Hello 070 Club.

I just worked my first POTA QSO.  The station is KI4LLS and he is calling from the Fairy Story State Park in Virginia.  He is on 20 meters at the present time.  FYI.

Just a reminder that Stan W9SMR, and I, Bob, KC9UR, are on track to start our APE  sometime this afternoon, and continuing through Sunday morning.  We will be running two bands at a time, probably starting on 40m and 20m.  We are offering a nice certificate for all who work us on 3 or more bands.  We have antennas covering 80m - 6m, and may also try 160m if we can find room for an inverted L.  We will provide updates on this forum.  We are looking forward to working lots of you, and will do our best to get you in our log.  APE On!!!

Nope,

I'm in GA, and don't know him, and ULS has the same address QRZ has.

But did you send an email to the email address on QRZ, w4nkl@...,
and see if he responds?

Any information would be greately appreciated.

Jim - I know Keith, and he recently moved.  He now lives just down the road from me.  If you'd like to send his envelopes to me, I can make sure he gets them promptly.   I'll also let him know that he needs to change his address with the FCC.

Hi John,
As in past years, we will be using this reflector for spotting updates.  Since we are also trying to work POTA hunters this year, we will also spot ourselves on the POTA spotting site "pota.us".  Looking forward to working you.

Bob, KC9UR

Stan and Bob,

Will you be sending Ape info and spots on this reflector or the contest reflector?

Good points Steve!  I was up at 5:00 EDT this morning.  Some mornings earlier, some mornings later.  But I always turn the email on as soon as I get up - even before making coffee.  So a posting to the group will have me looking.  Trying to pay it forward for all those who helped me.

John -

Given the so-so propagation we are now experiencing, it's probably best to announce your overnight needs in advance, and solicit skeds. 0900 is 5am in ET, and there are a number of members who would have been on the air if they had known you would be there. (I usually get up at 5:40, so that wouldn't have been much earlier.)

I think each member that has accomplished 24x7 realizes that it was made possible by other hams that were the other side of 168 QSOs. So most everyone is willing to help those that follow.

Congrats, Karl!   I'm hoping to complete my 366 in March.   At least that is the goal.

The clock part may be tough.  I was  up at 0900 this morning (4 am Central time), and just checked the bands for psk.   Tried 20, 30 and 40, and nada.    That may be something to save for a few years down the road, when we get to the meat of the solar cycle!

8TH Annual KC9UR POTA Portable APE - 2020

Bob, KC9UR and Stan, W9SMR are preparing for our 8th Annual APE this coming weekend and we want to thank all for your fantastic support in the past.

As you know, we offer a custom QSL card and the much coveted APE Hunter Certificate for working us on 3 or more bands.

In our first 7 years, we have awarded the APE Hunter Certificate to 47 different individuals. Our most dedicated follower has been Jeff, W3WMU, who grabbed that award all 7 years. See the table below for those earning the award for 3 or more years.

Take special note, also, of the astounding 2016 APE when Bill, N4GBK worked us on 8 bands and Matt, AK4MK worked us on 7 bands. We can only dream of a return to propagation like that.

This year we will be setting up in a cabin at the Trine State Recreation Area (POTA K-4182) in Grid EN71.

We begin setup on Friday afternoon August 21 and expect to operate until noonish on Sunday, August 23.  We are currently planning to operate on 80m through 6m, and are considering adding an antenna for 160m.  Please let us know if you would like to try to contact us on 160m – if there are enough interested, we will add the 160m antenna and give it a go!

Rick -
The cabin we're using is somewhat primitive - i.e. no TV or internet, however we plan to do our best to try to keep everyone informed.  Our plan is to set up a cell phone hot spot for internet - if that doesn't work, we will try updating to the forum directly from the cell phone - and if that doesn't work, we will periodically go over to the ranger station (which we are told does have internet service) and post updates - if all else fails, we'll rely on club members to post spots on the forum.  We will be running two bands at a time, and are open for requests from certificate hunters to try for a quick QSO on another band.  We're looking forward to working lots of PSKers!!
