CORRECTION - Three Day Weekend 2020 Results

stan W9SMR

With my apologies, I must reissue the results for the 2020 TDW. I failed to review the TDW Rules and did not note that Bonus Stations are excluded from Top Dawg Award. So when that is taken into account, our Three Day Weekend Top Dawg is actually Tom, KD6TR, of Camano Island, WA, 5th Place overall and 4th Place finisher in Medium Power.

Corrected TDW results are given below.  The Advisory Board is continuing to review the rules for all contests. Member comments and suggestions are welcome.

Three Day Weekend results are in. A very BIG THANK YOU to David, K9DWR for your awesome efforts to again create the upload link and parse the results.

We had a great turnout with 116 logs submitted. Of these, 27 were at the time non-members. Following the Contest, 8 of them have joined us. See below for complete listing.

There were 30 logs in the High Power 100W Category.  First Place was Bonus Station, Steve, VA3TPS who lit up the ionosphere with 31,392 points. His 282 QSOs gave out 28,200 Bonus Points. He completed his 929th member QSO toward the 1,000 level LONP. In 2nd Place was William, K4REB. New Member, Bob, K4VBM pulled in 3rd Place. That took him to 88 QSOs toward his LONP.

In the Medium Power 50W Category with 53 logs, the winners were all Bonus Stations. First Place was John, KC3FL with 26,753 points. John was runner-up for the 2019 RC3 award.  In 2nd Place was Jerry, N9AVY. Jerry topped his 1,000 level LONP during the contest. In 3rd Place was Lee, N5SLY. Lee is our 2019 RC3 winner and still making fun competition for the 070 Club. Lee completed his WTW Endorsement during the Contest.  Finishing in 4th Place and qualifying as Top Dawg for TDW is Tom, KD6TR. Tom had the highest score after all the Bonus Stations. He also had the highest score from the often propagation-abused PNW. Congrats, Tom!!

The Low Power 25W Category, with 27 logs, was won by our Executive Director, Jim, K5SP. Jim took a break from his gigantic task of getting our Mailings sent and repairing the website to enjoy the PSK-31 Contest world. In 2nd Place was long time member (#25) Steve, W3HF. In 3rd place was new member Bob, N8GU. Bob joined us during the 31 Flavors Contest and finished in 4th Place there.

The QRP 5W Category had 6 entries. First Place was Steve, VA3FLF. Very respectable results with Flea-Power! Non-member John, KD2MI took 2nd Place and non-member Dwayne, K0DY took 3rd Place

Being a 72 hour long Contest required extreme effort especially by our Bonus Stations: Lee, N5SLY; Steve, VA3TPS; John, KC3FL, Jerry, N9AVY; Bob KK6KMU and Barry VA7GEM. Our heart-felt appreciation for your fantastic efforts!!

New members joining us following their participation in TDW:

Full results will be uploaded to the 070 Club and 070 Club Contest Reflectors. See Groups.io for info on viewing uploaded files: 070 Email Reflector

Our next Event is the Endorsement Daze #3 on Saturday, June 20. The focus is LONP and TRI-WARC.

Starting: 10:00 UTC on Saturday, June 20 (Saturday, June 20 at 06:00 EDT)
Ending:  03:59 UTC on Sunday, June 21 (Saturday, June 20 at 23:59 EDT)

Our next contest is the 40M Firecracker Sprint. Choose a 6 hour block between 20:00 July 4 to 20:00 July 5.

Thanks Jim,

I'm lucky...our home is on high ground (for Texas...hi hi) and I have a 40 foot tower.   I have 2 antennas.  A 5 element tri band beam for 10, 15 & 20 meters.  Right below that I have a G5RV that works well on all the bands from 6 - 80 meters.  My radio is an Icom 7300...love the radio.  I am blessed that I make as many contacts as I do as I hear others complain that they can't make many.  Just having fun here in Sherman.

Take care...73

I am not sure what your setup is, you live a little over 30 miles east of me.  You were working stations from Sherman that when I found them calling CQ did not seem to hear my signal.

Congrats to everyone who participated and to all the winners.  Great to see such a competitive event.  The last day of the event was not kind to me.  I had a hard time contacting anyone that day.  But I did do as well as I set out to do so I'm very happy.  I always set a personal goal for every event and if I achieve that I'm happy no matter how things turn out.

Have fun and 73

Awesome Field Day Opportunity – June 27/28

stan W9SMR

With all the distraction of newer and fancier digital modes, it is important for our PSK-31 community to be seen on the waterfall. As a result of precautions due to COVID-19 the ARRL has created a unique opportunity to make ourselves seen and heard.

Firstly there is the existing Field Day Participation Sticker

As an acknowledgement of your participation in the ARRL Field Day on June 27 / 28, 2020, our PODXS 070 Club offers a Field Day Participation Sticker.

Since our Awards Progress Checker has no means to check your log for Field Day participation, in order to receive your Endorsement Sticker it will be necessary for you to send an email directly to me (robinstan (at) Hotmail (dot) com) by Sunday, July 5.

Please use 2020 Field Day in the subject line.  Send me the email even if you have already uploaded your FD log and posted on the Reflector that you participated!

The body of your email needs only your Call and Member number.  Please DO NOT send or attach your log.  This is on the Honor System.  If you say you participated, you participated! - even if you were in a support role (setup/tear-down, KP duty, etc. and never actual got on air.)  I will forward the complete list to those that take care of such things and your sticker will be included in our next mailing!

Secondly, and new this year - Field Day Club Upload Sticker

As an incentive to participate as a PODXS 070 Member and upload your log to ARRL, we will offer a unique sticker thanking you for doing that. Let’s get our name out there!

The ARRL has adopted two temporary waivers to the Field Day Rules. These will create a unique opportunity for all PODXS 070 Club members to submit their logs as Club members and the ARRL will publish an aggregate score for the Club. The other waiver allows Class D (Home) stations to work all other stations, including other Class D stations. You do not need to be an ARRL member.

The temporary rule waiver for 2020 allows participants from any Class to optionally include a single club name with their submitted results following Field Day.

See an overview and full rules at: Temporary Rule Waivers - Field Day 2020

For 2020 Field Day Entry go to:  How to Submit your Club Entry

It is critical that our Club name be EXACTLY THE SAME FOR ALL ENTRIES!

When you upload your Field Day Log, the Club name must be: PODXS 070

That is, all caps, one space, numbers 070

So decide if you’ll operate from your comfortable Shack, set up on the patio or drive into the mountains, but DO IT! Then send me a notice that you participated and upload your log to ARRL

The Field Day Club Upload Sticker is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity. Grab it while you can.

You will be eligible for the FD Participation Sticker even if you do not upload to ARRL.

73,

Stan

Nothing again.  Looked at 20 and nothing there either.  The bands have died or I have a problem with both antennas!

Listened and then tried calling myself 50.290 +1500 (for the ARRL VHF contest).   Tried my horizontal wire, as well as my vertical.  Nothing heard.   Will try a bit later today.
