80m Jay Hudak Sprint
I think, regardless of how crowded that segment is, we should get on, and have a good time with our 80m Sprint.
Back in the day...when I was the contest manager, we used to have "New Member Jamboree's" every100 new members. The scoring was crazy!...Number of QSO's X SPC's X the sum total of all the 070 member numbers you worked = Final score, or something like that...
How else could Jerry get at least a million points? Hi Hi
It was time for another "New Member Jamboree", and Jay, N3DQU, Charlie, K8IJ and I couldn't find a clear date on the world's contest calendar. So, what wound up was the "80 Meter Sprint" becoming the "Jay Hudak 80m Sprint". For those few that wonder who he was, Jay was 070-0001, with a membership date of 9/21/2000.
Back in my hole...

N3AO
Stephen Melachrinos
Yesterday I worked an old friend on 40m PSK, Carter N3AO. He's relatively new to PSK, and had been trying unsuccessfully to make a contact. His signal was good, so I believe his software and radio settings are good--I think he's just not finding people. Maybe it's propagation, maybe it's his choice of bands (he was on 40m in the early afternoon), maybe it's just that there are fewer active PSK operators now than there used to be.
If anyone sees him calling CQ, please give him a call and welcome him to the PSK community. Maybe we'll even be able to recruit him to the club!

Steve

Re: 80 mtrs
Wasn't aware of the contest. Hopefully we'll be in the clear next week end. Whatever the case it looked like there was good propagation on 80.

Opps...sorry John. I went back and reread your email and looked and sure enough there was a lot of FT4 activity on 3.580. Hopefully it's just the contest this weekend. Forgive me. 73 Lee N5SLY

I believe the "default" frequencies for these digital modes are these... 3.570 USB JT65 3.572 USB JT9 3.573 USB FT8 3.575 USB FT4 3.580 USB PSK So it doesn't appear to me that there will be a problem next weekend. 73 Lee N5SLY

I think this weekend was some contest called WW DIGI DX. I think the only modes allowed were FT8 and 4. Someone in our club up here put on our reflector. Maybe that’s why so crowded.

80 mtrs
I took a look at 80 meters around 01:00 z tonight, and 3.578 to 3.582 was wall to wall FT4. If they are there next week end we will have a tough time with our sprint. Any suggestions on how we should handle this? It was clear from 3.583 to 3.587 but not sure if any other mode uses this section.

Come and get Wyoming" Special Event W7Y
Bill-N7RI
The Shy-Wy Amateur Radio Club was originally scheduled to host the 2020 Wyoming ARRL Section Convention right here in Cheyenne, Wyoming. We reserved the W7Y Special Event call-sign for the event. Unfortunately, we had to cancel the in-person event due to the Global COVID-19 Pandemic, but we’re not going to let this special event call-sign go to waste. The W7Y special event station recognizes the postponed Wyoming Section ARRL Convention, hosted by the Shy-Wy ARC in Cheyenne, Wyoming. We will operate the W7Y call-sign on various bands and modes starting September 6th, 2020 and ending on September 15th, 2020.

Re: APE weather in the NW
Thanks Dick. We are all looking forward to another trip by you two and chasing grids. Great fun! Especially for us who are pretty much tied to home - Covid or not. And to think, being "rock bound" used to mean we only had crystals. Now I have dual VFOs and am "bound to the rock." Ain't life funny? Rick - N7WE070 - #1602

Hi Rick,
Like everything else its up in the air. The event we would be attending in Las Vega will either be canceled or not allowing spectators, so that is off the list. Kathy has been trip planning thru the Gulf states to AZ and then back to hit some of the less activated grids in TX, but with the potential hurricane damage that might be reconsidered. We were planning on going on a short trip around MS and AL to get some of the grids I want to transmit from, but we have been going up to MD for work and will be heading up there for two more weeks this weekend. This Covid travel restrictions really have the xyl bummed out. We have been home more this year since we moved to FL. Have not been very active, but did get two APEs. 73 Dick - KC3EF

Roger that Dick! No matter where you are...it could be worse! Laura isn't headed our way. Dodged another one.
Are you guys planning a road trip west for the fall? I, and many other grid chasers, always enjoy you trips! Hi to Kathy - super navigator and pilot of Grid Expeditions. -- Rick - N7WE 070 - #1602

Rick, it could be 110 degrees like in Phoenix, hi hi. But remember its dry heat. Seems like temps in FL are not as bad as some other parts of the country. We were working in MD a couple of weeks ago and it was in the high 90's all of the time.
