Actually, I make a ton of phone contacts especially in the POTA program.  Hard to find a clear frequency to use sometimes.  Good luck to whoever determines what the band plans are going to be.

the ever popular FT-x software are looking at ways to expand beyond what
are now single-channel (2.8 kHz wide) blips on the HF bands. They’ve
outgrown the current slots, and are bursting at the seams.  I can attest
to that, as the Thursday morning before the CQ WPX CW contest I was
strolling through 20 meters to check band conditions, and to my
amazement there were absolutely no CW, RTTY, or even SSB stations on the
air. Not one! What was on 20 meters? About 40 or so FT-8 stations
centered around 14.074 MHz. As I've said before: The FT-x hype is real,
as is the technological disruption of “conventional” amateur modes.

The question raised is: How to expand for FT-x, and not infringe upon
other “digital mode toes”? As a result, the ARRL Band Planning
committee has been asked to be involved in helping to coordinate the
digital spectrum beyond our initial charter, which was to mitigate and
separate wide-band and narrow-band digital into regulated FCC Part 97
allotments. The digital players are now looking at a full digital
spectrum coordination effort, a real job of herding cats if ever there
was one.

I suggested to ARRL President Roderick, K5UR that this really needs to
be a new and separate committee that contains representatives from ALL
of the major stakeholders in the digital world, ie: FT-x, FLdigi, PSK,
MFSK, RTTY, Winlink, and the myriad of other popular modes, and not just
the current committee populated with only ARRL Board members, as it does
now.  What the digital players are looking at is coming up with a
coordinated plan for the HF digital spectrum, similar to what is done
with VHF and UHF repeater coordination.  In my opinion that needs to be
accomplished with ARRL assistance and support, but not totally upon the
shoulders of the ARRL. The ARRL can be the coordinator of the effort and
publish the results, but the input and work should be burdened by the
digital stakeholders. This is still in the initial stages of discussion,
and I’ll let you know how this develops."

Re: ARRL

Leland Sly

I really don't get involved or understand all the politics of all of this.  All I know is that when I got started in ham radio I did a lot of PSK.  Then in 2017, I think, FT8 came out and most of the PSK activity went away.  A lot of the SSB and CW activity also went away.  It all switched over to FT8.  Like or not that has to be the most popular mode of operating right now.

I also think that is one of the reasons why I have done so well in the contests recently is that I really like to make a lot of PSK contacts and the only chance I get is with the 070 Club contests.

Thanks for keeping them going.  Greatly appreciated.

Yeah, it would be nice if they would be more proactive in managing this
kind of thing.  The main reason I supported them was because they are
our main lobby entity in DC, but this kind of thing is really turning
into a mess that didn't need to happen.  If I wasn't a life member, I'd
probably consider letting it lapse, too.

The question I have though, is "who is the alternative to support?"

My thanks to everyone for the kind words regarding my winning the 2019 RC3 Cup. It's nice to earn something like that while I was having a lot of fun participating in all the different contests last year. Most of the contests are perfect for me. I really like the short ones where I only have to do it for a few hours and it's over. The hard ones for me are the ones that last for days.

After several years of trial and error I've finally got Macros set up for each contest just the way I like them and that makes it so much easier. Now I just select which contest it is and I'm all ready to go. Only have to make minor changes if the rules change. Suggest everyone do the same and you'll probably make your life easier and have better results.

Have fun and good luck everyone.

In a club with FREE DUES and so many benefits litle those little stickers, an occasional "donation" for postage fund should be no biggie. Use to belong to a club where the dues were $65 a year plus about every year and a half or so, a member had to spring for beer, pop, pizza or snacks or a big meal. Also required was ARRL membership. Most clubs in these parts ask for $10-20 a year. So, PODXS is quite a value !

Great club with great people and lots of information !!!

Wow ! This looks to be a huge mailing for the club. Am sure donations to postage fund would be appreciated since every year the USPS keeps upping the ante for postage.

Give what you can even if it means going with a 6-pack of beer or a packs of smokes ! Every bit will help.

The job of actually mailing over 1,650 items has been graciously assumed by Jeff, W3WMU and Bob, KK6KMU.

Jim has received a large shipment of materials from Matt, AK4MK, and is in the process of inventorying those items. He has started printing those items and appropriate mailing labels and plans to ship the first 100 Membership packets and contest certificates himself. He then plans to ship all remaining necessary items and envelope supplies to Jeff and Bob. A fifty-fifty split on that job means each will assemble and mail over 800 items. Amazing dedication!

As this task is completed, we will have accomplished the following:

-Cleared the backlog since December 2018 of New Member Packets.

-Cleared the backlog of Top Dawg, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Certificates for all 2019 Contests.

-Cleared the backlog of all Participation Stickers and Endorsements since the last mailing in February, 2019.  A cutoff date of June 12, 2020 has been set to allow us to “Clear the Deck”.

Completion of this effort will require a large investment in envelopes and postage.
