40 Meters QRP Calling 1925Z

Steve VA3FLF/KM4FLF

I just got my FT817 setup with new computer. I am using a small Lenova Thinkpad for portable and QRP.

I am calling CQ on 40 Meters right now if anyone is around. Burning ionosphere with 5 watts if anyone is around. Like to see if soundcard settings are all good.

Milt and all ...

Used to send $2 bills with QSL requests for return postage. Never got the same response I got with $1 bills... think people in other parts of world thought they were counterfeit currency.

With LoTW, thankfully those days are over for the most part. Still get a few QSLs via Bureau from 80's which is fine with me ...better late than never !

When I wkd him a few years ago, I sent for a card with a $2 bill enclosed.
I was told by Genna, UN7QF that they're a bit of a novelty in other parts of the world.

Had a short exchange with Marco, EA8AQV, from the Canary Islands on 20M.  Around 72.3.  IOTA #AF-004

Was weak but able to get a qso with my 10 watts.

Good luck to all.  Hope the band conditions stay good.

I'm glad to be able to knock off a few hour blocks for my 24/7 endorsement.  It's really nice to see so many folks participating. Because without others to talk to in the middle of the night my CQs were going unanswered.  Hope this keeps up for a while so everyone has a chance to get the endorsement.  It's plus that propagation is improving, too.

I just posted on invite to our 24.7 Endorsement meet on a JS8 Call message board.  It is mostly digital mode operators from Australia.  I know my post is off topic but we may get some interest from Australia on our next meet.  Just trying to get some DX in the mix.  It was nice to get Japan on 40 meters for PSK.  Have done it with RTTY but this is the first 40 meter Japan.

Spread across several times zones makes it a little more difficult to get everyone on board.  Thanks to Alan KA5VZG for coming up with the schedule and posting it.
I am surprised at the number of operators participating. See  you on the waterfall.

Bob:

Was surprised to catch Suke. He was strong when I heard you work him, but later caught him further up band and he was weak.

As I was completing 24/7 around 2015, I was very sursed at who was on during those wee hours of the morning. Perhaps you guys will start a trend ?

Congrats Jerry.  I emailed Suke and invited him to join us during the 24/7 Endorsement meet.  I see him on 20 meters all the time so thought it was worth a shot and invite him.  Alan KA5VZG and Bod K4VBM had QSO's with him also.
Andy VE4PER was also around from Manitoba Canada.  Got him on 80 meters.  You never know who will show up at 09:00Z.

Good job Bob!
Can you send me info, or a link to "PSKinfo"?
I'm not familiar with a lot of the propagation or tracking sites.
Thanks,
Milt.

Milt.  Congrats with the updates.  I got motivated myself and built a new computer for myself.  An eight core AMD processor, 16GB of ram, and video card with four video outputs, four 24 inch monitors and cleaned up my cabling.  Now I can run FLDIGI, my logging software, pskinfo and the chat room all at the same time with no delays or computer crashes.  Should have done it years ago.  Now I have the time.

Interesting being on the far left coast with Bob & Eric and Tom.
Early & coffee for you easterners is late & Melatonin for us. :-)
See everybody later tonight, and during the week.
I've done a lot of work in the shack, rotated radio's, a new 28" flat panel for MixW, and a new 24" flat panel for my ACLog & main frame. Gotta weed out all of the weak components...

We will show up by 0845z, but early birds may be on around 0830z.
We will cover 7.070 and 3.580 MHZ and will stay on as long as it takes

24/7 Endorsement - WEEK THREE starts Monday 10/19 for hour slots 0800Z and 0900Z

Bob Motyl KK6KMU

Reminder,

Week three, from Monday 10/19 - Sunday 10/25, starts tonight.  This week will cover the 0800Z and 0900Z hour slots.
Look at the Chat to see who is active.  To work both hours with limited sleep loss, we will concentrate on 0845Z - 0915Z.  From 0845-0859 QSO's will fill in the 0800Z slot. From 0900-0915Z the 0900 slot will be taken care of.  (a few earlybirds may be on by 0830)

Japan, New Zealand and Australia should be open on 40 and 80 meters at that time.  No promises.  Overt the last two weeks we have had a dozen or so members getting together to fill in some of those late night / early morning hours on the 24/7 Endorsement.  Come and join us.  See you on the waterfall
