tough nut from here. Coffee and beignet time for you guys, is REM sleep time here.
This is a great group.

It's an easy way to chip away on that 365 endorsement. If no one is there, I usually look at 80m and 20m. Join in if you want. It only takes one QSO to check off the day. 73, Alan, KA5VZG 070# 1509 LONP# 213
